Personally I think it's good to work on accuracy first rather than quick kills so that you get the basics down. Try to get as many shots to hit weak spots as you can and you'll find yourself getting quicker over time.

That's why, even if objectively it has less content, it might be regarded as the most comfortable place to start. As many started in Tri, they have fonder memories of that game rather than those who started in later or earlier games.

In the case of the Very Long GS, take a normal length GS then stick another GS blade on the tip of the first one.

That becomes your new attacking hitbox.
For example in the picture only the orange blade bit actually does damage, and anything (other hunters, cats, small monsters) caught in the closer bit will not actually get hit.

As for the lances, if you've ever seen the FU Yama fight, think of something so long you can stand at the edge of the ledge you stand on and safely poke Yama from there.

I dunno, the 3rd generation games were more or less done in the style of the first two generations, where each game was just built on the last one. There were a few cases of missing content from game to game (most of the Leviathans were gone in P3rd because no underwater, but most of the new monsters were just there to mimic the missing ones anyway; 3U was missing Tigrex, Akantor/Ukanlos and Amatsu for no real reason in particular), but each game was basically just an expansion to the previous game.

4U and X aren't really like that. There are a ton of monsters that were in 4U that aren't in X, and a lot of the returning monsters in X were the monsters that didn't make an appearance in 4U. The list of monsters that don't appear in either game is shockingly small.

It's almost closer to some fucked up Pokemon situation, where 4U was MH4 Red and X was MH4 Blue.

HR Shagaru is a good full suit. Normal Up is pretty important, true shot up is good if you use powershot often, focus is comfy but surprisingly not that common in TAs, weakness exploit is really good, especially paired with crit boost. The teostra bow outclasses almost every other bow for a variety of reasons.

Why not try all of them? I have sets for the four of them and they all have their advantages.

Guild is good for balanced sword/axe gameplay (you charge the red shield with axe once and upkeep with sword mode's X+A after the shield thrust) and lets you use the limit breaker + energy blade combo.

Striker is more focused on axe mode (5% buff for red shield attacks) and is more versatile on the HA loadout.

Aerial is good for a simplified experience, and there's nothing more satisfying than getting a ko from a vault.

Adept is really good if you're trying to abuse perfect guard and dodges, and being able to go to red shield from the get-go is really nice.

CB might have gotten the short straw on a bunch of aspects, but it has lots of alternative gameplay and it feels like one of the few weapons where all styles are fleshed out really well (losing only maybe to dual blades on that). The only useless thing they added was the healing phials and even that gets at least one star for trying something different for a change.

Every quest you did in both hub and village gives a certain amount of experience points.These points will be put on hold until you unlocked your HR, during which they will immediately be calculated and your HR will rise accordingly.

Go Adept to abuse the tremors and gem Def Lock to not get rekt by the drool. Bring drugged meat to make him sleep and make him eat a couple LBB+, tinged and poisoned meat also help. Also bring a thunder weapon if you are going for element, all monster in this quest are vulnerable to it. After Jho is ded, smoke bomb the place and go for Narga (it can see through smoke), don't forget to upkeep the smoke. There's also a fence gate, so you can use that in the worst case scenario. Jho has 6k+ health (almost narga and tiggy combined) so it will take some time, but you can do it anon.

Use any item available (food, trap, bombs, etc), and keep swinging at it until it dies. Just play safe and don't worry if you died once. In 15-20 minutes he will die, and Tigrex and narga will spawn. Use the fence to separate them. If the fence goes down and you feel fighting those two together is too hard, bring mega dash juice to run around until the fence is ready. The alternative way is bring combine material for farcasters and just use it to hide in camp until the fence is ready. You won't get good clear time, but at least you have better chance to clear it.

It's just the standard Adept dodge -> reload -> A except it's holding R. There's no secret, you just have to hold the pad in a certain direction as you're dodging, easiest way to be in the monster's general direction is to press L for the soft camera lock while holding "Up" on the movepad.

Which means that you spent a lot of time doing non-Key quests, repeating quests you've already done, probably farming up multiple weapons/sets.

I did Village all the way to the credits without repeating any non-Arena quests, just using the starter Bherna set, level 2-3 Petrified weapons up until Garuga, and then Black Belt weapons the rest of the way.
Then I made a Black Belt set for Hub 1-3, Black Belt S set for Hub 4-7 (keeping the BB weapon current once I got to HR), and didn't repeat any quests - doing mostly Keys, but a few others outside of that to unlock certain HAs, Palico ranch stuff, arena fights, food ingredients, etc - and ended up unlocking at HR16.

It's far from impossible to solo your way to a low unlock.
