She pulls it out of hammerspace, although the other characters are guilty of doing this with the chaos emeralds. I think in Sonic X Amy actually makes it appear with poof clouds and everything.
Also it is magical, it's a piko hammer that makes toy noises and is capable of taking down mechs.
I'd be up for Amy doing more, but I liked the direction the comics took with her, even the MegaDrive one.

The original Metal Sonic's AI went rogue after he was defeated. Many years later, he decided to bully Sonic and Tails for the fuck of it. Sonic's determination to save Tails changed his heart and he sacrificed himself to save the duo from a volcano eruption. Many years later, after the switch to Ian, he was rebuilt by Uncle Chuck to be part of the Secret Freedom Fighters under the name of Shard (because of the power crystal in his chest).
He got pendered because his AI went rogue long before Ian came into the picture, despite technically being the original Metal Sonic.

He was the original Metal Sonic from Archie's Sonic CD adaption. He came back with a Power Gem upgrade during the Knuckles Chaotix and got destroyed by a giant Knuckles.
He was able to rebuild himself with the power gem and gave him a new cocky personality, fought Sonic and trapped Tails in a volcano, but had a change of heart and sacrificed himself in a similar fashion to the OVA ending.
Many years later, he got rebuilt by Uncle Chuck with a new paintjob as part of a secret freedom fighter team with Silver, Larry Lynx, Elias, Leeta, and Lyco. He had a fun dynamic with Silver and Larry, had a crush on Nicole, and just a fun personality that was similar to Sonic's.
He got destroyed by Metal Sonic the issue right before the reboot and was erased due to the power gem being introduced by Penders.

If I were in charge of making a trio of Sonic movies they would play out as such

It's nice as a mechanic for gameplay, but I feel like it'd be too many hoops to jump through for what it's worth. The villains would of course be Metal Sonic and Eggman. Sonic and Tails fight to save a mysterious world near Mobius (yes it's Mobius it's not "Sonic's World" SEGA goddammit) while Amy Rose stows away but is kidnapped. At the end Eggman's roboticizer malfunctions and transforms Little Planet intoThe Death Egg. Sonic goes super and destroys it to save the world.

Adaptation of Sonic 3 and Chuckles. Metal Sonic is badly damaged and Eggman defeated, with the Death Egg falling from the sky.
