We know that Flowey likes to talk to himself by Chara's grave, which is a pretty easy way to explain what Flowey's doing. Either that, or you can rule it out as noncanon 4th wall breaking because Toby didn't know how to write that in without doing that.

I've been thinking that Chara/Frisk might actually be another hybrid, with Chara acting as the monster component. When the first hybrid died, Chara should've died with Asriel as his SOUL breaks, but his genocide text implies he vaguely remembers sleeping in the coffin. Why? Well, if Flowey exists because the hybrid dust fell onto the flowers, maybe Chara exists because the hybrid dust fell onto his body, which went into the coffin and then into the ruins which Frisk falls on top of. Frisk's determination fully wakes monster Chara and ends up fusing him with Frisk.

Frisk being a hybrid also explains how he's able to leave in every neutral ending. All the monsters assume they killed Asgore for his soul, but it was never needed it in the first place. Also, you likely don't actually need a human and monster soul to leave the underground, only their power equivalent as Asriel proved, Being fused with a hybrid even if it's only their determined dust should give more than enough juice.

I don't think they ever left the Underground in any of the neutral endings. They're just stuck in the blank 'continue' space Flowey helped orchestrate, protected by the six souls from the fallout, but with no means to progress. That's why you get the end calls, but can never respond, and what would drive them to try again.

I remember some anon saying there was an old thread on reddit where they discovered that there were multiple SAVE files in the undertale code, and each save file had a name associated with them. Something like

File 1: Chara
File 2~7: Fallen children
File 8: Flowey
File 9: Frisk

What's even more interesting is it appears a notepad labeled file0 is your last save point, file8 is used for NPC memories, and file9 is autosave. Still, I don't know if what anon said is true or a bunch of bull. /utg/ should get back into doing fun stuff like dissecting the game's code and doing gaster stuff to celebrate its upcoming anniversary.

I think it would've really worked well to see it.

In neutral/pacifist, it would've made you feel more determined to find a way set everyone free if you saw the effects of the overcrowding. In genocide, it would've been super atmospheric to see the city completely empty, a ghost town.

It's close Asgore, just before the endings, so it would've been fucking amazing to cement your good or bad intentions by exploring a vast city beforehand.

It hurts that Undertale has such a limited world design. I get that it's underground, but it does make for a bland setting in a game full of colourful monsters and great music. Waterfall is one of the few areas that really sets up a great atmosphere.

It might've been fun to explore the woods of Snowdin, too. Anything to make the game a little less linear and more exploration involved.

I think the Ruins set up atmosphere well too. At that point you still don't know what to expect from the monsters.

But yeah, it would have been a great opportunity.
Instead we only got the hall of judgement. So many opportunites for little funny dialogues and conversations giving you the chance to reflect on your adventure and choices.

That Snowdin wasn't explored so much is okay, it's only a small town after all.
But that we couldn't see the capital properly is almost a crime.
