What cards should I use for my Onion Knight in Mobius?

Trying again in this thread I guess.

Need some advice for RK. I got Leon from FF2's SSB (Darkborn Blade) from Summer Lucky Draw and want to use him. How do I best make use of him and especially how do I cope with his atrocious RES, especially in regards to him attracting black magic via the SSB?

He makes for a good Knight, but from my experience Leon really does the best if you're using him for Hand of the Emperor, so he just ends up being a beatstick with a SSB if you only have Darkborn Blade.

I'm in the same sort of boat with you regarding Leon. Drew his SSB on a random ass banner in April when I was just starting out & no HotE. Not enough orbs to get SC past rank 1 too, but orbfest is going on so maybe that could change. I only bring him along when there's a requirement to take care of (dark or holy weakness, removing bullshit via banishing strike, etc). Only decent way I can manage his health is just babysit him with a white mage and/or defend if necessary.

If you absolutely need him for the damage from the SSB, you'll probably find a way to use him. If he's low level for you, maybe get his shit from the Hall of Rites and level him up during the fest.

Levels and all that aren't a big deal. My Major Orbs were just kinda eaten up by Thief's Revenge, so not much honing happening. His 5 Combat/Knight/Darkness is just really nice for me, and he's got solid equipment access too, not to mention a great way to tank via the SSB. Just his RES being shit sucks. I wish he had access to Drain Strike or something. Maybe Bracing Bash will have to help out with RES.

Actually getting Hand of the Emperor aswell seems like a pretty damn unlikely happening, too.

Depends on what you have to back them up. I have Cecil/Exdeath myself and so I will roll with tickets to see what I get since right now the pool is still small enough to get some good characters in. Even WoL is alright for me if I draw him since having a source of Full Break that isn't going to be Rain 6* form is great since that will let Rain use his buff instead.

Lenna is worth it, but you can save for the FF3 banner and try pulling Refia, Tellah wouldn't substitute Kefka but he is alright, if you have Cecil you don't really need WoL, even though having both is desirable to some extent you can always wait for when he gets his 6*.

If you want to you can roll some tickets to try a Lenna or possible WoL, but spending everything you have on this banner is not worth it

What I really seem to need right now is physical attackers. I'm using Edgar, chainsaw makes up for a lot of lost stats, and Zidane for stealing/trust. Don't really have a Chizuru or CoD type of heavy physical hitter.

WoL does have full break, but not much else for damage and Cecil already covers the tank role (and will do so even better once his 6 star comes out).

You should wait for the next banner then. Nobody on this one is that great of an attacker (wol can do a decent job) and the next banner looks like it's either going to be IX or XIII, both of which have some good attackers. XIII in particular has Lightning.

The major plus for Lenna is being easy to get and being one of the best 3* healer, but you will eventually need a healer with 6* even if it is for the extra survivability alone and Fina can cover quite a lot by herself, just be sure to pull for Ludmille and Refia and you will be set for healing for a fucking long time.

I got Celes' Excalibur after making TR. She's not a Knight YET, but it does boost Holy. And now I got Leon's SSB, aswell. Super low on both major wind and major holy though and mostly the lower ones to convert up, too, from making well-honed good 4*.

Yeah, those are pretty good. I guess you should start on St Cross and abandon TR for a while. Try to not make 5* abilities until you can craft and hone them to R3 right away. They are not that good at R2 or less, and it avoids this issue you're facing.

TR is R2 at least. Sadly I missed a lot of the good R5s when they were given out for free. The Darkness ones, too. Tornado Strike for Spellblade has seen some use even at R1 thanks to Celes' SSB recharging it at least, so her upgrade to Knight 5 might see me make Saint's Cross in fights she can recharge it in.

I wonder if I can just cast Black Magic at her myself to charge her.

Well, now I've got a focus user and two Exdeaths.
So I guess my comp should be Exdeathx2 (Shiva+Ramuh), Warrior of Light (Golem), Celes (Ifrit), and Krile/Fina for heals? I wish we could just run a full 6 person party and forsake the friend slot, even though I've got a bunch of whales for friends (500 attack Chorizo, 400 attack dual wielding barrage Bartz with Gungnir and Excalibur).
Having Ifrit on Celes seems like a waste, but my only physical attackers are Locke, who doesn't do a lot of damage, and Hayate, who's a donut (and I can just give Murasame to Warrior of Light).

Celes actually has an acceptable attack and magic, so using her to spam Raging Fist when you don't need to buff works pretty well, with Ifrit she will also have Fira so she can elemental chain with both Ice and Fire magic, just be sure to give her Hero Rings.

Keep in mind a great deal of Garland's market value is shot down in global. JP loves him because in 6* he can stack Doublehand 5 times to hit over 1000 ATK easy.

In GL, he won't even hit half of that amount because of the materia stacking "balance"

So you'd ideally want to give him Dual Wield instead, which would completely waste his innate talents and make him the worst of our current batch of top tier 6* atackers. So still amazing, but not as amazing as JP makes him out to be.

Having spent some time now with FF12 IZJS, I've decided that vanilla FF12 was better. IZJS does one neat thing (a turbo button to make occasional grinding or backtracking easier, something I also liked in the HD versions of FFX and FFX-2), but makes the game a lot less interesting. At its best moments, 12 was all about using the freedom the game gave you to try different things: different combinations of armor and characters and weapons and powers could all interact in interesting ways, and the game wanted you to make choices: you've only got enough license points to pick one of two new spells, you've got a new piece of equipment so who should get it, etc. IZJS doesn't let you make any decisions. You only make one choice - character classes. You make that choice once, and then you're locked into it for the rest of the game. The license boards within those classes are both narrowly focused and very linear. Sure, at the end of the game you might get to use a summon to unlock bombs for your red mage, or greatswords for your white mage, but the boards are small and the license points abundant so you just end up filling all your license squares and waiting to find the spells and equipment to fill them. You never make any choices: every Samurai is the same, every White Mage is the same, etc. It's really boring.

Also I had never really realized how much slower and more subdued it is in than the last like five games before it. It's most like FF6 in its pacing, which is probably why I liked it, but even 6 had a lot more weird crazy boss battles and such. I can definitely understand why it wouldn't grab people who wanted a more Final Fantasy-ish experience. It stands out a lot.

Mobile bros, I've got two questions.

In RK, i've put off the FF9 U/U+ and need to clear those tonight. I don't think it's worth my time trying for the Cid Mission for U, as if I fuck it up, I'm out more stamina than the orb is worth. The U+ is a different story though. I have bad relics for Steiner & Vivi, and Garnet's Hastega/Regen/Resistance SSB. Is my best bet for U+ CM to try and cheese it with Rinoa's BSSB as my RW?

In Mobius, I've been farming water pupu, but my water 4* is capped out. Any reason to not switch to farming fire? I would trade the water pupu in my deck for fire, for the 25% resist. Currently auto'ing as a 3* white mage and getting either 6x or 9x seeds.

In Vanilla, everybody ends up exactly the same because there's no reason to make decisions.
"Do I unlock this weaker node or the stronger one first?" is not a lasting decision, and inevitably there are no opportunity costs. There's nothing to sacrifice other than time, so there's nothing to really decide.

IZJS has nearly unlimited approaches, and to this day there is no one single strategy that's better than all the others. In Vanilla, you have a very clear understanding of how to maximize your units, and it's a very linear progression.

The series hasn't had that kind of freedom of choice since FFII, except it doesn't have retarded SaGa bullshit.
It's very WRPG in that you need multuiple playthroughs to really appreciate the depth of the class system.
Opportunity costs equal decisions, and vanilla has none.

You have to specialize in Vanilla until the endgame, because of equipment/gil/LP limitations. That's another reason I don't think the job system adds much. You're making decisions about what you want right away, not just all game. Sure, if you know the whole system already you can make all your decisions ahead of time because you know what's optimal or how to break it, but for a first-time player (which is how FF games should be measured, because they are 60-90 hour games and the vast majority of players won't replay them much) vanilla 12 is more interesting because there are choices to be made and things to be discovered. Sure, some of those discoveries are how weird the game's systems are, like the fact that offensive magic kind of sucks due to the way it will only animate one spell on-screen at a time, but you can keep attacking the whole time a spell is going off, but that (and many 12 problems) are because for some reason they wanted it to be on PS2. Also the game's director left about two-thirds of the way through creation, which didn't help. But again, the IZJS doesn't fix those problems.

But the game floods you with LP, and Vanilla never provides you with enough of a challenge to make diverging out different characters ever worthwhile.
In vanilla it's basically buy three duplicates of the best weapons/armors in each town and then buy the licenses until the endgame, where you might finally start to diverge based on equipment scarcity.
A diverse team is more of a drawback than a benefit for 99% of the game.

Nobody ever uses rods or staffs in vanilla, even in a mage build. The bonus is so marginal that they're worthless. Same goes for bombs, measures, daggers...etc.
And vanilla had no endgame, so even if you did want to test out special builds you had nothing to do it on.

In Vanilla, there is a hard right answer and a hard wrong answer to character builds.
Picking the wrong answer isn't a decision.

Also, you can actually cast multiple spells at once depending on what they are. They take up a certain number of units depending on what they are.
And that wasn't just a hardware limitation, because some very simple animations have some very high unit costs, while some very complex ones are free. It was a design choice that makes you strategize more around what spells to use when.

Summoned jobs are better than starter jobs, use whatever you enjoy most. I usually prioritize spending skillseeds on HP first (and clutch heal/barrier if your job has them) since bad rng will fuck up your ability to heal, then atk/mag/break, then whatever.
