IIRC part of the reason only women can be firekeepers has to do with reproduction. The fire is a metaphor for life, and so only women, lifegivers, are suitable vessels for a bonfire.

There was a shield in DaS2 that depicted a woman holding a pregnant belly filled with chaos fire.

One of the fan theories out there is that Lothric was subject to the same ritual that produces firekeepers in order to make him a more suitable lord of cinder, hence why he's the only enemy in the game completely immune to dark damage.

I played through DaS3 two and a half times before I got sick of the world. The pvp isn't even interesting, there's very little going on in weapon and build variety. I got more play out of Dark Souls 2 by far.

I was gonna say you should play Dark Souls 1 first but 2's story is actually self-contained fan-fiction so just as long as you play DS1 before DS3, you're good.

If you have a PS4, it;s definitely worthwhile.
Shortest fromsoft RPG by both length and breadth of primary content, but still up to the quality standards of the rest of the series. It's far from perfect or the paragon of the series, like BBfags hold it up to be (note: most of the excessive praise is just consolewar shitposting) but it is still very good, and like any of the souls games, it's a no brainer that if you like one, you'll like the others. The DLC is easily some of the best content in the series. Just don't expect the same sort of multiplayer longevity you'd get out of dark souls, and once you realize how to actually work the combat system, the game becomes almost painfully easy.

It's definitely not worth buying a PS4 over just for the one game, but if you have the console already, then go for it.

The sentinels are super weak to strike damage

They're also basically the tutorial to fighting multiple enemies/bosses, which will come in handy because there's a lot of fights like that in DaS2. Don't lock on, control your camera manually so that you can keep track of both sentinels at the same time. Staying locked on to a single target when there's a second target trying to kill you is not a good idea

It's silly to compare them to O&S. O&S are a late-midgame boss you fight before the final stretch of main game content in 1 and they're obviously designed to be hugely difficult.

Ruin Sentinels are an earlygame boss. You can fight them as your 3rd boss in the main game and they're balanced to be nearly insurmountably difficult at that stage of the game. They're an earlygame wall meant to encourage players to pursue other paths of progression or to actually delve into the game's RPG elements and specialize to counter them.

They're hard because you typically encounter them at a low level with very little playtime in DaS2's combat system under your belt, and they're designed to be very difficult under those conditions.

Excellent game. The most challenging of the Souls games and has the highest quality material in every aspect from sound design, audio, theme, animations, visuals, textures, movesets, etc.

However, the PvP isn't good and the chalice dungeons while novel at first become a drag on your next playthroughs.
