Revenge of the Bots

So it has become apparent that Niantic has a total of 12 staff.

And they are banning people based on walking too far, spinning too many pokestops, having too many high level monsters, or just on the number of reports.

How do we combat this? We just report all the walkers.

They simply built an auto-ban algorithm and have zero time to look into things themselves. Traven too much? BAN! Make too much XP? BAN! Spin too many pokestops? BAN! Get reported more than once? BAN!!!

If we just get everyone auto-banned, Niantic will have to revert to square one and we'll be back in control my boys.

A few families strike up conversations with me since they can see I'm playing, we trade info on good places to farm, I keep telling them about a short bike trail where there's 9 stops you can hit in under 4 minutes on a bike or roller blades.

Not every CP/HP pair will have a unique IV combination, you have to power them up and go through several levels to figure out which combination fits all the data.

say you're level 9 and your pokemon cp is 90 cp, and its 100% full (white bar is all the way across)

when you get to level 10, his cp will still be 90, but it will be 90% full, and you can then power him up again to get him 100% again, and increase his cp to 100

so basically yes you can power him up again, it wont be 'maxed' any more

pokemon have hidden levels, so your pokemon can reach level 9 while you're level 9, and when you hit level 10 he'll still be level 9 and you'd have to power him up so he can catch up to level 10

Nests are frequent spawns of shit IVs. They are good for Pokedex entries and candy farming but not for high IV Pokemon. Usually they are also a cluster of multiple spawns of the same Pokemon so it's fairly obvious if you're farming a nest when all the IVs are shit but there's a lot of them.

There are non-nest regular spawns too so you really have to check IVs to be sure.

Depends on the Pokemon, and what you mean by "important." The perfection percentage that IV calculators give you might be misleading -- it's just 15 points for each stat. What's more important in the end, IMO, is your Pokemon's stat vs. the max.

If you look at Dragonite as an example, more than 95% of its maximum possible attack is guaranteed -- that is, if your Dragonite an attack IV of 0, it hits 95.6% as hard as the 15 IV Dragonite that captain autismo sent his bot across the world to get, as long as they're the same level. Unsurprisingly, Dragonite's 250 base attack doesn't really need those 15 points to prop it up. But, something like Chansey might be able use the help in that department, since it has 40 base attack, but even a perfect IV would bring it up to just 55, which is dog shit.

A more moderate example is something like Wigglytuff. It only gets 110 base defense, so that's 88% of its possible total for that stat guaranteed. That's not disastrous, but if you got a 0 def IV Jigglypuff, maybe consider flushing it. But, if you got one with a defense IV of 8, you're not looking so bad, anymore -- that's 94.4% of the max for the stat on Wigglytuff. You can get away with this, because Wigglytuff has a ton of HP (only 5% of which is decided by IV).

What you should take away from this is that IVs affect weak stats a lot more than they affect strong ones. If, for some reason, you want to make a Pokemon as good as it can be at something it isn't good at, then IVs are important, but won't really help. If you're playing to a Pokemon's strengths, then IVs aren't very important.

I don't know if others have already thought this through, but I've been wondering if it's better to power up a magikarp before evolving it, or to simply power it up when it becomes a gyrados.

To clarify I did a quick spreadsheet and it seems it is better to power it up as magikarp, since the cost in stardust and candy will ultimately be the same, and you are likely to experience a CP benefit of about 6CP to 32CP per 4x level ups. Not really a massive benefit in the short term but certainly a somewhat noticeable difference.

Magikarp gets +4CP per level up (16)
Gyrados gets +39 CP per level up (156)

However the +4 level up in a Magikarp can translate into as much as a +40-47 difference in evolved Gyrados total CP.

It's pretty slim but it had been bothering me for a while so I needed to confirm.

A lv 20.5 Magikarp will be a lv 20.5 Gyarados if you evolve it. There is zero difference in CP gain from powering up a lv 1 Magikarp and then evolving it versus evolving a Magikarp at lv 1 and then powering up the Gyarados. Do you think it matters? Because it doesn't.

The reason you want to evolve first before dumping Star Dusts into a Pokemon is because the movesets are randomised so you really don't want to burn all the Star Dust only to get cucked in the end with a Twisterdos.

It isn't that hard to understand - as I said, there is a small benefit in powering up the Magikarp prior to evolving it (CP wise) than doing it afterwards. The stardust and candy cost is the same because the level is the same, but the +4CP from a magikarp power up translates into a higher amount when evolved than 39, which is the amount of CP you get from powering up a gyrados. Eg. a 100CP magikarp would evolve into a 1010-1180CP Gyrados. Power the Gyrados up once and it will become 1049-1219. Alternatively, a 104CP magikarp would evolve into a 1050-1227CP Gyrados, slightly stronger than if you had powered it up once evolved.

As stated, it's fairly marginal and therefore if you have concerns about moves such as Twister then the minor benefit may not be worth the risk, but that's really for you to decide. You are incorrect in assuming that there isn't a difference, however.

IT DOESN'T MATTER because you are tracking the wrong fucking stats.

A Pokemon is defined by their species, level, and three hidden IV stats (Attack, Defense, Stamina), not its CP and HP. The game just auto-calculates the CP and HP with a well-known and well-documented formula and only shows you the CP instead of showing you the IVs.

You are only keeping track of CP of before and after you evolve the Magikarp. You can have a shitty Magikarp with 104 CP and also a stellar Magikarp with 104 CP but in the end you won't know until you actually put in the legwork to type that shit into a calculator and power it up a couple times to confirm its exact IV combination.

This is exactly why I said, it doesn't matter. You can mix and match the order of evolutions and Power Ups however you want but the end result will be the exact fucking same.

A Magikarp with 10/12/13 IVs will still have 10/12/13 IVs when it's evolved into a Gyarados. It doesn't matter how many times you powered it up before or after evolving, just that you did. A lv 1 Magikarp powered up to lv say..15 before evolved into a Gyarados will have the EXACT same CP/HP stats as the same Magikarp that was evolved at lv 1 and then powered up to lv 15. The EXACT same.

I wasn't being hostile the first time I replied to you because your post demonstrated a fundamental lack of understanding of game mechanics and a lot of people make the mistake thinking that the CP gains are random or that the power up caps are based on CP values and not Trainer Level. You can keep telling me that I was molested by family members but that doesn't change the fact that you objectively wrong.

Go read the other post's link and learn how Pokemon stats actually fucking work before pretending you know what you're talking about.

I am betting that Niantic will fucking randomise the IVs on trade because they'll implement trading as "Delete Pokemon from Trainer A's storage, spawn new Pokemon in Trainer B's storage". Plus 99.99% of players with 100% IV Pokemon will have gotten it from sniping/botting or from a sniper/botter.

No they won't. That would make people trade repeatedly until IVs are 100%.

Slap on 24 hour cooldowns with a finite number of trades, like 10 a day or something.

Chances of getting a perfect 100% IV Pokemon from pure randomness is 1/4096. With a cooldown and trade limit, it will take people months if not years to get one perfect IV Pokemon at like 10-20 a day. And that's not accounting for moveset because Niantic will probably randomise that too if they're randomising IVs. And then with balance changes, the perfect moveset could change too.
