I use a pretty good temperature mod so it would change a lot.

The thing that allows you to access more cooking is the Kitchen Counter, which you can craft from the Inventor's Table.. You unlock different recipes from cooking other foods or doing food related quests.
Things like stoves, campfire, and microwaves allow you to cook some simple things, like just straight up cooking normal meat.

Can't really help you with the fuel. Been so long since I had to worry about that. Just go to the moon and get some fuel. Make sure you have a EPP, which you get from the Smithy.

I'm actually shocked nobody made a Ratchet and Clank mod yet. You'd think with all the great elements Chucklefuck could maybe take some inspiration like enemy designs and weapons? There are so many god damn weapons that could be unique named and attack differently instead of 'Shadco. Sniperxl' shit. Terraria was never good. It was just the only thing for a period where it had no real competition. The gameplay is shit. The combat is shit. The building is shit. It's all kludge. They can add a billion reskins of the same few bosses or rip off as many basic ideas from other better games as they want. They can pump out as many updates and tack on as much shit as they want. They can add as hard a difficulty geared to autistics as they want. It doesn't make Terraria a good game to play. It's a time-waster, and things have emerged since that are simply better. How? Explain because to me Terraria's combat is pretty straightforward. You got 4 classes, Summoner, Caster, Warrior and Ranger with a wide variety of unique weapons, accessories and armor with special set bonuses. Also the accessories give you much needed mobility to avoid getting brutally murdered whereas Starbound's movement is slow as fucking slugs.

No. No, it isn't just eye candy. You see, Starbound actually does something where weapons have variable move sets. And so you can decide if you want to follow through for combos and reset for the sweeping swing.

And just with that, it has more variety than Terraria. Everything just feels better.

Also has better aesthetics and more potential. If the devs follow through and manage to add more to Starbound, it's not even going to be a contest. I hate the main story, but there's so much potential for the game itself if they improve on it.

You can use that mod to recruit even story characters. Since you're new you might have not come across her yet, but there is a floran girl you could hire with that mod. Technically she's also even pizza since she's 17 years old

How hard would it be to make another monster type?

We have biped, quadruped, flying and big.

I'd like to make a separate biped monster type that can be equipped with some simple specific clothing items and weapons.
My endgame would be to be able to spawn hostile humanoid creatures on tribal stage.

My impossible dream would be to add tribes with different behaviors and make it so you can interact with them just as you interact with other civs. Conquer them, annihilate them or befriend them and do quests for them.

The coding aspect would require some custom scripts at worst, copy-pasting/tweaking existing scripts at best.

The artwork for the monster would be a bit daunting, there are lots of poses for all the body parts as well as clothing, so there would be a lot of little sprites to make.

Its not out of the question, but it would take a month or so for a new modder to tackle imo. Would be a fun project and rewarding as hell.

Then there's pre-alpha stage when characters at least still had a story that prepared you for a sandbox game experience.

Absolutely not. From what I read, the Pixel Printer has a memory leak issue while the interface remains open. The tl;dr of that is, unsurprisingly, don't leave the interface open. But if it's just an executable-level memory management issue, then just restarting the game periodically, in particular after using the Pixel Printer extensively, should work around the issue.

Playing the game makes me wish they didn't do an "infinite galaxy" because that means planet's aren't meaningful. Discovering one randomly generated planet is no different than an other planet.

I'd rather there were 20-30 stars and 100-200 planets/moons, where planets had more than one "large biome". A terran planet would have some ocean, forest, jungle, desert, mountain and frozen biomes. Mars? No oxygen and 4 deserts, mountain, ice, and 4 more deserts, ice before you reach the first patch of desert.

Have some "important" planets that at have some handcrafted content, like the old Hylotl homeworld, the Avian capital world.

Human space being "safe" while there being a tentacle rape zone near earth where stars/planets there are the deadliest in the game.

Want to find Florans? Go to the floran horde zone, and the floran map blob which covers hylotl space would have florans in destroyed hylotl cities while florans in conquered human space would have florans in destroyed human colonies.

It is NOT that hard to write two witty lines of text. There was a guy who suggested something like what Chucklefish did with the pets you get from tenants; names randomly generated from a pool.

The problem with Avians, forans and Glitch is that they all use rifles n' shit.

The problem is that normally in videogames items either take a while to despawn or they despawn when you leave the zone. I was literally right ontop of these items and they were on the ground for 2 minutes tops and half of them were gone.

I'm not disagreeing with you on good game development practices, but this is Starbound we're talking about. Its their first 'released' game. They have a team of artists and no programmers.

That said,
Getting caught off guard by mechanics is normal when playing games.

Dropping tons of items on the ground at once puts you in a position to get caught off guard by things like item despawn.

Most people aren't so lazy/careless with 'valuable' items and only lose shit due to despawn from going afk.

I went full Jagged Alliance 2 and there's shit from Mausers to the Pulse Rifle from Aliens. Yes, so long as it's lit and enclosed.

They care about having a fully enclosed room with a door and a light, including background. You can use glass blocks for windows. They also care about the objects that attracted them to the room, so if you remove the human tag objects from a human tenant's room they'll be upset. Same for removing the containers from a merchant's room. So it's usually best to place the theme objects first to attract the tenant you want, then decorate.

Colonists on lush harmless worlds (tier 1) give crap (tier 1)rewards (while colonists on inconceivable dangerous magma worlds (tier 6) give great (tier 6) rewards.

Moons are considered tier 10, so they give great rewards, so long as you don't have any fuel in your inventory which spawns the fuel ghost.

Fighting through them, win or lose, you end up getting captured and brough aboard the ship. Battle ensues between you two, and, should you win, you unlock the option to have his ship repaired and used for your own. Lose, and you're captured and held captive, with your only option to try and escape.

It was better before, because there was no "story" and just vague background lore that was fun to speculate from, and you could power your ship with wood and coal to explore the cosmos just as soon as you got off the first planet; complete deforestation of habitable worlds was common place, and it was glorious. Also the original survival mechanics were somehow better than the "new and improved" system.

I have to give Chucklefuck credit for being able to update a game but never improve its actual quality. Seriously, who thought adding timed crafting to even Casual mode was a good idea?

I wouldn't mind if HOT planets, like Mercury or Venus required special equipment to visit. The effect is ruined when I see a merchant wearing a tshirt.

Mercury would be explorable in a regular space suit (tier tungsten and above armor) so long as you stayed out of the sunlight you'd be ok. Venus (hot + acid atmosphere) worlds would require durasteel and above armor to survive on the surface.

I'm a fan of mechanics that influence player behavior towards an end, rather than the hamfisted THOU MUST of the current version of Starbound. The temperature system they had needed a lot more work, totally, and wasn't terribly fun to play around, but it could have been refined into something worth while. Driving the player underground on desert planets during the day, encouraging stockpiling fuel for cold worlds, etc. Things that would drive the player to explore and interact with the world and mesh well with other systems. things that would go beyond changing

Give player more choice in how the ships are upgraded, then have the player add new areas to the ship.

Upgrades could be like "crew section" (+4 crew capacity), "fuel tanks" (+1000 fuel), engine section (-50% fuel use), "sensor suite" (1: detects all main biomes with a "best guess" to what the minor ones are, 2: as above + minor ones, best guess to dungeons, 3: as above, exact dungeon locations too. Can teleport select biomes with 1, minor with 2, dungeons with 3)

Could add more space stuff too, like "weapons module" for ship to ship combat or "cargo module" for space trucking, "shuttle bay" for a small shuttle like in that explorer pod mod which doubles as a mobile container too.
