Iridium is common in asteroids. Planetside you are not likely to find it around yellow or red stars but green and blue star planets frequently have it. But seriously asteroid mining is the best method if you need some.

Radnox is mostly in blue star systems I believe, I still haven't seen it but it apparently comes in both big green nodules and sort of creatures that float around like jellyfish in the air. You can also buy it sometimes.

But this stuttering slow motion mess is too much. I just want this shit to be fluent. I hope this is some CPU problem and they fix it. Cause I notice it spikes to 100% alot and that does not seem normal when it's only at 50% normaly.

kinda bored now

finished the atlas path, which was a huge waste of time. Nice to have the 10 slots back though

now its just kind of.. eh. My ship has like 32 slots, could grind and get another but i dont exactly need more. Suit has loads, dont really need more. Dont need to install any upgrades etc cause its basically impossible to die

was hoping it gets more interesting towards the center but so far thats not the case.

See ship you like and convert, no need to take over items, just take the ship.

Instantly reload current save.

You now have a cooler looking ship but your old ship inventory and slot count has remained the exact same.

Sure, lets start a petition to fundamentally change an aspect of the game. Yes, I know the stars are simply a lens flair in the skybox, but lets all put our signatures down to make sure that becomes a real entity you can fly to and look at instead of focusing on fixing an already brilliant game.
These damn "Sean lied" and "Sean promised" posts are so damn tiring. Just enjoy the damn game for what it is. I haven't focused on a single thing that was said over the development cycle and you know what? I'm enjoying the hell out of the game.

Protips:
-Shoot the Sentinel Drone until it dies.

-Steel doors (found on Operations Centers and Manufacturing Facilities) can be broken through with the plasma (grenade) launcher.
--Plasma intensity (damage) upgrades do, in fact, let you break steel doors faster.
--An easy way to avoid Sentinel Drone aggro while breaking through doors? Fire, wait until your multitool lowers (as if you were about to put it away), then fire again. This pause between grenades seems to be just enough for the sentinels to ignore your willful destruction of property.

-Critters you haven't scanned yet will show up on your visor as a red circle with a white outline. After scanning them, the red circle switches to green.
--Birds and other fliers are basically assholes, so murder one and scan the corpse for maximum ease.
---As long as you're vaguely aiming at the location around a critter's corpse, you can still get a scan. Even if there's tall grass obscuring your vision.

-The mining laser with combat upgrades is pretty powerful, and doesn't come with reloading or running out of ammo. Consider trying it, if you get sick of the Boltcaster.

More to come as I figure shit out. If anyone has anything to contribute, feel free to.

That's still like 160 warps to do, and each time you warp it's like 10 fucking minutes because you can't boost into the black holes. Not to mention getting gas, and if your warp drive breaks.

He's a good moderating voice in a culture where black and white opinions run rampant. I don't really care if he's shit at videogames.

The video is mostly common sense stuff about how hype culture in videogames keeps breaking people's hearts and how NMS managed to get the hopes of not one but two "desperation genre" (open world survival and space game) fanbases which probably compounded the hatedom the game now has for not delivering a universe where you can do anything.
>>

>>
>>151935082
Exosuit upgrades will end up costing a lot for the last few slots.
Multi tools will also have quite a cost for a full slot one.
Ships are ridiculously expensive since they are the most important factor in the game, even if all the exploration is done mostly by foot.
Overall, money is very easy to farm and if you focus on it you can get a fully upgraded suit and ship by your second system in only a couple of gameplay hours.
>>
>E3 trailers
Hand made and crafted to represent some very specific scenes

PROCEDURAL

And that's why stuff like this will never work as a game, only as a tech demo maybe, which is what NMS actually is. They just wanted to show off their planet generation algorithm and hastily slapped some generic mechanics onto it.
>>
so Atlas stones don't stack? I'm supposed to waste 10 item slots on holding these things forever?
>>
>>151940615

Given that you're now likely 800k lightyears away from that checkpoint, just give up on it. Can you see blackholes on your map now? You may not need to bother with it. The last waypoint after turn-in is just a black hole. Maybe a space anomaly can help you.
>>
>>151940817

All the videos they put out were procedural. They just had the ability to teleport around and find ones good for showing off.

I did some pixel counting and came to the conclusion that the game actually is rendered at the screen resolution, and that those extreme jaggies are caused by some sort of shader running at an extreme low resolution. (Roughly 480x240.) It's like the opposite of AA, and makes edges more visible by adding extra jaggies.

Add extremely low-res textures, and broken texture filtering, and it's no wonder that people think it's rendered at sub-hd.

Sigma actually going by resource requirements, photonix and caster sm are preorder bonuses that also drop for everyone as blueprints.
There are two omega weapon parts, the third omega part in the code is a warp drive but I don't think it's actually in game. My personal theory on that is that the bugged wall blueprints that cause a consistent crash are trying to give drive omega because it was disabled halfassedly in the code.

they have a large aerial view map when you use beacons or reflectors or distress signals...

Why not expand on that? and why not give you a way to flag a "favorite" waypoint so you can easily find it later?

I want you to look at all the posts you make in these threads, all the images you post of cheesy B-movie and sci-fi comic covers.

The OP of these threads are images that the game doesn't represent.

Even your most mundane shallow desires aren't really met by the game.

>Otherwise my expectations was a comfy single player exploration game, and that's what I got.

The fact that some of you set your expectations really low and actively ignored some of the things Sean/HG were saying doesn't really change the fact that the vast majority of people who play this game, aren't playing the game they thought they would, or wanted.

>A vast majority of people DON'T FOLLOW GAMING JOURNALISM.

Right. So when you don't follow games blogs, you *might* see E3, or one of the other conferences, but you'll probably see the trailers and screenshots, maybe read the descriptions that go along with that, maybe you saw it on The Late Show, etc.

All of things give a completely unrepresentative image of what the game is. That being said, NMS is still a pretty niche title. The game only sold 100k in europe, which is about the numbers a decently selling anime game does.
>>
>>151947617

yeah that's the problem, I'm always using the scanner when I'm on a planet to find all the species.

Pretty worthless "marking" mechanic tbqh fampai

>>151947678

I actually wanted a comfy exploration game. There's a ton of other games I have if I want to focus on PVP multiplayer combat, or combat in general. I just want to explore, and a lot of games, the combat makes you unable to really enjoy exploring, because everything is trying to kill you.

So this game fills a niche that has for the most part, been ignored, because most people just want more and more combat and don't really care about exploration.

I actually LIKED the scanning and exploring of the Metroid Prime series. I LIKED running (or riding the mako) on planets and finding codec entries in Mass Effect. I just had to wait until everything on the planet was DEAD before I could really take a look around.

People who are disappointed are disappointed because they wanted more combat, or they wanted PVP. and consider wandering around and exploring and collecting to be the boring tedious parts they do just to get stuff to make them more powerful in PVP.

There's plenty of games for that, this isn't one of them. So stop expecting it to be and stop complaining that it's not.
>>

>>151948136

The trailers were all pretty blande, Anon. I honestly forced myself to stsy interested in this game because I knew I would like it just for the comfy space exploration aspect. I was right, but damn is this world void of anything interesting.

Another protip I've found time-saving:
>Planets with high/frenzied Sentinel presence always seem to have items laying around worth a pretty chunk of dosh (Gravatino Balls, Venom Sacs, etc..)
>Picking one up spawns 2 flyers and a big dog to come after you, but if you leave 1 of the flyers left alive you're free to grab everything else nearby without summoning more sentinels
Good for when there's like half a dozen in a small area

You can also just bolt it and run along. They'll never be able to catch you. You don't need to stop to pick up stuff, as long as it was in front of you when the circle is filling up it will complete even if you're past it (or alternatively just use the quick actions mod and pick them instantly), so you can just run along a path of items.
It's no fun though.
>>
>>151948832
your a fag that's why
>>
>>151948156
Except this game would rather you stop every five seconds to stick your nose in your inventory, than explore it.

You're constantly incentivized to do anything *but* exploring, and besides that there's the fact that there is only 15 biomes in the game which makes exploring pretty fucking mundane.

The idea that the complaints are just about the shit combat or the lack of any kind of multiplayer is a total fallacy, the game has been in development for four years and it looks worse than the initial reveal trailer in just about every way, the game is full of broken promises and baffling decisions.

Assets in the trailers and screenshots that were perfectly fine looking yet now simply don't exist in the game for no apparent reason, interaction between the alien races basically null and identical.

An instagram style piss filter over the entire game doesn't help with the issue of the planets all looking the same.

So many times I've heard about how this game is about exploration, yet there are so many different things actively working against that concept in the game, nevermind the fact that they dedicated trailers to the other aspects of the game and talked about them being just as important.

>it's about exploration!
Is just an excuse to handwave off the fact that so much of the game is shit and half assed. If they cared about exploration they wouldn't have made the galaxy so fucking homogeneous.

I've followed this game from the beginning and even I am disappointed. The game is, in a sense, everything I expected but the amount of shit they got wrong is ridiculous.

>horrible performance on most PCs
>all systems having stations and NPCs so you never feel TRULY alone
>factions dont matter beyond learning a separate set of words for each
>game breaking bugs out the wazoo like the game thinking you have certain techs that you don't, which can ruin your fucking game if this happens to warp reactors
>dont even get me started on the god awful atmospheric flight mechanics
>seriously WHO THOUGHT THIS ATMOSPHERIC FLIGHT WAS A GOOD IDEA?

If you have to read literally every interview and watch every trailer to figure out what things are said and which are lies, then it's not anyone else's fault for getting confused.

Off of the top of my head, things lied about:
Multiplayer
Ship customization
Portals
Multiple endings
Crashed starships in planets
On planet ship combat
NPC quests
Allied Factions accompanying you
Sandworms
"18 Quintillion planets"
Complicated inter-species AI for alien animals
Galaxy getting "more messed up" towards the center
"No such thing as biomes in NMS"
Walker style sentinels
Entire planets & solar systems are destructable
Mysterious Portals
Online Economy
Textures being randomly generated (ie "even the face of rocks and pebbles)
Randomly generated clouds/Fauna(ie number of branches, shape etc)
"We don't know what's in our game"

I've honestly forgot more shit that's been lied about this game than I remember.

You literally never have to roll your ship manually. The only time it's ever necessary is to get a better look at something on the ground, which you can't do any easier because the game puts on the biggest training wheels of all time for low orbit flight.

>>151953784

There is always a trade interface at space stations, and yes you can trade with other ships if you see them land. Also if you're looking for one on a planet, you can find trade outposts if you find a building with a landing pad on it. Those will always have trade interfaces and ships that land occasionally for you to trade with.

>>151953857

I can't remember honestly if I've found iridium on asteroids but it's a somewhat uncommon metal that you can find on planets. It will always form small arches that you can destroy, I haven't seen it form giant pillars like gold, heridium, and emeril do.

steamspy estimates almost 700k sold on steam plus there are other distributers to buy from

UPDATE: AMD Phenom Support
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten to support AMD CPUs. The game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2,
Havok Physics has also now created new libs. Game is now confirmed working on Phenom CPUs.

UPDATE: Mouse Smoothing
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.
It now defaults to off. If you feel the framerate is "slow" or "lumpy", please make sure that this is turned off (it helps players with sub-30 fps)

UPDATE: Improved Performance
On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.
On CPUs with 8 threads, performance has also been significantly improved.

UPDATE: Radeon 6xxx
Added support for this GPU, which doesn't support OpenGL 4.5 fully.

UPDATE: Player Saves
Help to recover some player saves which had been lost or corrupt.

Alt-Tab has improved
Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.

Shader Caching
Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on (this will be fixed in future). This is particularly true on ATI cards

Max FPS Cap
On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been improved.

Intel GPUs
The game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.
UPDATE: We are working on Intel GPU support.

Gsync
Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users

NMS has sold about 500,000 copies on PC
Let's see how much Sean has made on just PC sales alone
>500,000 copies sold x $60 a copy (I know other countries may have different prices but let's just be conservative and say the Russia low prices cancel out the Australia high prices)
That's $30,000,000
>Valve takes 30% a purchase
That leaves $21,000,000
>Sony takes 40% per purchase to cover marketing and to recoup the money they gave HG during development
That leaves $9,000,000
>Hello games has 15 employees, Sean is a co-founder along with Grant Duncan
>Sean probably took 1/5 along with Grant, and gave the remaining 3/5 to the other 13 employees in some reasonable manner
That leaves Sean with $1.8 million from PC sales

>>
>>151957204

you can drag resource to an empty slot, but the upgrades you craft are locked to their slots

there is a reason, because crafting upgrades of the same type next to one another or the system they modify chains them together and gives you a bonus (you can see if they are chained from the border)

this is also why ships and tools have the slots in random spots because it changes what systems can be linked up, like if you get a tool where the mining laser isn't next to an empty slot it kind of sucks

It's just a name, Anon. It generates the universe seed again from scratch and then throws a new name up for the cycle you're on.

Not sure what happens when you run out of galaxy names or if you even can run out of them.

I'm also curious just how similar everyone's galaxies are. The seed looks like it just mashes things together with minimum rules. If that's the case then it can't possibly stay perfectly similar for every user aside from the first circumference.

they sell for like 27k i think, and over 50k with a good multiplier on the terminal

27k x 40 = 1.08 mil

I was getting 800k+ for each full inventory but I could get over a mil now with maxed suit

if you have your suit slots maxed and you find a terminal around +100% you can get over 2 mil from each full inventory

They don't exist in the way that they were presented (roaming around on some planets) the only way to get them to ever spawn is to get a 5 star rating and wait a long time.

The problem with that though is it's very hard to get a five star rating and maintain it.

Because you can't make a good game if 99% of the content is procedural and the gameplay mechanics are watered down to shit.

Look at Bloodborne's Random Chalice Dungeons, they're get old after 10-15 hours but the core gameplay is still fun and keeps you on edge since you have to constantly parry, dodge, heal, and find the exit.

NMS just has walking, mining, tagging creatures and inventory full as mechanics. The game is as vastness of the universe and the shallowness of a micron.

Seems like a 1, 2 and 3 increase your ammo by 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75 each.

if you have them then they multiply. 1 and 2 means your ammo goes up by 1.25*1.5=1.875

You know I was pretty disappointed with the game but after watching some "clueless" people that weren't hyped at all reach the space station, notice how there is literally nothing there, how they all look the same, how the aliens don't even get out of the ship, how all aliens are exactly the same but with a different skin, after seeing people experience that and notice I found that I wasn't nearly as disappointed and mad as I should've been. It really is much worse than I thought, if I had to price it myself I would say $14 dollar maximum and only if it was early access and going to be continuely developed for years

>tfw the ship-flipping business has you driving a short-bus for a while
>>
It is fucking ridiculous how much time it consumes to reach the center, especially when you actively try to do so from the very beginning. If you decide not to follow Atlas because the game implies this is the alternative to finding the center you never gain the ability to find black holes without the help of Nada. Eventually I heard about that and thought "well fuck, lots of hours wasted". Now the next problem is that black holes can break your fucking expensive warp drive upgrades. To reduce the chance of that happening you need lots of other upgrades installed that can break instead and are easy to fix. Which means: You need a bigger ship. The biggest ones cost 25mil from what I have seen, though some may sell those for 20? So you have to farm poison sacs or whatever for a while before you can afford that. And THEN you can effectively rush the center.

Question: When you reach the center of the galaxy and go to the next one, exactly what do you lose and what do you keep? Because if you lose your ship or your multitool and then you have to grind that all over again that'd be a gamekiller. Losing your blueprints would also suck but they can be found again pretty fast if you know where to look.

Btw, since the center is one, fixed spot everyone can find on the map, shouldn't it be much easier to "meet up" there then the game claims it to be? Not like it's even possible, I know, but just saying. This could potentially be the ultimate multiplayer meet up spot if it ever gets added.

So I pirated the game because I wasn't sure about it. Turns out the game itself is actually pretty fun and at least a decent execution of the original concept.

I found a green grassy planet and some large life forms within like 2 hours too, so the reviews saying that shit is rare as fuck arent even true, at least for me.

The problem is the port is fucking terrible. If I run the game on just lower than max settings my GPU gets to 92c, which is the highest its ever been. I could understand if the game actually looked good and ran with a good framerate, but it looks like shit and is choppy.

Are they going to fix this shit in a patch? I want to get the game but not if it runs and looks this bad.

Blatant lies are way different than exaggerations. "You can do anything!" and at the time there was A LOT of things Fable did that weren't RPG staples yet or commonly found in other games.

Peter made it sound as if you could go collect acorns and grow your own forest but here's the thing: You DID plant an acorn in Fable 2, and it DID grow as the game progressed but only because it was tied to a story event.

Sean however:
>When NMS was described as an MMO he didn't correct the interviewer
>Claimed there wouldn't be any AI at all
>Only way to see yourself is from another player implying you can play with AND SEE other players

Bold lies that are simply not true by any stretch of imagination.

The acorn thing was just his analogy that they put in as a reference. He promised multiple different years where you could watch children grow up and the world slowly change. Instead there was a binary timeskip switch that just jumoed you forward.

I don't think Murray lied. I just think he got ahead of himself and didn't realize his own limited capabilities. This was a big game for people that had made jack shit before, and it seemed that a lot of times he was just nervous or socially awkward. I honestly wonder if he even knew what people were asking him half the time.

Hell, I remember him coming up on E3 and I couldn't believe they let him on the stage at all, but then they started showing the game and it was a lot better than he was.

Murray doesn't seem like some con artist that pulled one over on people. He just seems like someone that thought he could do more than he actually could. But don't forget he plans to shave the beard and disappear so who knows.

It's got a lot of problems, lots of flaws.
If you look at the boring gameplay and think, 'this looks bad, but my kind of bad', then you might have fun with it.

Can I sell every item that belongs to the "Trade Commodity" category? Or they might have other uses as well for me?
>>
why the fuck does my scanner not do anything while I'm in my ship?
I have never picked anything up while scanning form my ship.
>>
There is this ship I really like the design of in my station. If I wait till it comes back is there a chance of it having a different # of slots?

It only shows loactions sometimes, they turn up as green/blueish question marks

Also in space you scan for location on planet marking and identifieng them.

resource scan only works on foot.

There's 0 fucking inventory space to spare, and you can learn the recipes for some of the items & all of the alloys.

>game crashes
>lose every single waypoint

>120 million units

>just waiting/looking for a ship with 45+ slots

wait for base building and freighters. it's an alright 'game' but until it's got more content and shit to do it is not worth $60.
