I was debating on waiting until September when I should be finished the demo, but I'm really bad at being public about my work so until the demo is done may just turn into until the art is upgraded and so on. And yeah, I do plan on upgrading the sprites. A few of you pointed out the stiff poses, my art direction was terrible when I first started. Time will tell if I've learned anything.

I found the project really hard to talk about without spoiling anything, so I haven't really said much about the plot for now. Although, looking at other LSF threads that may not be all that uncommon.

I really need to sleep for a bit, so please don't die again.

Maybe the problem is that most characters in the anime aesthetic are already hella androgenous to begin with. Like I swear, if you compare the character models for Lightning in FF13 and Cloud in FF7 Advent Children, the only difference is the hair. So if you take a woman and try to make her look more butch she just comes out looking like a man even moreso than the male characters.

ISTR that being frustrated at this attitude was Tao's entire point in making the game, originally.

Considering how long ago the damn thing started, though, it might also have been intended as some sort of proto-genderqueer thing and not just a futa fetish. Like, an idea that characters don't have to be just male or female, or something.

I know a long time ago I had some ideas about a setting where the available sexes were male, female, and elf... the entire elven species was kind of androgynous and technically hermaphroditic, but since it wasn't a porn game the details of how elven reproduction worked would never be revealed to the player beyond characters doing the "head-tiltingly kinky" confused look.

Can't really do it now, though, it would be brushed off as some kind of SJW statement or considered offensively transphobic or both

I never really understood (and still don't understand I guess) when people say that having a lot of non-white or non-able bodied (if that's the term) characters is added diversity. Because isn't it extremely subjective? Growing up in my tiny town I only had other white friends because that was the vast majority there. My online friend lived in a bigger town, so their friend group was more diverse than mine. And since I've been to uni and other areas I've met and made friends with people who are deaf, blind, wheelchair-bound, etc. and obviously made a lot of friends who weren't just white like me. So what might've been a "weird" amount of diversity to high school me is just regular everyday to me now. So when someone says someone is pandering to diversity or adding it or whatever, doesn't that mean the game just has people that one person doesn't personally see or know? Even if the only people who end up playing that game are white, that doesn't make the fact that those people exist any less true right? So it isn't really added because it's "real" (not the literal characters obviously) features or aspects that people have IRL. I dunno, I might just be missing something.

A lot of the time when people add characters that aren't white or disabled they make a huge fuss about it. They're not adding a black guy because they just want him to be black, they add him because "it's important for representation and giving them a voice and blah blah blah." Because in this very specific case (that being BL games) you're alienating your audience by putting trans characters, so unless it's your fetish or you want to tell a story that wouldn't be possible with a cis character, you need to be aware and comfortable with that.

And it's not even a case of "well, then they need to learn to not be transphobic" because niche markets have certain characteristics that are too ingrained to change.

For example, the Black Sands guy. 99% of the times he opens his mouth it's to speak about black issues in games and how his game is so much better because it's diverse and that egyptians were actually all black, and so on. Only 1% is about the game itself.

His entire scheme is making people buy his game because it has black characters and because it won't be like "those other" vns.

Another anon pointed out that both our resident homo vn devs have brown characters, yet you don't see them bring it up as a "feature" or anything like that. The characters are brown, end of story.

90% of the characters are clones of the original cast with all the charm sucked out, and the core group that makes it to the end-game are some of the least likeable of the bunch.

The game uses one of the most garbage plot devices out there, and tries to peddle it as a twist despite drowning you in obvious hints from the beginning onward.

The villain is probably the stupidest, laziest possibility that the writer could have cooked up.

All of the best girls die by the halfway point.

Literally the only character of any worth is Komaeda.

All that said, maybe you will enjoy it more knowing what to expect.
