How does the damage scaling in KoF works? Is it different from each game or is it more or less the same in the entire series (or for the most part)?

I tried doing this bunch of variation of the same Kyo's BNB in KoFXIV and the results were quite weird to me:

1) cr.lk, cr.lp xx lk double kicks into command grab = 225 damage
2) same combo but adding the df.mk after the cr.lp = 242 damage (okay there);
3) same combo as (2) but using the mk version of the double kicks = 221 damage (???)

I will say that Alex's jab anti-air is garbage against Ryu's jumping kick buttons due to how his hurtbox is basically nonexistent so if they're jumping in on you and you're failing to anti-air with jab, use crouching heavy punch or Air Knee Smash as those will generally beat out all his dumb jumping buttons. Other than that, make your hits count, bait DPs and punish

Yes, permanent "super saiyan" whatever that means makes it so Necalli can't use his v-reversal for the rest of the round, so while it gets his aggressive game up a notch or two he lacks any decent defensive options and that's why you literally never see any pro go into "super saiyan" as soon as their 3 bars are full but they wait for a good offensive opportunity to transform into it and wait on 3 bars so they can v-reversal if needed. By going into v-trigger as soon as possible with Necalli you're taking away your v-reversal one of your few defensive tools. It's a tradeoff. v-trigger necalli isn't always superior to regular necalli because of this.

this game really is not beginner friendly, you need to know the frame data and memorize the chains on everything to even know whwn to push buttons and it feels like half the strings have a random overhead in and the other half have a random low and there's no real way to tell until you've memorized all of them and you can't really play a basic game of poking and shit, you need your combos to do any damage and every character has his own specific ones, no "universal bnbs"

It's not about the higher level. SF is much easier at the basics. 90% of overheads are either slow, lead to no damage or both. You don't need to memorize any strings either, just your normals and normal xx special can be a pretty good punish. In MKX you need to know arbitrary strings, need to look out for highs and lows at any given point, and can't play a basic poking game because you need your strings and combos (even if not fully optimal) to be even able to compete.

It's not about high level, it's about the basic knowledge to be able to play.

The game functions with a 3d system of low/mid/high and overhead. Highs whiff on crouchers while mids hit them, and overheads of course open them up.

It's actually character dependent (cr.lp, cr.lk, cr.hk), but cr.jab is what you want. Keep in mind that cr.hk isn't a sweep. Jabs also give you plus frames on hit so it's definitely your turn.
