I also learned the hard way to check health status before capturing someone.
In vanilla you can't do anything when someone has a broken spine. Can't even release them and throw them out.
So you basically have to kill him or feed him for the rest of his miserable life.
I suggest harvesting some organs and then euthanize him. Or kill him by harvesting the heart or something, but i think the mood debuff is larger that way.

My base is pretty big, and it happened in a remote corner of my base that doesn't really have anything important. I've got a geothermal over there, a few empty bedrooms (some who used it shacked up with others, and some died), and a few fields that aren't being used because it's winter.

Okay, so I am looking for 2 mods:

Mod that lets you actually confine a person to an area. Like, if they are set to an area they do not leave it for useless pawns with only one or two uses

Drawbridge or collapsible wall mod so I can make anti-raider ovens and more complex kill rooms.

I tried Hardcore SK but nobody would cook the like 600 meat from killing the 52nd batallion of grizzly bears combined with the Elite Raptor Squad that wanted to feast on the one pet I had in the entire map that was inside MY BASE because I forgot to install a door. In order to actually cook it I had to make cooking a priority order for every meal and like 80% of the time ALL 4 OF MY COLONISTS WERE TOO BUSY 'TAKING A WALK' OR DAYDREAMING INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY COOKING THE FUCKING FOOD OR BUTCHERING THE FUCKING CORPSE. WHY???

It was on Cassandra Rough. I constructed all the required facilities. Seriously if someone could help me fix this bug hardcore SK would otherwise be really good

You can't harvest legs in vanilla I think, just make some money and buy a pair of bionic legs from spess traders.

Oh and in the meantime you can slap a pair of peg legs on him, though these only give you 20% of his original movement speed back

"Incapacitated" means he can't move. You'll also get it if your colonist shatters his or her spine.

You can click on the "Operations" tab next to Overview and set up a procedure to install peg legs. Movement will be super slow, but it'll be movement.

In the long run you'll want to install bionic legs. But you'll have to wait until you can trade for those.

I've got a joy room set up. If you meant mood, I've got a 12x12 electrical grid to pop in any lighting or entertainment I need, smoothed floors help a fuckton with beauty, and all the rooms are spacious.

Early going I was getting mood debuffs though thanks to all the rooms being under construction and everyone having to bunk together.

My end game is going to be using sun lamps to build a fuckmassive field around the coolers, replacing the cave walls with constructed walls, knocking down the bottom center room to create an entryway (this wasn't in the original plan but a fuckmassive hidden room being there fucked my defenses), and shoring up my power supply with more generators and some defenses.

Also, all the open doors make getting around easy and the standardized layout makes dealing with infestations a tad bit easier since i have clear line of fire (though I had to replace 3 doors after the last one).

And since all the rooms are internal structures 1 room off from what is essentially a single hall, it's a breeze to regulate temperature.

Most of the rooms will look substantially better once they get furniture and plants and shit. I'm still digging out my base. I may upgrade the 2nd layer from the outside to 9x9 rooms once I'm to the wall replacement stage. The dining room, hospital, and guest rooms are he ones that will still look off center as shit with the wonky light since they're almost all beds and I can pretty easily stick them to the 4 corners easily enough and still have plenty of room for crops.

First room barracks, then I set up a kitchen and freezer with power supply and stuck beds in any nook and cranny I could find, then I stuck coolers by the entrance, then I built internal storage, and then from there it was just a matter of slowly adding rooms and beds for various purposes.

I had to swap bed usage on the fly quite a bit in the beginning to have enough bedrooms, prisons, and hospitals at any given moment but I eventually ended up with enough space (albeit for a bit 2 people were sleeping in the research room, which will eventually be my workshop)

Once you reach a point it's fairly easy to move beds into new rooms and fill in the old bedrooms with new purposes since you can move beds and lights without disassembling them. I keep the work areas near the entrance and the beds away from the work areas.

The biggest thing this game needs is more events that shape the early days of your colony.

One man raids, wild animals, and flash storms don't cause you to build differently or change your research order. They happen, you deal with them (or ignore them entirely), and then you forget they ever happened.

Examples:
>large patch of the map is reduced to 0% fertility
May force you to relocate your farms, or switch to a more hunting-based food supply, or rush hydroponics.

>something falls from orbit, leaving a large crater - area can't be built on, like swamp, forced to build around it or relocate
Could completely alter the way you build your base.

Melee pawns can be very viable.
Its good to also have some rangers as well though.

I have two melee fighters, I tend to hide them behind my shooters or somewhere hidden otherwise and have them come out to attack when enemies get close.
Its especially useful for raiders with ranged weapons when they try to get in close to shoot you.

Mods help, of course.

I find it to be fun, I always use it.

Downsides are that roaming zombies on the map kill incoming raids, visitors and sieges easily, which might allow you to loot too much too easily. It's not so problematic in vanilla, but zombies killed Orion visitors in my Glittertech mod playthrough, giving me early access to high tech. Zombies may also revive annoyingly often, because destroying the head, which kills the zombies finally, is RNG-dependent. You can use grenades, molotovs or cremators to destroy the bodies, though.

Note that you should install the version from the last few pages of the thread on the ludeon forums.
Also note that zombie infections from bites can be cured with medical care.

Base game is a bit thin sometimes, especially after you've played with it heavily modded. With vanilla alone I don't think I ever had the game crashes so it's not that buggy. I ran a deathcamp where my colonists used prisoners frostbite for training. If you're into that type of thing then I'd say buy it. Also the next version will have chickens doing cocaine.

And generally from what I've seen of how Tynan interacts with the community and implements things he seems like a decent guy/developer.

once you break one of the blocks it'll open to reveal random enemies and cryocaskets full of people

Keep the design of your kill box but shorten it and put the entrance on one of the sides. That way both rows of turrets can hit the raiders.

Move your dining stuff out of the workshop area, if you have dedicated rooms the get a bonus. You can see this by clicking the bars toggle in the bottom right and mousing over the room, it'll give you a bunch of stats about how the colonists percieve it.

Only the tiles under the hospital bed need to be sterile for the bonus, the rest can be whatever to increase beauty. Ignore this if you just like the aesthetic of sterile.

Overall 8/10 where the fuck did you get the steel for all those turrets

So let's say an Infestation spawns now. Let one colonist close the door. Now you've reduced the damage the bugs can do to the environment. Also, since they can't see you they won't attack you.
Now you have all the time you need to setup Gun Turrets and or explosive IEDs. Remember that you can replace Gun Turrets without deconstructing them.

Take your time. Setup 1-2 Turrets and arm your colonists behind them.

How do I deal with sleeping sickness? I have two guys with it, I put all of my guys on immediate rest if they're wounded or sick and this shit is never going away. They're in their med bed 24/7 being treated by my doc but it doesn't seem to help.

Last time i got sleeping sickness i only had herbal medicine, so that should be enough.
Also, probably good idea to change their schedule so they have an hour or two more sleep.

The point is that adding a realism element doesn't necessarily improve gameplay. It's easy to make something fiddly that loses sight of the main gameplay focus.

I'd prefer to see hydration added from a macro sense initially (it's more problematic to be able to grow shit willy nilly in the desert than it is to imagine that your colonists are drinking water while they're eating).

But what does it actually add to the game? E.g. the food system pressures the player into creating farms, which requires dirt, which means you can't just have your colonies stay inside forever doing nothing. Unless you "pay" a lot of steel and components to make hydroponics, which will never be as good as a bunch of farmable land. It also creates variety when playing on different biomes, e.g. deserts have little arable land, forests have a lot but then have their own problems, etc.

Then there's raids, which means colonists need defenses, skilled fighters, and weapons. Defenses need lots of steel (for turrets and sandbags) and/or a lot of labor in the form of building walls, which can be cheap but weak wood walls or expensive but durable stone walls. You can also build your own weapons, or spend precious silver buying good ones from traders, etc. There's all these interesting decisions that raids force you to make which creates all this interesting gameplay.

With water though, it's very similar to the food system. I.e. it's a resource you can get from the surrounding wilderness (hunting for food, or gathering from lakes for water), or can be gathered from the right kind of ground with primitive technology (farm vs. well) or you can use advanced tech to get it from more restrictive areas (hydroponics vs. deep drilled wells or something). You can use it raw but people might get sick and unhappy (raw food vs. unsanitized water) but there's also natural sources that are safe raw but rarer (berries vs. rainwater). And so on and so on.

Of course there are also ways they can be differentiated, and I'm not disputing that it would be a fun mechanic to add to the game. But in terms of how much effort it would be to create, versus how many new interesting decisions and scenarios it would add, versus the other features it would displace, it makes perfect sense that Tynan has decided to forego a water system in favor of other game systems.

Hey Rimworld General, I kinda want to do a Wild West run in the game and I was wondering what mods would help me get this feel of small time dusty frontier town. I was hoping to find some weapons mods that add older weapons like double barrel shotguns and rifles of the era. Rimfire adds a few revolvers and older bolt action rifles but I was hoping for more black powder style things. I'm also planning on setting up in an arid shrubland biome so that I could at least get some crops in instead of getting food fucked by the desert. Past that anything that could help add a rustic feel would be great. I need to set up a saloon among the things I want to build but I doubt an olde timey piano is among the things modded into the game.
