You could try Cannon, it's the least squishy ranged class. Can also +50 your set to get the - damage taken bonuses and facetank everything even as ranged.

How many advanced scrolls are needed to +50 one equip? So I know how much to spend.

And does defense have a use?

From 6k to 10k defense it still says takes around 520 dmg from monsters.
