Hoshimemo is one of those titles that has a lot to like, and a lot to hate. I have a severe love-hate with the routes of the title in particular because there's so much fuckdumb drama in them.

Read it during the time when there was massive amounts of shitposting about it.

It's a moege with a little extra supernatural stuff to hold interest. It's filled with repetitive comedy and I found it rather dull but there are good points.

The common route was of decent length with plenty of character building and the heroines are nicely well written but the entire game felt shallow to me. The drama was forced and the characters all seem to fit directly into archetypes with little variance for their own personality. The protagonist suffers from little to no personailty as well apart from his "muh childhood friend" complex.

Nevertheless it has some memorable moments and it's very comfy with good music and if you can understand the supernatural shite then I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Basically what happened was that Effordom Soft, an Akabei sub-brand, released a game with an appallingly low number of CGs for full price (I think it was like 30). This was a problem because the only reason people were interested in it was because of Yuuki Hagure's art. Apparently the writing was hilariously bad too, and one of the heroines' routes was missing on release and had to be patched in later.

Predictably, it bombed to the extent of taking the brand down with it. Several Akabei staff members apologized over the whole mess on Nico and promised everyone who bought the game that they'd get a new game by the same artist for free.

Later, a disgruntled Akabei employee posted on 2ch ranting about the horrible development conditions at the company and revealed that the producer of Juukishi was none other than Looseboy (with business card photos to prove it). Looseboy is the writer of Sharin no Kuni and G-Senjou no Maou. Akabei had tried to shift the blame onto some other guy to protect Looseboy's name, since he's Akabei's only popular writer left. There was a lot of anger on 2ch over the whole thing, with calls to boycott Looseboy's games.
