Well, in typical strategy game fashion, the AI makes its choices essentially by random. The big difference is that Dominions has many more ways to do things wrong than most games while human player can efficiently exploit game systems to full effect (for example, by equipping and buffing some strong commanders, it is possible to make them invulnerable to mundane attacks and the AI can't field counters, which is like StarCraft AI not building a single unit that can shoot up and then attacking them with mutalisks). Unless you like roleplaying solo, playing against yourself or tinkering with mod nations of your own creation, the life span of single player Dominions is limited.

However, you don't start the game at master level so exploring the mechanics and learning to play, a phase I personally consider highly enjoyable in all games, lasts for a while (depending on person, let's say 10 to 30 hours) and the worldbuilding in the game is stellar and I think it's worth it just for exploring the world the authors have imagined (at its core it might be a hardcore wargame, but I think it might even have mainstream appeal in this regard, it wouldn't be the first time an indie game has become a hit for that kind of reasons).

I mostly play a fuckton of SP and it's really great. The only (and quite big) problem is the AI as many anons said, since they act mostly randomly and don't try to "counter" your strategies, so once you successfully deploy your tactic you are meatgrinder for their troops.

But again, the roleplaying and world-lore is amazing, there's a fuckton of content and playing against the AI at Impossible poses an actual challenge for the early game (but again, in mid-late with most tactics it's only a matter of time before you rape them).

It's the torn cloth of a martyr and champion of the faith, which you specifically need to wear to be considered holy to the nation. A lot of berserkers is all it take to destroy everyone UW. Well, quality sacreds may pose a threat, but your mages will kill them after doing some research. So basically EA Pelagia is the best UW nation in EA. I have won a game with it, so I know what I am talking about.

You could also make a version of it worth say 20 pearls, that you could cast on any unit, commanders included, that way you'd have to pay 4 times as much to keep your body slot open, or to give the sacred status to units without a body slot.
