Are ship randomly generated (tm) or is there a pre-set number of ships?
ALSO I am currently 172k light years away from the center.
Scrolling through the map for a minute made me come close to 170k.
Jumping to the next system requires at least a few minutes of work if the resources for the jump thingy are gone.

You go through 10 of those things in total.
As a reward you will get a useful ability that will help you reach the center of the galaxy faster and also the option to spend 10 atlas stones to do something that is absolutely a waste for 10 atlas stones. However, the ability is kinda worth it, and you get it even if you don't pay the 10 stones I think.
>>151888937
Transmissions, and transmission towers are what you want, (not observatories, which only give ruins).

thank god, I spent the first one I got (am on my way to second atlas zone). Is it another poetic thing? Well now I'm sad that I still missed out on it, but that seems the be the whole game is you miss out on the path you don't take in life...

Beacons lead to an 'advanced life form', which is an alien with a galactic trading hub & a new MT to buy.

1.Find one of the red glowy beam-things. They're fucking everywhere.
2.Make an override by pressing the 'use' key on an inventory slot.
3.Repeat step 2 a couple times
4.Use the overrides on the beam-thing, searching for transmissions.
5.When it finds a Beacon, go to the beacon & save.
5.5: Optional: reload the game to get rid of excess map icons
6: Use the beacon, and go to the map marker it spawns.
You then can buy a new, often-times-better multi-tool.
Or, you know, stop being an idiot in alien/monolith/ship-crash interactions. I've gotten multiple tools from those as well.

Milestone scenes are a bit annoying, but I love the NPCs in this game.
I was really impressed with the observatories, and the riddles you have to solve, until I got to my 3rd one and realised that was the extent of the interaction.
But I like the NPC, picking apart the dialog, and deciphering what they want you to do.

>>151894878
Pros:
>neat ship aesthetics
>they did a decent job of making mining satisfying
>underwater and caves are really pretty
>when you find neat planets they're really neat
>fun if sort of limited gun customisation
>little comfy shit like the sound of rain hitting the metal roof of your ship
cons:
>constant minutelong interruptions you can't cancel when you literally get an achievement for walking a few feet, this will happen 90 times assuming you get them all
>the vast majority of planets are not only boring but really ugly because unless they have dense grass you can see the disgusting stretched tiled textures everywhere
>most creatures look really stupid
>no player agency beyond mining
>no ship customisation especially, just buy and replace
>nothing to really do that isn't fighting or mining and only five enemy types to fight including animals
>runs like shit (60 sometimes, other times constant drops to like 1 as it loads things in) and super buggy
>gross pissfilter (fixed by mods)

Why does the games looks the same at 640x480 and 1920x1080 (more like 1080p is the same thing as 480p except for non stretched menus)?
Am I doing something wrong?
Any good alternative for the shitty AA? Is it possible to increase render resolution?
A friend recently received this game as a gift and I'm waffling about whether or not I want it, mostly on the "not" side out of muh pricetag.
Is there, or is there not, actual multiplayer? All I've been able to get so far is WOW SO MANY PLAYERS
Oh, question 2:
Are the ships also procedurally generated? Is space combat not shit?
what do??
i need a FUCKING MULTITOOL ALREADY
>>151892349
Once they hoard enough money so they can actually start on multiplayer development.
(guessing 6 months to a year)
>>151895683
There is NOT actual multiplayer. The only multiplayer element of any kind is a server you can upload names you give to creatures and places you find to so on the offchance another player ever sees it they can see you named an outpost buttlord on the planet deeznuts. Imagine spore except you can't actually make, build or seriously change anything, and it's in first person. That's no man's sky.
On the other hand it's on GOG which means there's a DRM version you can pirate risk-free and it's only 2.5GB, so if you want a calm game to play while you listen to a podcast or do loser drugs like marijuana or acid it's probably worth a trip on the seven seas.

>>151897259
anything you want, really, just look through the settings file
there are a lot of different settings you can turn on or off and each have multiple parameters to mess around with
some of the settings will kill your fps though

I use a sweetfx or reshade for almost every game i play usually to tweak colors at least
Whats the best method of gaining atlas Passes?
>>151897831
I've heard that, after you get the v1 blueprint, you can get the v2/v3 blueprints from operations centers and/or manufacturing facilities. Random chance, though, as it sounds like it's just added to the reward pool for solving the puzzle.
Also, not sure if it's only one or both of them, post I read just said to use a scan beacon for "colonial outposts".

So, the best multitools have 24 slots, right? What, then, is the best loadout for it? I'm assuming it's basically all the mining laser mods, plasma grenade intensity 2&3, grenade radius 2, grenade velocity 2, analysis visor, scanner, and scan radius 2&3. Maybe prune some of the sigma mining laser upgrades, if there aren't enough slots for all that shit?

>>151899091

>>151898440
Just boost into atmosphere then boost along the planet you pleb.
>>151899258
I find the scanner pretty worthless when resources all get highlighted regardless, it just makes more annoying symbols flash onscreen. I dropped mine completely. Grenades can easily blast holes through cave roofs and oneshot dodgy sentinel drones with no upgrades, so I haven't bothered with those either; If grenades didn't destroy terrain I'd drop them altogether like the boltcaster and scanner.
There's four tiers (sigma, tau, theta, omega) of each laser upgrade, plus the railshot adapter. That's 17 slots, 18 including the mining beam. Analysis visor and plasma launcher are 20, then if you really want a scanner you could give it three range upgrades, or spend those last four slots on a for-fun boltcaster or grenade upgrades so you can, I don't know, oneshot sentinel quadrupeds or something.
Alternately you can stop at 20 and still have a multitool that functions to the best of its ability without extraneous shit, and focus on aesthetics instead of slots past that.
So this Railgun thing is broken right?
It didn't do shit, and what's worse is my gun overheats even faster now.
>>151899557
gonna be honest base building gets an even bigger meaningless to it when the game takes place in a massive galaxy, guess just like the pale blue dot picture. What they should do is implement free looking for flying.
>>151899775

Remember that one anon talking about them watching an old lady play NMS? Well, I found her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp-3A7aqGvo
>>151899816
Depends anon. starbound has base building and a large procedural galaxy/universe. If they make a way to quickly warp back, or something like that it'll be nice. It'll also depend on how it works, rust style, fallout 4 style or generic prefab shit. that too could kill it.
I just want pets, the ability to have more than one spaceship for storage/decoration and maybe the same for multitools to decorate my base with. Again, assuming there's a way to quickly teleport back home after exploring some time.
>>151899557

>>151900029
I thought rust was pretty similar to FO4.Don't forget minecraft style, everything in the game is voxels so that shouldn't be hard to implement even if it wouldn't actually be very good
>>151900269
I've seen both broad and really thin rivers. I also see cool terrain all the time, I'm convinced the people bitching about no interesting terrain are the same people bragging about never leaving the first system. And the awful graphics ALWAYS ruin the morphologically cool terrain.
>>151900068
straight from their site http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
the bottom bit "Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually."it also mentions pets but again they're not able to be pets so don't expect much from it.
>>151900325
I mean fallout 4 has a mix imo prefab shit but no upgrades. rust had like upgrades. fo4 building was just decorative for the most part and didn't really have much to it from what I remember. Rust the materials you build out of had actual purpose and shit, like with ark/any bland survival building game. and I dunnoit looks too non blocky for minecraft style to work I think. it'd be weird as hell man, like I'm expecting pre-fab though.

Do you know about jetpack boosting?
If not, the idea is that if you use melee while moving it adds some forward momentum for about half a second (you "charge" while attacking), and the jetpack maintains angular momentum until you hit something. So you sprint to get the fastest start, then melee, then while you're in the movement boost from melee (so like immediately after hitting the melee button) you press and hold the jetpack button and it makes you go super fast. It can vary, but if you time it right while going down an incline you end up going three or four times as fast as sprinting, you can pulse the jetpack to stay close to the ground without losing much momentum, and with a jetpack upgrade you can cover an absurd amount of ground with it.
>>151901778
No we're all aware of it but nobody knows how to fix it. Whether it's being upsampled from 900p or what is unknown

So far, it seems like the most annoying milestones to get are the survival milestones. It seems like you have to build back up from zero if you ever leave the planet you're progressing with it on, even if you only have like .1 sols left on your timer.
Haven't checked if you can just go in shelter and leave NMS running in the background to cheese it, though. If you can, then I guess my minor bitching can be rescinded.

for some reason there are parts of the pillar I cannot mine. from top to bottom, mining everything I could, I got approx. 7 stacks of 500 (3,500 items) of gold.

You just keep stepping up a bit at a time. Keep in mind you don't need to bother to fix or fuel the warp drive until you decide to leave the system. So the cost to fix up a crashed ship is rather low.
>>151908229
Uh no, i'm just someone who says that humanity doesn't have a good bone in it's body. We only explore to exploit, no matter what. And that applies to space travel.

I'm at the point where I no longer give a shit about being blind with the game in that I could probably jump to the center in about an hour or two and I've seen every type of planet a bunch of times over so i'll ask;
How exactly do you optimize mining? I've never really understood how the system works exactly, if I'm mining from large pires instead of the crystalized forms it always seems to take a *very* long time despite how many beam upgrades i tack onto my multitool. Is there a secret to getting more resources per "pop" of the tool or a way to significantly speed up the rate at which you mine chunks out?
So if my Multi Tool has 24 slots, does it simply turn into "Whichever one I like the look of aesthetically"? Or is it assuming they both have the same mods, their stats can in fact be different from one another?
>>151908305
>When do I get to see ships with 48 slots?
I don't think you get to leap up in huge steps. Most of the ships you see are only a few slots higher than what you already have. That's why it's more cost effective to fix up crashed ones.

The path to the center of the universe or whatever should be fraught with spooky stuff, and the center itself should have something extra spooky, like some monstrous godbeing gnawing on the roots of reality.
The game should start glitching out and breaking down as you near the center, with giraffes swimming through the air and planets where every animal has the exact same face. Creepy pasta sort of stuff.

They're quest necessary for doing the atlas path. I've been unable to get a straight answer out of anyone about the difference between atlas and non-atlas, all I know is that to complete the atlas path you need 10 atlas stones when you reach the galactic core.
personally I'm selling them for the dosh and to see what happens since I have only heard what happens on the atlas path, not the non-atlas.

We could have had cool stuff to explore.
Instead we have to recharge our thrusters every five minutes.
Why do so many devs feel like they completely miss the point of their own game?
I don't want to struggle with inventory space and constantly repair and recharge my stuff, I want to explore cool locales and see amazing cities and vast wildernesses.
Instead there's just the same minerals that you have to keep getting to go meet the same aliens in the same tiny buildings.

nyan station reporting for nyan
One of the many things that baffles me about this game and the decisions made is, you can make "planet sized planets" (that's such a dumb buzzphrase) but they couldn't make any of the spacestation's interiors look different?
And why are they so small? Why is there always only one NPC in there, and why are there never any ships there until after you enter?
Why does every building on every planet no matter wither or not we're in gek space or v'ykeen space look identical?
Why do different races of alien have the same looking technology/monoliths/weapons/etc?
Why is every ship in the universe a 1man vessel? Why does every alien live alone? How come every single planet has already been discovered by one of the other races before us?
Why are we the only one of our race in the entirety of space?
These are questions I asked myself within an hour or two of playing the game, how come Hello Games, in the years that they've been making this, seemingly never thought about it once?
>>151915559
>Why is every ship in the universe a 1man vessel?

>>151915559
>How come every single planet has already been discovered by one of the other races before us?
This is a sticking point
The entire point of the game is to discover new planets and everything on them, but everything is effectively already discovered by someone.
They could have cut out the "story" elements and just focused in on making it a full survival game where aside from surviving you have to explore and keep your starting bucket of bolts flying.
It would have been a stronger game overall.
What's more is with the new game mechanic of hitting the center of the galaxy they could roll out new updates in specific galaxies so they could have added new story elements later in a brand new galaxy. The individual galaxies are perhaps the strongest element of the game because the mechanic enables modular development like nothing else.

>but everything is already discovered by someone.
The fact that every single planet is covered from pole to pole in hundreds of thousands of drop pods, crashed ships, outposts, and shelters is easily the stupidest and most ruinous aspect of this game as a whole for me.
Every planet is settled regardless of how uninhabitable it is. Every planet is a graveyard of dead ships and probably-dead aliens. This game is about fucking exploration, and discovery, and there's this story about Sentinels keeping natural balance and shit and the races fighting against them. Apparently the Sentinels fucking lost. Hard.
The very concept that drives this game is completely and totally destroyed by it's piss poor generation system. Sean Murray needs to take the slider that governs how much civilization appears on every planet and turn it so low he chokes on it and it comes out as the shit that this game is.

So my understanding is that the game was initially a primarily PC title and then all that sony money came in, so they were incentive to focus on the ps4 version and not the PC version. PC version had a tiny little QA team.
Likely that they didn't even realize some stuff like the fucked up resolution or the lack of freelook in the cockpit were there or a problem.

Yeah, I think that's only the one that fixes it for people who couldn't get it to work or had constant crashes.

Use signal receivers to find beacons, then beacons to find major settlements. Beacons also appear as a white dot when found with the scanner, they don't have an icon. If you keep getting shitty shelters the planet probably has nothing better. Emigrate.

Last I checked japanese game devs aren't taught in school either. You have to be a real dumbshit to not know how "atlas" is spelled, even when you're referring to it specifically in a game where it is repeatedly spelled correctly.

My strategy, being that I'm a GoG fag and can't spam one Transmission Tower for a million crash sites, is to bust out a shit load of transmission scans after I land on a planet, get at least 3 tower discoveries, run around to all of them ticking them off (another annoyance is that the names of them always change to "Shelter" instead of Outpost, Observatory, Transmission Tower so I have to go to all of them) and getting multiple site crash locations on the map before I actually go and pick them up so such things don't happen.

I want physical ship customisation. It's like the devs played spore and were like "hey, that's a neat idea. I know how we can make it better: make it first person and take out all the features that actually drew people to the game in the first place." In fact I want physical ship customisation to correlate to stats. I want ship cargo holds to slow the ship's acceleration and top in-atmosphere down but add loads of inventory space, wings to make a ship more maneuverable in the atmosphere, plating to make it heavier but better shielded, and so forth, ideally without retarded tiers like what FO4 does with weapons (making inferior versions of parts obsolete so you're gimping yourself by using them for aestheticsand endgame guns basically all look the same, defeating the purpose of customisation), so I can aesthetically customise my ship and also have my tiny sleek needle ship with guns on the wings be more agile and have better weapons but carry less and be more fragile than my friend's huge plated space Winnebago.

>>151930854
That's mainly because when you trigger a fight like that there's always an incredibly high chance that one of the Sentinels will get stuck on the other side of the building. Once you get inside it gives up on its pathing attempts.

I don't think Gravitino Balls give you the instant sentinels. Vortex cubes and pearls for sure.
How far away have people spawned from the centre? I hear people saying warp drive is actually faster than black holes when maxed out, but mine takes me a maximum of like 100 light years closer per jump with all upgrades up to theta (don't know if omega exists for warp drives...?), and I'm 170k lightyears away. 1.7k jumps seems a bit much. Plus even going at max speed toward the centre in the star map, I only go about 10k light years a minute.
What colour stars do you need what reactor for?
>>151931015
You mean normally those new arrived, 4-legged fuckers should waiting for me outside until I came out? Also, once I kill a few Sentinels it doesn't make the others ones in the planet automatically hostile towards me, right?
>>151930474
I don't think they need to be linked together, I think linking them just makes them all more effective. having the upgrade should do what it says it does.
>>151931269
Elites arrive when you assault a structure? I had never noticed. Anyway, in theory I think that they're supposed to go away if you deactivate the alarm. But since there's no fighting inside buildings, the moment you step in they can't see you anymore and so they leave.
And don't worry about killing Sentinels. Their aggressiveness is determined by the planet. If they're only reactionary they'll always be so no matter what you do.

>>151931262
Okay, scratch that, I can go 1500 light years linearly. I just assumed the path I was given approximated my max jump distance.
However, there's still the issue that moving linearly in the direction of the centre barely got me closer in like five minutes (assuming it's that very bright light with an anamorphic flare on it) and after that 1.5k ly jump I'm only like 5 ly closer to the centre according to that figure.

really makes you think
It's just me or the experimental patch for pirated gog doesn't change shit about perfomance?
>>151932717
Grinding on a lucky planet or using CE is pretty much the only way, that doesn't take forever, to get the money for the expensive ships.
I found the blueprint for the hyperdrive theta when I was still using only the normal one, it said that I already knew the technology and I can't build it.
Is it just gimping your progress on purpose so you can follow the path you're supposed to follow ?
>>151932717
You don't. You look for crashed ships on planets and trade into ones that have +1 slots. Additionally, when you do this make sure to disassemble any ship parts in your current ship and transfer the raw materials to the new ship, and eventually sell of the bulk. Money adds up fast doing this and easily pays for Exosuit slot upgrades.
Note: Don't disassemble parts before you've examined the crashed ship. Its level of technology upgrades is dependent on the level of technology upgrades you have in your current ship. Examine it, then cancel, open up your ship inventory, disassemble, examine new ship, transfer, accept. Then go do it 30 more times and you're ready to start playing the game :^)

the patch is for the fags that had massive lag or couldn't run the game. it does nothing for people who had no issues.
>>151933013
You might have to get the previous blueprints first. After that you should be able to use theta without the previous ones I was just using theta and tau for a while because I didn't have the materials for sigma in my new ship.
>>151933107But I have issues, especially the fucking stuttering.
>>151933205
working as intended ;^)

>Fundoesn'texist.png
>>151933105
can you do that repeatedly on the same planet ?
I tend to stick around on a planet a lot but I never found more than one crashed ship. I always go for transmission when hacking beacons too.

Now go liberate the galaxy from vagina tyranny.

>Yes the game isn't what it should be. We don't care. We're having fun.
The game is SHIT and your fun is WRONG.
>>151931549
E-Elites? Just my luck! Either way, thanks for the info. Even managed to deactivate the alarm.
>>151932001
Have you tried it in practice? The latest AMD driver also contains optimization for No Man's Sky, but since I'm using an earlier version I can't tell how much performance increase does that mean.
>>151932987
The game files for GOG and Steam versions are the same (hence why you can apply the Experimental Patch on the GOG version too - Anon here who shared this yesterday), so in that sense doesn't mean if it's pirated and / or which version.
The patch is first and foremost about being able to start the game, not performance. I have every requirement and seen multiple people playing with rigs exactly like mine yet I simply couldn't start the GOG version. With the EP, I have no issues.
Isn't it funny how three ancient civilisations had ruins that looked exactly the same
and across multiple systems despite them coming from before a spacefaring time
>>151933487
isn't it funny how they discovered literally all the planets and moons you go to? so literally none of the planets are "undiscovered"
top kek nu-male sky fags
got some parking issues
>>151933487
Isn't it funny that finding ancient ruins is as rewarding as finding a random knowledge stone 80% of the time ?
First time I encountered a monolith I was like "oh shit this is come 2001 space odyssey shit"
Now I'm like "Oh cool, a new word"

Yes, do this:

They all are in matrix anyway.
>>151933591
That actually bothers me. We're discovering shit that someone built and, in several cases, is still actively using.
I mean, I guess we could pass for explorer from another species just cataloguing our findings, but still.

New Galaxy

to be completely honest it's already like that.
>>151890050
what ability do you get?
>>151932717
I move around a lot so I do a bit of everything, it just depends on what I find. If I find a high value trade item (like sac venom) world that's covered I'll do a few inventory gulls there, does take long to rack up a quick million or two in under half an hour. I open up all cargo boxes I find for those items. I do a little bit of gold/emeril mining if I'm on the planet for something else. Also I just picked up a recipe for a 30k trade item that only requires plutonium and titanite so I'll start turning my extra piles of that into money.
Basically I just sell whatever I find. It's taking a while but I'm content with my 30 slot ship and I'm having fun making the money instead of grinding.

Black holes show on map.
You can then warp from hole to hole pretty easily with a Tau or Theta drive. Just stop by colored systems occasionally to gather spare munerals to repair things.

Space currently has more resources in greater concentrations than we have on earth. Resources we desperately need to prevent several upcoming crises. It also has no environment to hurt so it's a great place to put all industry.
So why haven't we gone?
