I got one of the 6-stage invasion weapons, one agi staff from brewmaster and 2 of the axes for windwalker.

How hard is it to get more than one artifact weapon because I want to play disc priest but holy is better at healing shitters and panic healing people who are prone to fuck up. So I don't know if I should start with the holy one or disc one.

You get consumables that add artifact power. When you use them, the AP is added to whatever weapon you have equipped. Just about every activity gets you these consumables; they even randomly drop off of mobs.

There's no lockout that I know of, it just starts to take a fuckton of AP after about half way.

You can do research in your order hall that increases your AP gain. These orders take 5 days to start with but will start declining with time. The AP gain ramps up a lot too, so you'll easily be able to power through your off spec weapons after a couple of weeks into the xpac. Raids are fun/comfy when you do them with your friends. There are only two kinds of people you'll meet in current day WoW:

The reddit-tier social guild full of stay-at-home moms and nursing students who might actually be friendly and welcoming but will struggle to complete a raid-finder wing, nevermind an actual raid.

And the autistic raiding guild that's so completely 1200% cliquish that it makes high-school jocks seem inclusive. You'll have to link mythic achieves for them to so much as look at you (not that they have those achievements themselves, they just want to be carried), and the inner circle will still be off-limits, mostly because they're using it to talk shit about you.

The best thing about any MMO is the community, and WoW's community is dead. Blizzard took careful steps to methodically kill it, all so that the friendless loser can get in dungeons and see epics and trick himself into thinking he's accomplishing things and having fun.

I got some 720 pieces and I can pull sweet numbers as DPS in mythics.
It's not the 70k of tier geared people postpatch, but I can pull a decent 40-42k on most mythic single target bosses at 705.

If you have a friend who's a healer, piggyback as a DPS into H HFC.

Getting defensive stats from offensive stats isnt actually that great as it DRs your actual defensive stat items. DKs used to get (dunno if they still do) Parry from STR. instead of the baseline 5% so youd start out with like 8-9% parry vs the 5% Pallies and Wars got. The problem was, as you got gear, the paladins and warriors would actually overtake you as you already had 8% of parry from converted STR into Parry rating, So 80 parry on an item would be way weaker on a DK.

Unless they changed the coding, it will be the same this time. However it does mean DPS geared people can switch to tanking far easier and DPS tanking used to be pretty fun.

I'm not sure how it's done now, but I was informing him of how they've decided to do it because as you prooooobably know, they removed gear that has 'parry' and 'dodge' rating.

I mean, look through N/H BRF and HFC gear and you won't find a piece with dodge or parry or block as a flat skill number. It may be in the effects of trinkets, though. They had bonus armor but they removed that along with spirit.

Every class has their own way of turning a stat or two into defensive stats now, I think. For a lot it's Mastery, it's also Mastery for DH but there's crit, too.

I was looking to get back into WoW. I haven't played since early WotLK, and always found the greatest joy in leveling new alt characters.

I booted up the game to try those 20 free levels - and the game simply isn't there anymore. Level 1 through 15 was basically walking around and one/two-shotting mobs. When I went into the dungeon finder, my party outran me while killing everything before I could even reach enemies to get a hit in. They made fun of my lack of heirlooms and then proceeded to kick me from the group, reason: slow

That's the way the game is now. It's a rush to level 100. Don't bother questing and just grind away (hey, just like vanilla?) until your dungeon queue pops. Just run as close as you can to whoever you feel is dishing out the most damage. Try to stay in the clump and no one will notice your lack of contribution unless you say something or they keep fapping over the DPS meter.

If you want a slower paced experience - private servers are your only option.

Obviously, I did the Broken Shore event. I knew Vol’jin would die going in. I saw his casket datamined months ago. It hurt my heart, because at one point it seemed as if he’d just gone missing and Sylvanas snatched the Warchief position in his absence.

This knowledge didn’t help me.

I felt extremely anxious during the event and once the cutscenes started playing, I felt empty. And angry. And I slumped into a depression after watching my favorite character for the past 11 or so years die unceremoniously, and his death be about another character.

The trolls now have no characters of any import. None. After 11 years, they’ve never developed any Darkspear characters who’ve done anything. Sure, I can name a few NPCs. But they don’t have anything behind them. A few sentences at most to describe them. Most troll content that has been added to the game has been from the villains.

Thinking about Broken Shore turns my stomach. I don’t want vengeance for the Burning Legion killing the Warchief, a faceless felguard running him through. It doesn’t feel like the Burning Legion killed him. The writers did. It’s paper thin enough I can’t be fooled into thinking it’s anything else than Vol’jin losing a popularity contest to waifu bait Sylvanas.

I still feel sick and sad and angry when I think of WoW. I’m cancelling my sub for the time being, because right now, I can’t see a reason to play. I don’t have any faith in Blizzards storytelling anymore. Trolls have nothing. Vol’jin’s death was terribly written. Sylvanas is NOT someone I want to follow after having to deal with another selfish, homicidal maniac who only cared about their race….

Perhaps I will write something more coherent later.

The thing that honestly sucks most about the death of Vol’jin is that I don’t want vengeance. Vengeance against who? A random felguard? The legion in general? Vengeance over a character who I loved and was tossed aside not by the legion, but by the writer’s and their need to give us a warchief every new expansion?

I want to quit playing. I want to ignore the Legion entirely, because why bother? And even if there is some coup de grace and Vol’jin comes back to life to be some neutral awesome-sauce character…

I wanted him as my fucking Warchief. I wanted him to DO something as warchief. I want a Horde character who represents the heart and ideals of the Horde, how Horde is FAMILY, and I want him to be our leader. Not a neutral leader, a HORDE leader.

Why would I want empty vengeance against pixels in the game when the true horrible thing that happened is how the writers handled a beloved character? Why would I want to support such writers?

There is enough else about WoW that is keeping me playing, but honestly? I’ll probably be taking frequent breaks going forward. And right now I find it impossible to play any of my Horde characters- exception being my demon hunter who had no idea about Vol’jin. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t even be playing now.

Storylines aren’t supposed to demoralize you like this. In a game about war, they aren’t supposed to make you want to throw down your weapons and walk away.

And now I just got a leader who didn’t give a shit about the Horde except for what it could do for her until, apparently, recently. Which, made her a fascinating character in her own right, but does not earn her as a place as a Warchief.

As more and more of my initial hype wears off, I start getting angrier. I’ve had a strong Alliance bias since wee little me played vanilla WoW way back in the day, and from there went on to eventually explore the older RTS games, the novels, etc. But I’m also a bi-factional sort of person in any faction based game I play and so I’ve always had max level Horde characters there along with my Alliance ones.

I have no complaints about the direction Blizzard is taking the Alliance in Legion. Varian’s story arc came to a satisfying, badass, and tragic end and I’m excited to see Anduin get a chance for more development as he steps into the role of king. Furthermore I’m obnoxiously hype to see Genn Greymane and the Gilneans being aggressive assholes towards the Forsaken, seeking vengeance for everything that’s been taken from them. In general it’s just kind of nice to have an “Alliance shot first” scenario where usually–and let’s be frank here–the Horde are the biggest dicks in the room.

The Horde on the other hand, that’s…more of a mixed bag for me.

It’s hard not to be cynical. Vol’jin’s death was trite and rushed and it just kind of feels like they brushed him aside so they could put their hot waifu bait on a pedestal instead. Sylvannas as Warchief is something I should be a lot more excited about–because I do love her as a character–but it was so rushed and unsatisfying that I can’t be.

The whole thing’s just a fucking mess and I can’t find any silver lining in it, except for maybe the intrigue I have for the Gilneas vs Forsaken thing (and let’s be honest, Sylvannas didn’t need to become Warchief for that arc to happen). Vol’jin became Warchief at a time where the Horde desperately needed somebody who embodied what the New Horde was supposed to represent back when Thrall first founded it. Blizzard subsequently hyped the fuck out of him, giving fans of troll lore some much needed attention. Hell, when we knew far less about Legion, Blizzard even said that Vol’jin was “missing in action”, leading people to believe that he was kidnapped, or that he’d gone undercover, or something. That he was MIA, not fucking dead, and that Sylvannas taking the role of Warchief was a temporary mantle.

Then he just…dies. He dies in the most unceremonious way they could conjure up. In fact it’s so shitty that the Broken Shore cinematic for the Horde focuses more on Varian’s death than Vol’jin’s. Just think about that for a minute. Let it sink in. To make matters worse, leading up to the cinematic, there’s a whole lot of fun banter between Varian and…Sylvannas. The Alliance forces treat Sylvannas like she’s already in charge, even though the Warchief is right there. The intro cinematic for Legion focuses on Varian and…Sylvannas. Not Vol’jin. Not the Warchief of the Horde. They couldn’t even give him a proper final hurrah, they were so eager to brush him off. Vol’jin’s death felt more like the death of a minor character than somebody as fundamentally important to the Horde as he was.

The Broken Shore scenario starts, Vol’jin gets a couple of throwaway lines, then he gets stabbed in the back by some nameless trash mob and dies of poison on his throne.

Poison. That thing that Blizzard dedicated an entire novel to Vol’jin not dying from.

I know it’s silly to get this wound up about the lore in a game that I love and am going to play anyway, and honestly my enthusiasm for Legion outweighs my negativity, despite how angry this all is. But I can’t get over this, I can’t feel as excited for Sylvannas being Warchief as I should be. Up until now she’s never really been a “For the Horde” type as much as a “For the Forsaken, fuck the rest of you” type. And with the incredibly brutal methods of war she’s willing to employ–the plague, raising fallen enemies as Forsaken, etc–thing, things that even made Garrosh fucking Hellscream cringe, it feels like the Horde are regressing instead of progressing. When I play the Horde, I want to feel like an outcast in a dysfunctional family, banding together for survival, not a fucking monster.

I actually miss Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria, because at least when Garrosh was in charge, Blizzard created a fascinating and tense atmosphere within the Horde and gave the trolls an exciting and prominent role in the story where they’d been lacking before.
