/ddg/ what's the best looking set in the PC version to use that looks Paladin-ish? I'm super bummed they removed the White Eagle chest since that was my go-to and I really don't like the scales that are on Gryphic Armor. You have to stay mobile and keep aware of what enemies are doing. Part of it is having a good team of pawns that won't crumple when push comes to shove to keep some of the enemies off you, but you can't expect a tank to keep an entire group's attention in this. You have to maintain the right distance from your foes, then close in for the kill when they make a mistake.

If the issue is that you're getting surrounded not because you aren't keeping appropriate distance, but because your targets take too long to kill, then you probably need better equipment.

Thanks for the advice, at least I'm not getting my shit pushed in as much. I think I overextended myself into the western part of the map or something. also sheltered stab takes more stamina than I thought when used in succession but it's still highly useful. Love that the combat actually draws from real world techniques - this game is basically all I've ever wanted since I first played an elder scrolls title.

Do bandits scale with your level or something? I hardly had difficulty when I was entering the area, and that was with some borderline useless pawns.

Also; I got into BBI as a ranger/assassin, then got kinda burned out at around the beholder dude, so I was considering starting again as a magick class. Which is the most fun, in your opinion? I know you should play as a sorcerer for a bit anyways for the stat growth and augments, but I remember the creators of the game also said they thought magick archer was the most fun class and everyone should try it out. I was thinking of trying all of this out in hardmode, too.

Enemies don't scale, bandits are simply much tougher than most of what you'll have faced by the time you encounter them. The group that you'll find on the way out west towards the witchwood can be especially tough, though there's a secret way to avoid them--they're only around during the day. At night, that group of bandits is replaced by wolves, which are significantly easier to handle.

As far as most people are aware, Arisen is simply sort of a title for the one who's supposed to defeat the dragon--the nature of that battle and the relationship between him and the dragon are unknown to most. The fact that Arisens have a special ability to direct pawns is also fairly well known.

The title goes back into pre-history, and is even recorded in the religious texts of "the faith"--a sort of savior figure that crops up every three or four generations--maybe more, maybe less, in certain circumstances.

As for everyone recognizing you as the Arisen immediately, your name and description spread pretty quickly after "chasing off" the dragon, "defeating" the hydra, and taking command of the pawns. The fact that you'll typically be traveling with pawns in tow is another easy tell that you're the Arisen.

You're still right tho. By hiting a flying drake or wyvern's tail with a normal jumping attack, you can pretty much stagger it to the ground. and since you'll most likely never hit the wings, they get in a weird chain of flying -> drop -> fly again.

What are the best skills for assassin?

Escort characters don't follow a set path, they just follow you around similar to how pawns do (exception: Symone's escort quest within the city, which works completely differently).

If you're having trouble escorting people through that path safely, there's a safe path after the first two groups of bandits. Pick up the escort, drop him over the side of the cliff just past where the woods stop, and follow him down. Tack a path with a decent berth between the trail (where the bandits are) and the woods (where the saurians and occasionally a chimera are). You should be pretty close to a ledge the whole time. You might attract a few saurians on this path, but just hang back and let your pawns do the work--your escort will stay near you.

If you keep going in that direction, you'll hit a series of small cliffs. You should be able to see the river crossing from that position. Drop the escort down each one in turn, and take out the saurians at the crossing as carefully as you feel you need to--you can get their attention one or two at a time if you advance slowly enough, especially if you or a pawn has ranged attacks.

From there, you can either follow the path west and then north (you may run into a chimera, but it seems to have a wide enough range that it isn't always close enough to notice you); or you can take the second southerly fork until it peters out, and then head southwest past the tomb of the unknown traveler (there's a nasty fight there if you get too close) to take out some goblins manning a ballista. You can use the ballista to soften up the cyclopes that'll be to the north, and then let your pawns deal with them as they approach; just keep the escort away from them.

After that the worst thing you'll find heading north is hobgoblins, until you reach an open field full of goblins and hobgoblins--this will be north of a spring in the woods.

Head back east from that field until you intersect with the path again (which is where you'll have been going if you chanced meeting the chimera), and follow it north. There's a cyclops and some goblins near the path; you should be able to pass by, but if they notice you just sprint north, you'll be very close to a safe camp.

From there head north past the lake, and then travel west once you've gotten north of it. You'll meet more goblins and saurians along the way, but just be mindful of your escort (you can always pick him up and run if things get hairy) and you'll reach the shadow fort safely.

This is what escort quests are still like if you start taking them on before you get portcrystals. I know that route by heart because I ended up getting Adaro's escort in my first playthrough before I even got to Gran Soren. I didn't know about the path through the ancient quarry (and he would have died to the ogres even if I had), and had to pick my way through the countryside saving frequently and going around every obstacle that killed him on the way.

That kind of adventure is what defines the early game for me, though.

Can you prevent pawns getting "bodybagged" by rehiring them again, before resting anywhere?

It gets tedious having to reload the game every time Death appears out of nowhere and kills my hired pawns, and I hate to send them back with nothing but 3 star ratings on everything

What all am I missing by not having online?

Also reading through the pastebins, but are there any specific class or pawn related wisdom you'd wish to impart? I'm rather open to classes, although I prefer warrior or magic over sneaky rogue archer, but I do enjoy all 3.

I'm around level 93 or so and those two Condemned Gorecyclopes in the Forgotten Hall are fucking my shit up. I don't want to cheese with Periapts, should I simply fight them later? Haven't beaten Daimon yet.
