Sure, why not?
You basically pick inquisitor, elementalist, or assassin and pick the exact same nodes in either case, just determines if you start on the left, right, or in the middle.

inquisitor means you give zero fucks about about finding resistance reduction or penetration and a shitload of bonus crit on the first hit which is what you want to do for flameblast.
elementalist probably the worst choice and either requires you to prime the spell with something else to get bonuses or wait around for retarded oscillating buff minigames
assassin also gets a big crit buff on first hit.

or you can be a pussy and pick trickster for safety like people who are good at the game.

Is there any point to the new league?

Doesn't seem to be any new skills. Old skills were only buffed in damage, which doesn't make them any more interesting, the more fun builds were nerfed to the ground, the passive tree hasn't been touched it seems.

Atlas itself doesn't look particularly interesting either.

What I could go for is a passive tree revamp to shake things up, more passive gems that augment skills (things like Chain, Inc AoE, etc), or more threshold gems that alter skills in a way that's not simply a "damage" increase, but affect the way it works mechanically.

All three feel like shit, don't use them.

All three are single target, forcing you into Melee Splash and/or Multistrike, making them shit to level with. All are elemental which means your damage is dildos compared to physical. Static Strike has shit AoE and the shitty delay crap. Wild Strike is obviously kind of random which makes it hard to find good supports and is just generally awkward. Frost Blades is worthless against the occasional boss/rare that you get stuck alone with.

Lightning Strike may be more doable for an elemental melee skill if you are looking for one, as it procs the lightning without needing to hit anything. But it does have the major downside of the lightning stopping on every fucking pebble or nook on the fucking ground.
