So, this game so far made me:
- Get party van'd by security forces for snooping with a phone near a national security installation for a bulbsaur nest

Nests are clusters of spawns of the same Pokemon that have low spawn timers

They are very, very good for candy farming.
They are very, very bad for looking for good IV Pokemon because they are guaranteed to have shit IVs. Ask any botter that used to farm Dratini Lake.

If you want a good IV Pokemon, you hatch one from the egg and then farm a nest for candies so you can evolve+power it up.

After about 3 weeks of sporadic testing into the subject of "What's the best way to level up a friendly gym?", I fairly conclusively have my answer now, and it turns out to be the first thing I tried:

Stick a CP 10 Magikarp in there, no higher. Kill it repeatedly with a CP 10 Pokemon that can do roughly 16 damage in one hit, or two quick hits after stab and weakness, flee in 0.1 nanosecond at the start of the second fight if there's more than just the Magikarp in the gym, then normal potion it up once every 6 to 10 fights. You will get 500 prestige per fight, while losing 1 to 2 hp per time.

The probable god tier would be a CP 10 Magnemite with Spark (not sure Thunderbolt would work) with as much attack IV as it can have without hitting CP 11, vs a IV 0 Magikarp with CP 10.


It's a bit monotonous, but it's very easy to do, doesn't need many potions to pull it off and you're more or less guaranteed a level 9 or 10 gym at the end of it. Ideally it should be somebody else's Magikarp and you have enough friends to fill the gym up and help grind against the Karp. 10 friends each beating the Magikarp the same way 6 times and then adding all your Pokemon (+2k Prestige each new Pokemon) will get you a 52,000 prestige gym with 9 good defenders and a Magikarp. Ideally remove the Karp using a second account on a diff team at this point, and level it back up to 10 for the last guy to add his own Pokemon.

That's all there is to it. I've tried every potential good combo I can think of, but the strength of the defender jumps by about 2.5x when it goes up to as little as CP 11, so that kills 99% of possibilities as the difficulty spikes upwards as you go even a bit higher CP.

Think it's 100 per defeated pokemon, 50 bonus for beating up all the opponents, and maybe another small bonus for turning the gym.

Beating the gym leader grants a much larger reward in lowering prestige. If you're farming xp you want their prestige to last as long as possible, so it's better to run when you're facing the gym leader, then start a new round.

You also want to use stronger mons so you won't get any significant prestige bonus for being an underdog.

A lv 10 gym could net you thousands of xp. If you have a friend it's probably more efficient to fight together and save health potions. I don't think xp rewards change.
