It was theorized, but nobody bought one to test it. The first guy I heard talk abouti t was runnerguy. He was only running the English version and salty everybody only cared about Japanese, so he said he'd go for the any% world record, if someone bought him an ique. He actually got gifted one and played for a day before becoming a despicable oathbreaker and never playing it again. Then Cosmo bought one too and timed the advantage at around 13 seconds (old route) and got wr by 10 seconds. Skater was pretty mad about it and said iQue shouldn't be allowed, but the voice of Cosmo's fans drowned him out.
I find the whole situation pretty similiar to the original sin in the Garden of Eden. Speedrunning was never the same again. And Cosmo even became a woman like Eve. Really makes you think.

with the current set up, no. these tournaments take multiple months to complete and are all 1v1 matches. it has been suggested that the current format is terrible and cannot be sustainable in the long run, but that hasn't stopped people from continuing the current format. tournament popularity has reached it's glass ceiling due to the current format.

tournaments will be the de facto main form of competition in the general speedrun scene. in a year or so you can expect to see some tournaments done at live marathons, or marathons dedicated to certain tournaments only. even though more tournaments will sprout up, the viewer and exposure of those games will not.

There is evidence and it was verified. The fact that it's not uploaded on public servers is irrelevant. Many Guinness records are not uploaded in video form, but they are included because someone acredited by the organization dedicated to verify, organize and present those records in an annal did exactly dad. Similarly, the required evidence to add that run to the database was submitted by the runner, verified by a member of said organization who deemed it both legitimate and worth its inclusion in the database and thus it's there now. The run is available for further review, just not YOUR review. If requested by the people running the site he can probably submit the run again, but, if it has already been verified, what's the need to do that.
This is really just a further example of the entitlement culture we currently live in. Everyone wants to get the best, but isn't willing to work at all to get it. I want to watch world records runs for my personal amusement but I am not willing to run anything myself because it takes too much time, because it's too hard, because I'd rather gossip about women I'll never meet on /srg/, etc.
