Retribution!
post sexy spaceships, anons
How do I get gud at piloting in SC? I have an Avenger, loaner Hornet, and loaner Constellation. Most of my dogfights are reduced to me strafing in a circle around my target shooting them from a distance until they decide to come straight towards me and I usually get rammed to death or can't get away from them. I feel like there is a whole other realm of movement I'm missing out on that would help me evade and escape someone who is chasing me. Also what range should you try to be to your target to land good hits?
>>152370612
Sexiest.

Well shit, now I want this to happen.
I'm not sure why OP decided to merge these two games into one thread. I hope Star Citizen will be nothing like elite Dangerous.

>>152370790
Thank you would be nice for starters
>>152370686
I wish I could help you, but I have the same issue. Murdering the AI is easy though.
Using the rudder a lot recently though.
I had a blast in PTU by engaging the fastest speed mode and and dancing around whatever tried to follow me in the 300i, issue is because of shields these kind of boom & zoom attacks aren't all that effective.
>>152370868
>>152370990
This. Why care about a game built on lies. It's also ugly and you could tell it was doomed years ago.
>>152370790
So do people from /edg/. Our threads die without one another, we are best buds now.

It's a shit general for an even shitier game, even shitier than elite.
It's no surprise it failed.
>>152370686
>>152371041
>>152371148
Yeah, you guys need the download on what's the latest meta meme build for pvp, there's always some broken overpowered weapon loadout. I would help you out but I don't follow that shit when there's basically nothing to be gained from engaging in it.
>>152371182
shame it's fucking shiiiiiiit
seriously why even own one?
>>152371148
I purchased 2 S2 gimbal mounts for my avenger and put Tempest II missiles on the rack. What would you suggest for a loadout?
>>152371308
Elite is addicting but I hope they go through with the quality of life changes.
>>152371363
I'm waiting for betaPU. There's too many issues currently and 20GB patches are horrible.
>>152371293
w-why's there a Rathalos in the picture?
>>152371293
i'm pretty sure even a sidewinder would absolutely wreck a full grown dragon
>can fuel scoop hydrogen out of the corona of a fucking star
>can equip railguns
>>152371148
Got a suggestion for the 300i? The standard wing lasers seem to pack quite a punch outside overheating easily.
The massdriver feels meh though due to the long reloading time. Tried the Panther repeater now with the free ships, as a sort of fast firing "light" gun to use when the wing lasers need to cool, but I'm not impressed by it. It hardly seems to do anything.
>>152371108
>>152371231
If it was that bad then they should just have died. It's not like there were any SC new in a while. I just don't get why ED would need it if the game was worth a general since it has been out in a while.
But hey, if it works for you guys then I'll stop judging and you answered my question.
>>152371460
I would play a space sim version of monhun...

>>152371617
I think sometime in 2013 when the game was first revealed I had a wish in me that NMS would have giant space creatures you could encounter.
>>152371713
my premise assumed the fight happened in an atmosphere
>sidewinder build to withstand extreme heat and armored against kinetic attacks
>dragon not built for impacts by a multi ton flying object going mach 1.8 and railgun rounds going mach 14
I have the urge to put 4 Mantis GT-220 on a freelancer, is this a waist of rec?
Knowing that the idea is stupid is there any gun that is worth replacing the Tarantula GT-870 Mk3s with on the freelancer with?
>>152371404
Speed is everything, you can't hit something you can't track unless you're literally sitting in place spinning your ship in which situation you will be fucking shredded, and it has a good amount of firepower, maybe could do with a little more, hopefully you can customize/mod it with more weapon hardpoints in the final game or whatever.
A ship that fast and light with two heavy BRRRT size 3 weapons that do a shit ton of damage at close range can't not be a good combination if they balance it properly.

>>152371617
Land on death-world class planets with friends and kill gigantic creatures with ridiculously large melee weapons in order to harvest their bodies for even crazier weapons and armor? Sign me the fuck up.
>>152371917
Shouldn't the Rathalos be able to easily land onto it and start ripping off its hull? A sidewinder will fall apart if it hits something while traveling slightly too quickly.

>>152373864
ahahah what the fuck
>>152373767
Steam early access usually connotates a mostly working full game. This is an alpha alpha, like what most companies only do internally these days. Massive overhauls are a regular occurance, most of the game isn't in, including major core features, everything is subject to change, and things not working is par for the course. The whole point is actual bug finding and stress testing. It's a test bed, not a demo.

This is not a 'test bed' that's what the PTU is for. Star Citizen, as it stands now, is an early access game that is being added too.

It looked like it went faster going in reverse, rather going forward...
>>152378942
They are afraid that that their game will die once most got their ships and people see that this game has nothing going on except getting better and better ships.
>>152379372
Its in Precision flight mode, all ships go that slow.
>About 2 months ago I read here (I thought on the 300 discussion) that the 300 series wouldn't replace these models with a new ship (i.e.Freelancer or Hornet rework); instead that they were (at least toying with the idea) going to bring out "this years model" of the 300 line. In other words, people with existing 300 series keep them and they are now considered classic cars.
I hope this guy is wrong.
>>152379372
40m/s when its in space because its always in Precision mode.
40m/s on the ground because its in ground mode, to avoid you going SANIC probably.
>>152379475
to be fair, over the years fdev have added a lot of things to doto grind for better ships
hopefully they will flesh out the different things they have in place more nowbut we all know everyone who isn't an apologist dad is basically playing while waiting for star citizen at this point
>>152379720
It would be already neat if the game added a small economy aspect to the game like paying money to send colonists to some deep space star system you surveyed to build a refinery etc. to mine for your (kinda like games like Anno but just in a much smaller scale)
Small things like that would make the game more enjoyable. I hope Star Citizen doesn't blunder (probably will though)
>>152379720
I'm surprised the dads didn't hop on the NMS band wagon. It's pretty much ED lite just with pastel colors and animals
>Same amount of grind
>Same concept of pointless "sandbox" gameplay with no real goalMaybe they bought it for their wive's sons
So does anyone else, that isn't a close follower of the game, want Star Citizen to succeed?
It's really odd to me that so many people seem emotionally invested in seeing it fail.
So far I've been pretty impressed with the progress, particularly the 3.0 demo.

Personally, I could take it going either way.
If it succeeds, then it might be one of the greatest games ever made and the bar gets raised, devs will shoot for the stars from that point on.
If it fails, the idea of crowd-sourcing takes a massive hit and maybe we stop wildly throwing unregulated money at pipe-dreams and get better quality control and more grounded developers.

There's no purpose in spending time arguing with them. The people from /v/, orgposters, smarties, etc. Regardless of what they say and want to believe, the progress for this game continues. I guarantee you with 100% accuracy that all of the shitposters who have adequate PCs will buy and play SC eventually. >E:D is actually one of the more successful ones.
It is, I have issues with E:D though that keep me from getting really hooked on it.
The scale of the galaxy is incredible, but after awhile you realize it's a lot of the same things. It lacks the certain charm of designed of smaller more crafted game maps like pic related.
Another issue I have is with the philosophy of the E:D developers. They seem to want to make my experience in the game to be a second job. I'm not interested in endless grinding just because it's realistic or something.

Pic related is an example of devs compromising the dream for something that is easier to develop. A valid approach if you want to get shit done I suppose.
The Elite series is the only one that consistently sticks to the insanely huge scope and still manages to be halfway decent games.
>>152381356
The entire 2.X series of updates are off by 4 or 5 months at this point. From an old backer who watched development from Jan 2014, never ever count on their dates. Add large amounts of extra time every single moment they make an estimate. Don't believe them until it's in our hands.
>>152381108
When they promise an end of year update then they deliver an end of year update, even if it is a PTU-only bugfest on December 19th.
From PTU to live is normally only a week or two, so I'd expect 3.0 to be live by mid January at the latest.
>>152380972
Unfortunately some shitposters seem to have an effect on many people who have no knowledge of the game
>Saw a post in which someone thought the game had dried up funding and was dead
>Was surprised it was still alive and asking how to pre order
Anyone else realize how ingenius CIG is with developing AC/SM as a "game-within-a-game"? It provides a way to pass the time in a genre that has proven (with E:D and NMS) that you can't play a massive universe space sim without a lot of downtime.
>Traveling from to the outer edge of a star system at the relatively slow pace of 0.2c? Play a round of Arena Commander.
>Waiting for the cargo to be loaded onto your ship in a excruciatingly slow manual process because "fidelity"? Play a few rounds of Star Marine.
>Trying to finish a lap on a race course in an Aurora? Fuck that, you can just use your virtual 350r to experience what it's like to not be poor and finish a race in the time it takes for your Aurora to get to the next ring.
It seems like such an obvious solution to downtime in sim games I'm surprised no one has thought of it before.
>>152382593
>When they promise an end of year update then they deliver an end of year update
found the newfag. I don't want to waste my time explaining missed their promised release schedules, but know that they're never met/early. Considering their track record, you're going to be disappointed. I could be wrong (hopefully I am t bh) but over the last few years adding time to release dates has proven effective.
>>152382663
Their opinions still don't matter. The community is 1.5mil strong with around 120mil in pure crowdfunding, which isn't stopping anytime soon. When the game finally becomes more fun than it is testing, the shtiposters will either: pointlessly continue, in which they're left out of the fun that SC will be, or they get their game package and join us. We have enough people to populate the game (+ the advanced AI) and we have enough money to complete the game, and both of those numbers will increase with time as they already have/ are. Let them be salty all they want. Like I said earlier, the progress continues with or without them, so I really don't give a damn what they think, and neither should anyone else since their angry rants change nothing.

E:D has many star systems, but they're all mostly the same in how you interact them. Of course they're quite beautiful and expansive in scale and quantity, but they always have the same features.
Crafted universes like in E&B or other games can have more unique features like in your typical fantasy setting. The way you travel through the game universe also shapes your perception of it too.
Earth & Beyond for example had several ways of traversing the galaxy. Each class had a sector with gates only members of that class could use that led from moons in Sol to far ends of the galaxy (seen on this map).
If you had good reputations with the pirates you could use their faction-locked gates to enter their secret sector which counted four distant ends of the galaxy.
One class had a unique wormhole skill that let them teleport to any of 6 destinations no matter where they were at the time. A popular activity was for members of this class to sell Wormhole trips from Saturn to Valkyrie Twins and vice versa. It's because this was part of a popular trade route. I did it myself.
So yes while the universe was much smaller its size also meant it also had more charm and never felt empty.

I really want player piracy to be a thing, for groups to join up and decide that the best way to make money is to attack other players, because them doing that can stimulate all manner of other things in the game. Hiring security groups, making certain places more difficult, and thus more profitable, to go through for goods, making the game a little more dynamic in that you don't really know if someone is going to double cross you or not.

>>152395595
We are going to wait for a few things to make piracy in SC viable as an actual career rather than just shooting ships indiscriminately like we do now.
1: actual cargo with missions for that cargo
2: a way to stop ships without exploding them
3: a place to sell the stolen goods
4: group mechanics/larger playercount with some basic AI (so it's not fucking empty)
4.5: good netcode so that it's not a hassle.
Without these, piracy is simply just killing other ships. If CIG is to be believed, we should have most of these within the next 4 - 6 months or so.

All they need to do is change the turret to a SH-style remote one and make the gunner a copilot with turret control, torpedo control and some shield/power control.

That presents a interesting problem, weather you disable a ship with your regular pew pew or LTL ones a dead in the water ship will still maintain is momentum, making it unbordable.
The way I see it is we will also need either electronic warfare, to tell the ship to stop or tractor beams.

Earn money to buy better ships is always the main goal. Grinding naval ranks and pilots' federation ranks are also available in the base game. Outside of that, you kind of have to make your own """""fun""""".
Right now Horizons only adds planetary landings and associated gameplay, and, more importantly, the Engineers, which allow you to craft upgrades for your weapons and modules. The next update for Horizons, coming mid-October, is introducing passenger gameplay, a couple new ships, ship-launched fighters, and the beginnings of an alien invasion, as well as some various QoL upgrades.
Next update after that is multiplayer crewing of ships and player avatar creation.
The game isn't as bad as people like to meme, there's plenty of shit to do, especially if you join a PvP, BGS, or Powerplay player group.
how long till they put in two systems and jump points? Or even jump points inside a system to test.
seems pretty ez to make, looks really cool, and would be a fun reason to use a racing ship in the PU

wait, you don't get access to the engineers unless you get horizons?
the npcs that let you directly upgrade your shit and potentially double your effectiveness in combat, trading or exploration? unless you pay cash dollar?and they call star citizen pay to win
Shouldnt the cost of moving a ship be based on its FSD range, and not its mass?

The most populated systems are always going to be noob space, CG systems, and powerplay HQs. There's a few others, like Sothis, which are popular due to the availability of high-paying systems.

It is p2w, but no one whines about it because PvP barely exists in ED. There's no in-game incentive to PvP whatsoever, the game actively discourages it by sending an infinite army of elite bounty hunters after you.
>>152409780
I hope to see it in sq42 at the very least filling it's unique niche, but in the PU it would still encourage unique gameplay in the form of running the fuck away while the turrets try and defend your ass. it'd make great scenarios for all involved; how often do you actually get to chase/be chased in this game? most people just turn around and try their luck, but the redeemer know it will die and has to keep jivin'.

>>152409243
Naval ranks come from the Federations and Empire. You unlock system permits and ships by gaining ranks in their navies. Grinding rank comes from doing missions for Fed/Emp minor factions. Look for minor factions on mission boards with the little circle star symbol for the Federation, and the little eagle for the Empire.
Pilots federation ranks are you combat, trade, and exploration ranks. You grow in those by performing the associated actions. Kills get you combat rank, money from trading/smuggling/trade missions gets you trade rank, and selling system scan data gets you exploration rank. I think exploring planet surfaces in your moon buggy gets you some exploration rank, too.
>>152410356
the entire ship was designed around having to keep it's front pointed at the enemy and being rewarded for actually doing so
assuming the 4horse guys are actually QRY members, they probably designed it around the shortcomings of the liberator in Planetside 2 when it came to supporting the single seaters (can't get both the gunner and pilot guns on target), and now it's designed around being heavy support for a squad of fighters.

2nd job simulator*
You don't boot up Star Citizen to have fun, you do it to grind UEC to buy a ship, and then grind UEC to insure it, and keep buying all the weapons you lose, every single time you die.
Got to have those gold sinks, remember.
t. person who decided that games needed to have grinding in them or else no one will play games for fun
Where as, people who boot up other games, play them to have fun. For example, people who play Call of Duty don't play it to grind temporary currency to buy and insure weapons or costumes. Decent and competent developers like Infinity Ward have the foresight and decency to actually allow players to keep what they earn or unlock, without needing gold sinks or rental or paywalls.
I think that's the difference between the mindset of video game enthusiasts vs. people who want something pretty (like Cryengine assets) to look at, and to force other people to do mundane things because they decided that's how it has to be. For example "Real people shit, so my game has shitting and toilets in our space ships", and "some people buy insurance in real life, so people will be forced to buy insurance in Star Citizen".

Also if you get interdicted just don't fight it, your FSD charges back up faster. As soon as you leave supercruise just disable FA, boost straight away from your attacker, hit the FSD button, and bam your gone before they can even lower your shields.

I wish they would stop it with manned turrets already in SC. They are massive protruding pods on ships that cause designs to look ugly and require a lot more space to be used on accessibility. There is no reason whatsoever that they couldn't have gone with remote controlled turrets that can be accessed from one of the many stations on any turret featured ship.
Please CIG just redo all the ships with turrets so that there is less protrusion and so that those extra stations can actually manned by someone doing something useful.

>>152422004
>turret mount and 2 S2 guns
>1 + 2x2
This is how turrets work. The type of mount + the gun sizes it holds equals the size of turret. Manned also adds 1. So an unmanned turret with 2 S1 guns would be S3 turret. S5 turret is an unmanned turret with S2 guns.
It's a non-combat focused ship, so expect to die when someone finds you and wants to pew pew. I doubt the armor and shields is enough.

>No, most turrets will stay as they are. You can't mount an S12 gun on the SF turret mount in place of the turret itself when it's an S12 turret mount. Only special cases like the Cutlass or Hornet can get a gun there.
You're going to be able to buy turrets with differing slots for guns/components, anon. We've been told this multiple times. If you want a lower profile remote control version there probably will be one for any given size. Wasn't talking about replacing them with fixed mounts.

A S5 mount could hold dual gimbaled S3s. Dual gimbaled S2s would only need a S4 hardpoint.
>>152423327
m8, you might as well forget about SC for another 2 or 3 years. We have quite a while to go yet. They're making lots of progress, but there's still a lot to do.
>>152423607
That's what I've been doing for the past six months. Haven't looked into any SC stuff until I saw some articles on the gamescom demo.
I'm watching it right now as roberts talks about
>Fully physicalized worlds
>Can visit any place on the planets
muh dick
I'm gonna watch this full demo then forget about SC so it'll hurt less if it crashes and burns.
>>152421638
as I recall they made this buildout in some other program or something because when they actually put it in engine the entire interior was way off scale
>>152423785
that's the way to do it m8. dont worry about ship sales and whatnot, it's all available with in-game money
>>152423854
they have a video of it in the hangar. that may have been a problem at some point, but it doesnt appear to be now. doesnt matter though, we wont be seeing it for years, if at all
>>152422743
because it's a space game and you don't actually need to roll+pitch to turn since you're not dealing with wind and aerodynamics?
>>152423785
It won't crash and burn, but the thing is getting burned out waiting. Starting tomorrow I'm gonna tried to forget as well. It's the easiest way.
>>152423382
Will this work for turrets as well? If the SF turret has 2 S5 guns, can it hold 4 S4 guns (2 guns on each side)?
>>152424057
A space fighters certainly would, so that one could pull maximum gs at the best possible axis. negative and sideways gs are a lot worse than positive gs
>>152424225
>Sideways Gs are a lot worse than positive Gs
U WOT M8
>>152422152
HAHAHA.... half the people on the forums would rather see every ship crippled just to make manned turrets work than admit they're a stupid idea that didn't even work in real life.
Same way they think have a separate person managing shields and power will somehow make a difference in a fight and not be the worst bitch job possible on a multi-crew ship.
>>152422743
I believe that was actually part of the recent control changes, it used to be normal. you can switch it and it shouldn't be a problem. roll and pitch is more fun than yaw anyway and yes, you can take more vertical Gs than lateral in game.
>>152424225
If they have the tech to have artificial gravity in small ships couldn't they also use that same tech to suppress g forces?
>>152424342
>Ships and computers capable of FTL
>Requires human to pilot a gigantic bubble turret
>>152424342
>Didn't even work in real life
Turrets worked fine in real life because whatever they were on weren't rolling around at the speed of sound while tossing and tumbling at the same time.
To have them work properly in SC would require ships they are on to essentially turn into WW2 bombers. Because a gunner is useless if he can't even aim at what he wants to to hit thanks to how the ship/plane is flying.
>>152424224
I think they may have mentioned something similar for turrets ages ago, but I'm not sure. Wouldn't really make turret gameplay better anyway.
>>152424721
the lore is that they can only compensate so much.
I wonder, has anyone just stood there behind the pilot in a constellation or avenger or something while the pilot is pulling extreme Gs? I bet the blackout effects only affect the pilot.
>>152424342
What I think will end up happening it the final game is that no captain will let anybody but the NPC man the turrets, the computer has a far better chance to at least use the turret to make an assist other wise they will be ignored when possible.
>>152424770
>Turrets worked fine in real life
Then why did pretty much every military and aircraft manufacturer in the world completely abandon the manned turret concept?
They're fine on boats. Utter shit on planes
>>152424884
>I bet the blackout effects only affect the pilot.
And you'd be correct
>>152424973
>They're fine on boats. Utter shit on planes
hopefully they're useful on capital ships
>>152424973
>abandon the manned turret concept
Because there are safer alternatives to sticking your guy in a giant glass dome, like remote operated turrets. What kind of silly point are you trying to make with this? WW2 turrets worked, fundamentally. SC turrets don't.

>>152422630
>>152422638
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I AM 5200 LIGHT YEARS OUT FUCK YOU PALIN
>>152425090
5200 out from where? It's relative to where you started the game. eg: LHS 3447
>>152424770
I hope you realize by the end of WW2, bombers like the B-29 had assisted turrets. By the B-52 they were nearly all automated and didn't require a person to fucking sit in a bubble to use the guns.
SC has managed to go back in time for its ship technology.
>>152425131
that guy is in quantum though
>>152425220
This is why I didn't bother with engineers. I have no interest in grinding just to grind some more. Frontier and their dads are beyond delusional at this point.
>>152425336
Stupid frog poster, I mentioned remote operated turrets several posts down. But you don't seem to get the goddamn point either.
>>152424770
>Turrets worked fine in real life because whatever they were on weren't rolling around at the speed of sound while tossing and tumbling at the same time.
You are right but to continue the WW2 bomber analogy those guy manning turrets in bomber had some of the shorts air force life expectancy there was.
The turrets could shoot oncoming fighter effectively but at the cost of turning into pinatas of glass and blood at about the same rate.
>>152425195
they will be.
the good new for smaller ships is that you can have AI man your turrets. they will probly be better at it than a human.
>>152424973
Because trying to hit a Bf109 is an entirely different prospect than trying to hit a F4 Phantom that doesn't even have to be in gun range to hit you with missiles.
Manned turrets on modern planes would not function due to the distances and speeds involved. Computer operated turrets could, but would effectively be anti missile weapons rather than anti aircraft weapons.
Star citizen is effectively WW2 in space, but its designs could be improved by shifting the man in the turrets, to a man in a turret control room. This enables events where a boarding team could compromise the turret control room, or a bomber could effectively "target their weapons."
>>152425448
All of the ship turrets should be automated, there is no reason a human should be using them. A person could in no way track a ship in space moving at the speeds they are going at in SC. But "muh WW2 in space"

>>152425636
>A person could in no way track a ship in space moving at the speeds they are going at in SC.
Literally what?
This may be a space game, but speed outside of quantum drive is on average equivalent to WW2 propeller aircraft, some ships being slower, others being slightly faster.
>>152424812
>>152425659
Wow, that is bizarre. I have the exact same ranks as you.
>>152422004
What I want to know is where on that chart is the cut off between small and medium jump points.
>>152425358
That was just the first screen shot I found, I spent like ten minutes in that avenger waiting for the dude to get out of his seat so I could shoot him. He had a couple of fights with pirates during that and felt no g effects at all.
>>152425748
shouldnt be too bad. it's fairly wide. i personally havent had much trouble with shooting down m50s in my sabre, i doubt the buccaneer will be much different. the difference will be that the buccaneer will actually be dangerous to it's opponent
>>152426185
you can shoot through the seat
>>152426162
i think that's still up in the air. they dont really have to worry about it until it's time to add a second solar system.
>>152426162
I'd guess constellation is the first medium jump point ship

>>152425918

>>152419293
That anon should have been more concise. It's not the straight line speed he should have been talking about but how ships are generally twisting, tossing and turning while fighting each other. A human gunner gets mark on target for half a second before the pilot has already jerked the ship away to focus on what's in his face.
>>152422148
The ship is too big in the concept art.
WHAT. MORE. DO. YOU. WANT. FROM. ME. YOU. CUNT.
>>152425918
You should watch documentaries of turret gunners trying to hit aircraft like Bf109s and Fw190s. They couldn't even see Me262s, the way ships maneuver in SC it is impossible for a gunner to do anything but fire wildly and never hit anything.
>>152426579
So it really won't have beds or a cargo hold or any of the other things you'd expect a long range ship to have?
>>152426579
That's disappointing.
>>152426630
>Career start location
Does that mean where you originally spawned or the second you started talking to her that's the distance you jumped?
Is there any hacky workaround for when I try to get out of my Gladius? Every time I try to get out of the ship to go onto another station or repair the comms array, the flight controls lock up and I get "Reduce speed to stablize". Nothing works, cant eject, cant get out, cant fly... have to self destruct or restart game
>>152426684

So with the new stations and future features expected in Horizons, we are likely to see season 3 feature first/third person walking outside and inside of vehicles?
>>152428771
outside yes. Maybe inside when the ship's stationary, but probably never while the ship is actually moving. SC has proved that shit is hard as hell to code and not really worth it in the long run.

>>152441496
But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.
Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.

They warped from some random planet's orbit to some debris field near a moon, no bullshit jumping into "cruise mode" to sit there for 2 minutes flying to that debris field, they just pressed a button and were there after a few seconds of animation.
They did that like 10 times or some shit, just jumping from point to point within system.
Literally made my dick hard.
>>152441496
It's a space simulator. Space is full of empty space.
>>152441856
I thought the current PTU was only set around a single gas giant and it's moons, that's why it's fast.
>>152441496
Because it's far.
>>152441978
His point was less the speed the more you just quantum between points rather than wasting time dealing with a bullshit supercruise that adds nothing to the game.
>>152442042
This.
>>152441943
Yeah, doesn't mean you have to shove it up my ass every time i want to get from point a to point b though.
My friend watched that SC demo and took interest in it. Could you give me that pic with all whats actually happening to the game? Saw it in on of these threads.

After playing 2.5 and the maneuverability changes this seems to be precisely what they have done. Wether it was done to accommodate turrets or more realistically simulate delta v of large craft is still something I'm trying to figure out.
At any rate the turrets are shit and will continue to be until they either automate them via npcs or change them to be run by the ship computer and give a station to weapons officers that allow them to pick and choose targets to engage via sensor pings with options for remote manual override should the situation arise it becomes needed

Sorry man, I don't know what to say. Some people like the fact that it takes time to get places in Elite Dangerous. I don't mind it, it gets me decently immersed and I have other things to do in the mean time, like suck my own dick or pop bubble wrap. Probably just isn't the type of game for you.
So, I was playing Elite: Dangerous - Horizons in the past few days, and I found a planet, with a mountain in a crater. I figured I’d be “Crazy”, and land on the top of the Mountain, so I did.
I was there, landed a few minutes, dozens of lightyears from anywhere, and this twinkly piano piece began to play. Looking out, over the majesty of stars, sitting so Small and alone, I admit that I teared up a little. I did. I was overcome by it all.
It’s incredible that the life’s work of a Cambridge scholar, to create a believable simulation of our galaxy, has all but come true. And it’s only going to get more real. Imagine the next generation of Quantum computing, a Thousand times faster than modern Machines. Though most likely, some of that will be swallowed up by larger displays with Higher resolutions.
Still, The Stars My Destination.

Just show him that initial clip, dont have him watch the rest of that shit, just that small little clip, that's all i need to know this game will be at the very least, good.
I'm lost and confused and too high to understand the packages. what package do I buy if I want the main game when it's out, but also to toy with the "modules"(?) that are released and that new dog fighting thing.
>>152441496
Its one of the key aspects of ED and indispensable. Space is fucking huge and ED builds on a legacy of games that have distanced themselves from your bland standard twitch shooter a'la chris roberts for 30 years now. ED at least tries to be somewhat realistic.
In short if you don't like it - don't play it. I'm not happy with fdev but the core game concept, that galaxy and travel times are fine and will not change no matter how much you whine.
Now go ahead and call me a dad.

It depends on the type of ship you want to start with. A Mustang Alpha package is enough if you don't know what you want to do in the game and you can upgrade it to another ship if you want. Squadron 42 is the solo campaign so you have to put a few more bucks if you want the solo campaign in addition to the MMO aspect. The Aurora MR package is a waste of money.

>>152442790
I ask you: Do you want a space game? If necessary, do you want a space game more total and radical than anything that we can even imagine today?
Elite Dangerous is not a game to be taken literally. It is saturated with an abundance of metaphors and symbolism; some painfully and intentionally obvious whiles others painfully subtle. It is not particularly intelligent and never makes any attempts at being profound. Although occasionally nonsensical and gratuitously pornographic, it would be wrong to judge Elite Dangerous on its face value alone.
Elite Dangerous is the ugly duckling: scorned for unsightliness, but an ethereal swan from the start. It is a fairytale of vibrant colours and simple joys. It truly is that brilliant painting of which a fleeting glimpse you catch, but an enduring impression you get.
In conclusion, I do not think Elite Dangerous deserves all the ridicule and hatred that is being dished out. The stringency and inadaptability of the traditional fantastical and newbie friendly approach practiced by so called "fathers of vision" is to blame for this. Hoc salsum esse putas? fugit te, inepte: quamuis sordida res et inuenusta est. Elite Dangerous is unshackled from such rigidities and doing so through homosexuality rather than the vapid norm, it sheds light on the enigma which has eluded psychologists for centuries.
Nun, Volk, steh auf und Sturm brich los!
>>152442890
I agree to an extent that I like it and a minute it too here and there is not that big a deal.
However when you get to a system that has stations that are upwards to 90k ls it's pretty fucking retarded.
>>152443128
Trump/Pence 2446!
>>152442042
So how long will it take to supercruise between different planets?
>>152443668
I've just taken to avoiding anything above 3k ls.
>>152442042
At this point, I'd just be happy with consistent supercruise acceleration/deceleration.
>>152443814
Fuck. I meant quantum drive.
>>152443814
like 5-30 seconds
>>152422152
It's weird how the turrets on the Millenium Falcon made more sense. Gunners still had a window, but their chair was at a 90 degree angle to the hull so the window was on the hull and they aimed through the computer targeting system. Gun itself was on a gimbal mount remotely operated.

>>152423237

>>152444130
They have Delamar really close to Crusader, for the purposes of the demo obviously. It's not even supposed to be in Stanton.
>>152444642
to quote CR:
>Systems are 1:10 distance between planets because it felt right about time investment with travelling.
>Planets are 1:4 or 1:6 for the same reason – time to travel and get down from orbit.
>With those scales, it takes 40 mins in quantum travel to travel from one end of the system to the other.
>>152445489
40 minutes? Wow and people complain about the time it takes to travel in supercruise.
>>152445703
The thing is whereas every E:D system is completely empty, SC systems will be full of shit because space is supposed to be fun in a game not empty.
Also don't forget there's in game shit you can do during those down times, sgain as opposed to E:D where you sit in your cockpit watching the stardust as you make the hutton run.
>>152445816
ED really just needs things to do during downtime. I used to enjoy reading chat or tracking markets or dicking around with sov overlays in EVE.
>>152446108
It needs an autopilot feature so you can go afk in the 10 minutes it takes you to get somewhere decently far away without overshooting.
>>152445816
Also, except in rare trading runs you won't actually be in supercruise the entire time, jump points are often in the middle of systems.
>>152446232
if its over 10k ls i just alt tab out, you can hear when you're getting close and typically it leaves you enough time to correct speed
>>152445816
>The thing is whereas every E:D system is completely empty, SC systems will be full of shit because space is supposed to be fun in a game not empty.
So you can drop out of QD onto things on your path or something? I thought it was point to point.
>Also don't forget there's in game shit you can do during those down times
What things can you do while in QD?
>>152446956
Get up and walk around your ship
Play some poker with your crew mates on your fold out table.
>>152446956
Nah think about it, It takes 40 minutes to go from end to end, but 99% of the time you're not going end to end, you're only going a couple points.
Think of the system like a subway system. You never ride the subway from end to end. The 40 minute figure is just to put the system in scale.
>>152444128
>>152444228
>tfw we have the current shitty turret designs instead of something like this
So if I'm correct, at the moment I can only visit the commlinks, ICC, cryastro stations, and port olisar, there is an ICC mission, 8 commlink missions and an insurance mission, and I can't visit a planet yet?

>>152447038

I've always really wanted a space game with crew interaction.
>SC Turrets
Jesus fuck just slap on a turret-only module requirement "Firing Computer" that either takes up a ship's component slots or takes up one of the "size" slots on the hardpoint that functions like E:D's wobbly auto-aimer weapons. (or like early AC)
>Different quality computers have faster convergence rates
>ECM can scramble them
>Since they're wobbly, using them doesn't really let you focus down certain critical unless the target is REALLLY big and REALLY close.

>>152449210
Well seeing as FD is incredibly incompetent at managing variables from compounding on top of each other, I imagine it'll be exploitable like FSD synthesis already sort of is (you can stack one each of all three types)
If the FSD boost from a D class star is noticeably bigger than the level 3 synthesis boost, and you can still stack synth boosts on top of that...
ExampleExploraconda:
50 LY jump range
200 LY new jump range after white dwarf/neutron infusion
400LY add the 100% synth
500LY add the 50% synth
550LY add the 25% synth

So apparently dropping out of supercruise near a white dwarf or neutron star will now expose your ship to the tidal forces which will begin to tear it apart.
I assume that means black holes will likewise finally be dangerous.
