Even pic related is an old museum piece, you can make a very very heavy printer-bomber or a multiple phases ICBM with the size of a ship.

The best way of PvP is dogfight in small spaceships, in the same mood as old school duels, or... if someone does it, a "deathmatch map", and have some fun unrelated to factions.

also, some people dont even have a fighter or resources to do one properly.

There is an issue with some older versions.
I had a torrented version myself, after some fiasco with the HAVOK physics engine, you need to set the date before that, if not your character will get glued to a wall or something and you wont be able to move, remember that.

Actually, the best way is to send 3-4 medium-large ships each carrying a couple drone fighters using the fleet command mod. Nobody will be able to deal with stomping that much materiel without MAC guns to gut the largeships and gear to aim them.

Nobody has bothered to do it yet though so you're safe. You'd more likely be ganked by a human piloting a carrier and then he launches six drone fighters at you.

Man I really need to watch what I say. Unity is Physx, not Havok (which doesn't really matter, except we can use Physx for free and Havok has a per user fee of something like 10 dollars) , and that is fine for fps games, FTD because there isn't really many colliders per ship, and even besieged because it's not a multiplayer game, but REM is a bit more like Garrysmod than either and we can't stay with the current system. Rather, we're making a hybrid system that blends a few elements. One Physx entity per ship, thousands of individual parts on it being managed by our custom system in code. Difference is that we can multithread our code. Anything we use in unity that we don't make is not multithreaded and runs like garbage. Our new system won't be quite as wobbly as it is now, but we see that as a bonus. It will still calculate stress and structural integrity, but will use code instead of clang. Early tests have 2000 parts no problem, as opposed to the 400 Max we have now.

Spengos, in its early days, when rotors were just implemented, they were 100% rigid, and gave some good CLANG spectacles, but were the best moments, because it was buggy, but was not a jelly made rotor.

I will never get this in the physics engines, looks like some cheap nigger solution that everyone uses because its easy, or because its inside the physics engine, and you cant do anything about it.

Late gmod was fine. Garry and all the mod teams had been fucking with that implementation of havok for so long they'd figured out everything they needed to make the game work better.

Except the fucking game died, and E2 had already killed off most advanced usage of wiremod and replaced it with scripting everything instead. Nobody built mechanically scanned radars anymore. Nobody bothered to set up complicated coordinate-finding sets. You could just call the global entity list and return an entity's coordinates. Useful for some things, sure, it'd be a hell of an aid if you were trying to make a damage monitor for a ship, but nobody ever fucked with gates again. Everything got boring and stale. I remember I had an AC-130 that you could call up, and you could get air support from it by designating a target with your laser designator. It was all gates.

1: Set an object spinning and then remove the force causing it to spin. I think freely rotating objects get frozen if you get too far away or reload the world though.

2: Project your object into the dome, not a real object, but by far the easiest, safest and most reliable. Looking like a hologram may suit your situation even better.

3: Give said object power and a gyro, and set the gyro to override. Requires power unfortunately. Bonus points if you program the gyro to periodically change the orientation.

There isn't a terrible amount of function in the game yet, but you can build functional houses.
So far you can have in your house
-constructor for crafting whatever
-food processor for cooking
-fridge to store food
-farm plots
-generator to make energy for everything
-storage
-turrets to defend your shit
That's about all. There aren't many dynamic objects, but there is a hangar door that automatically opens when you approach with a vessel. Otherwise no moving parts like rotators or pistons.

The giant drill refused to connect to anything. I build it in the middle of space, connecting to nothing, and when I placed a conveyor, the serb assploded.

I am going to stick with using four regular sized drills for now.

Well yes and no. Sort of. Imagine the physics system is a bit like glass. Make it rigid and perfect without wobbling ever, and it will shatter. Make it pretty damn wobbly in places where it could be deemed acceptable and suddenly you have rubber. Its not perfect, and not what everyone wanted, but it functions. Its also not something we can change or fix without being able to go into Unity's AND Physx's source code, specifically the plugin that Unity is using to implement physics.

Technically speaking, we can remove the jello, but it would just be a clang bomb the moment any force at all was applied to it.

So we're just tossing out using Physx as the main physical calculation of REM and using it only for the translation of the whole ship, which is to say moving the damn thing around. For collisions we're going to be using our own code in scripts to hold it together, calculating exactly where the force goes, how it goes there, specific density of things and which parts are weakest to stress. It won't wobble because it not only doesn't need to, but to a certain extent, cannot wobble. The force is removed entirely at the end of the calculation, because it was only simple numerical values derived from the numerical value of the force applied to it, as opposed to a physics engine. We can permanently absorb force with no wobble.

Physics engines are always retardedly difficult to make perfect, like this anon mentions.

The wizard would need to use a different base count than base ten, and probably use some sort of machine code on top of that (hexadecimal reference to specific bits of memory on hardware to run shit faster, which was extremely common in the Commodore 64 days), like the shader system in quake (I think), where some intern did some black magic to make the lighting run far and ahead of the graphics API of the time.

If i could i would ask the resident tripfag to pass FtD code, turn it into a "mod" of sort that takes the "unification/simplification" thing and run it to it's (il)logical conclusion (engines come in 1m^3, 3m^3 and 5m^3 sizes, with simple sliders, ammo is removed, uses resources, cram and aps unified into a even simpler old custom cannon, universal propulsion, remove the "fancy" block shapes, only 3 materials for building, etc) but also includes some nice bugfixes that make the game better (aps magazine detonation not erasing half of the ship for example).

I have literally no idea what it could be. I've changed motherboards and GPU since then, CPU and RAM are the same. 16gb. Just got back from running memtest and it's clean. No other memory-heavy games give me the slightest bit of an issue, this is the only one.

I checked the log file, and spawning a cargoship was the last thing it did. Nothing notable otherwise. I'm going to mess around with that and see if I get any results.

remember you can directly insert items from any building to any other building, or even to/from a vehicle. "wires on belts" is a factorio meme that makes veteran players cry out in pain.

also remember that belts have limits on how many items you can send out on it, and that the *faster belts are impossible to grab from by the slower inserters*
for example, the only way a burner inserter could possibly grab from an express belt is if the express belt has been completely filled and backed up.

try and use the right inserter for the job, too. if your production is making an item that takes longer than 1 second or so, just use a regular inserter and not a fast one - this saves on the energy cost. the green science fast inserter that's taking out from that factory isn't really necessary in this case.

The decimal adder thing works fine, but I want to be able to enter numbers using "punched cards", which are just thin boxes with larger boxes stuck on them. The collision groups of each box forms a 4 bit number is inputted into the little rod-logic box on the bottom right which determines what number to add to each counter.
Problem is, it's a bit too processor heavy to have one of those for each of the adders (5 x the rods/springs/cams). What I think I'm going to do is stick with the one logic-box and iterate through the counter wheels one at a time. This'll be 5x slower but eh, it'll look cool and be more efficient.

I think the actual ghosting was taken as the last option, most of the times you are forced to some alerts, you just cant sometimes.
Now, back then, remember everything was fast paced, the main idea was to use those yellow alerts to distract anyone, a broadhead into a wall of stone will make a more silent and cheaper noisemaker, this is not possible in deadly shadows because the same story in multiplats.
But you disable-kill or distract-avoid in those games, and... if that pic is you playing, do it on expert, you will miss some story and a gf.

why, factorios combat is pretty terrible.
factorio does the make-a-factory-to-produce-stuff thing well, and that's why it's fun. The other aspects of the game are fairly simple(enemies, weapons etc.)
weapons for example is assault rifle->tank->modular armor with the laser turret somewhere inbetween for defense
gun turrets are usually not needed and can be simply skipped.

You deal with physics, so you need to increase the surface area when the wobble happens. The more links are in the hinge the better, its harder to do it with pistons.

ill have to give it a go again now to just to compare percentage of CLANGing, but on the rotor end will be the positive results, the shit with pistons are that you can't re-attach the head, just put a new one, that fuck ups the lock-unlock mechanism. with rotors alone, you can do that sort of shit, but rotors cant stand too much weight, when you mix them and mutiply them to make them stronger, then the blocks itselfs end up being the problem because they collape on its own weight.

aside from being useless compared to wheels, weight is also why walkers failed and still fail. even carbon block mods arent enought to be as light as needed to rotors be able to control it, and to not explode to pieces because of the inertia of rotors on pistons on more shit.

That might be it. SSD page file sizes are like 1/10 of typical HDD size, since even crappiest SSD runs 4 times as fast, has no spin up, read delay etc. Hosently if you're not rocking an SSD in 2016 you should re-evaluate your entire life.

That's an old meme that I thought had died. Writecycle limit was a concern in 2007-2009 and I doubt anyone even bought those drives much less still uses them.

I can check my S.M.A.R.T. right now on a 512 GB Vertex 4 I bought in 2012 and I know the drive is still at 100% health.

Right NOW done we have the damage code, many types of ammunition, AI target leading + inaccuracy, Armor weight, thickness, penetration,effective thickness/normalization, basic effects for some ammo types, and kill states for destroyed modules ready for the next update.

We're just finishing up the models for the fixed mounts, and implementing the many smaller and one larger weapons. Here's a webm of a semi-implemented turret that you can change the gun to whatever the fuck you like, provided its not too big for the mount. You can also change the thickness of the armor around the mount.

My problem with the current guns/barrels is that for something so long it moves so quickly that it just looks visually a little weird. Along with that, the base of the guns seems really small/lacking in girth compared to the size of the barrel.
