Am I actually safe to do so through the system update in the settings menu? The firmware reads "Sys 9.2.0-20U" in the menu. I'm pretty sure Arm9 is properly installed, but FBI hasn't been initialized yet.

Don't know about default roms folder but you can bind keys, I believe it's under setting keybindings. I use up on the right stick to speed up and down to open RA menu. Don't forget to save your configuration so it stays like that for every core.
