So I have a set of vectors, like so:
std::vector<Position> positions;
std::vector<Hitbox> hitboxes;
etc.

And a few functions that add items to these vectors, as well as some other work, like:
void attach_position(unsigned int entity, Position position)
void attach_hitbox(unsigned int entity, Hitbox hitbox)

but that's obviously dumb because there's a lot of repeated code. But I can't think of a way to use templates here in a way that wouldn't later end up with me using a switch/if-else statement
like:

case Position:
case Hitbox
etc

Anyone know how I could avoid this and write this more concisely?

Reposting from old thread, put hp onto the HUD and implemented the new health system

In standard form you're a 2 hit kill, but possessing an enemy gives you an additional 4 hits that don't regenerate between enemies (so taking a hit in one enemy then moving to another means you're still at 5 health, not the max of 6). The 2 standard health you have regenerates whenever you go into an enemy

1. Speed differences
You seem to have that one figured out. But instead of slowing the player down I'd just make it so enemies are always slightly faster than the player.

2. Time limits
Backpedaling for too long results in penalties. For example, if you leave part of the level to backpedal-murder a bunch of enemies who got the aggro on you, by the time you'll come back new enemies will have respawned. (You need to make this clear.)
You could also make a type of enemy that gets more dangerous the longer you let it walk around, or impose a regular time limit on the player.

3. Smart enemies
If the player's moving away and the enemies aren't fast enough to melee him, then they just retreat and take cover (if there's any) or stay out of range.

Well, you've already done it so no need to worry about that, I guess, you've taken care of it! A lot of people don't realize that the rooms are 30fps by default and that the whole game is tied to fps speed, so they end up with 30fps games and can't fix it.

Hyper Light Drifter devs didn't realize the demand of 60fps until way late into development so they released it with the 30fps lock because they couldn't go back and change everything they had done to fit a different fps. Then to justify themselves they said something like "60fps means double the animation" which is bullshit.

This is your best one. Colors are mostly good, though the hat gets lost against the dark canon, and I didn't notice the beard until just now against the coat. Again, it's a classic idea but has memorable aspects about it. The barnacles are a nice touch.

You got variables, they store values that you use later

You got your if statements, which let your program do something different depending on what the variables are

You got your loops which let you do stuff lots of times without writing the same shit over and over again

You got your functions which are just a bunch of code that you can run whenever you want and feed in different values

You got your objects which are just a bunch of variables and functions stuck together

You got your classes which let you make templates for objects so they have all the right stuff in them

You got your interfaces and abstract classes and all that other shit which stop you forgetting to put stuff you want in your classes

You don't even need most of that shit to get started. You can do plenty of shit with just variables, if statements and loops.

So go learn it. Bonus: its a marketable skill that is actually in demand and pays well.

You've got 4 columns containing elements of different heights, leading to a kind of masonry layout, which takes a lot of faffing around to achieve, and it doesn't even look very good in this case, so it'd be better to just go with one post per line or a grid with fixed row height.

For the styling just slap bootstrap on there and call it a day, don't waste time rolling your own shitty CSS theme.

You're also going to need a backend and a database. And presumably posts will have to expire at some point? How is the ordering of the posts decided? Newest first? Random rotation? Is there going to be a user account system or can you just post anonymously or with an email address? May need captcha to prevent spam. May need admins to moderate. If it is anonymous how would the owner change the details? Try to avoid user accounts because its hard to do authentication right.

There's also probably some kind of free cloud service that could provide this functionality out of the box.

Looks like a lot of effort for something only 3 people will use.

It's not required to be FULL time, but a solid amount of time; your workload would basically vary depending on what we had (for example, you might do some animations, then while we're working on other gameplay aspects, you'd have no work, so on).
The pay is something you'd have to talk to the lead artist about as you'd be working under him, but AFAIK it would be a percentage of Patreon funds and/or a flat fee of at least a few hundred bucks per animation, from what I remember him telling me.
The Patreons you'd be animating stuff for would be http://www.patreon.com/viperv and http://www.patreon.com/hentaiwriter (both NSFW).

We can also use different art/animation for another game we're working on much farther down the line, and you could do really any style of animation you wanted for that one, as it would be used in a single minigame within that particular game.

I'm already running other backend tasks on aggydaggy.com, it wouldn't be a big deal at all. I could roll my own solution, but right now I'm just using firebase for everything, which has braindead simple endpoints, authentication (which I won't use, things should be anonymous), and can even allow safe image uploading (no one would upload cp to a google service). Captcha can be implemented relatively easily.

As for coming back to edit, I imagine I could implement a tripcode system for identification. Make an ad and supply a password when you make it, use that same password to edit / remove. No usernames needed.

It's something that a lot of people have asked for. I'm not sure who would actually use it, but there aren't really any other features that have been asked for so might as well.

so I made a three dimensional array of voxels for my world

they are all empty GameObjects, is this bad?
It means there will be about 1 million gameobjects being spawned upon loading the world, but not all of them are rendered obviously (air is invisible)

I would leave out gameobject for empty voxels, but the problem is, the player will be in Terrain Edit Mode where you can create and destroy lots of voxels, which would mean creating and destroying game objects.

Oh wow, that's really funny that the jam got appropriated. On a progress note, anyone got any suggestions for the empty background space in this basic enemy portrait? The games I could think of with portraits (megaman x, kirby superstar, disgaea) basically show as little empty space as they can, which I guess I didn't follow very well. I got framedrops bellow 40fps and was not sure what was causing it.

Ai uses A* now after some anon convinced me to do so last night. Still has the same problem as before though (doesn't move towards player at certain angles). It's most definitely my angle calculation.

I use this equation:
((dir + 22.5) div 45)*45

Where dir = the direction in degrees from the enemies position to the next point in the path. I save the angle then use it to find the sign (returns -1, 0, or +1) of cos(dir) and -sin(dir).

I just use this so that I can move my enemy 1 space on the path created. It will move depending on what numbers are returned (so if it's +1, and 0 then it'll move right).

It's just spaghetti code I made so that it works with the movement code I previously made. I have no idea if there is an easier way.

I did more frames of animation. Surprise. I'm sure you guys are sick of seeing the same animation a little more half-finished every day so I'll refrain from posting it until I have the first draft done.

I did go back and correct some of the ones I had shrank accidentally, and I created a paper reference that I can hold up to the screen and compare the sizes of various body parts so it doesn't happen again-the light of the screen shines though, so I can see exactly without having to eyeball. Of course, it's a little more difficult when the body parts are bent or at different angles, but it's still a good reference, and I believe it will prevent me from making this mistake again.

As slowly as this is going, I really am learning as I go, so I'm happy with that.

Not that guy, but particle systems should have proper hitboxes unless they're really small, just experiment with the particle systems that come with unity.

Also, both your tracers and bullets have to be real time projectiles if you want to produce even the most basic arcade-style air combat gameplay, so they have to have a collider at minimum and a rigidbody if you want to simulate bullet drop easily.
You better not even be thinking about making your plane cannons hitscan, nigger.

Here's what you need to do:
1) Stop what you're doing and do a bunch of tutorials so that you actually understand what the fuck you're doing before you fuck yourself and have to start over.
2) Prototype your gameplay with placeholders before doing sprite work, so that you don't end up spending a bunch of time making art for a game that is shit or making art that doesn't work with the gameplay.
