At least you choices mattered in epilogue slides and even somehow affected the world. Hell, you can see the consequences of the Landsmeet or Dark Ritual even in DAI as a part of the main quest.

Technically speaking, DAI is pretty short. It's just very broad. If you farm Requisitions to unlock each main quest, the game is substantially shorter than it feels when you get bogged down in side quests and companion quests and exploration.

If it's posessed at all, the spirit (or whatever semblance of it darkspawn have) has been relinquished at least temporarily to the fade spirit. I assume it's the same, if the darkspawn mage isn't strong enough to get control back it turns into a blighted abomination. That said, the spirit could maybe even become contaminated via the taint and other weird shit happen because of that. Maybe that's similar to how blight magic is used.

Carth wasn't exactly the strong suit of the game. It has some things on Kotor 2 despite being worse in MOST ways. Besides Carth, the party members were a bit more likeable even if they had less interaction - Mission, Zaalbar and Jolee were lighthearted and fun while being varied, instead of all angsty drama queens with dark pasts or just plain insufferable pricks. Even tormenting Bastila was more fun than a conversation with fucking Atton or Mira.

A Disney-tier villain plotline is also pretty nice to go back to in a Star Wars story, and "you were Revan all along" is still better than "you are the specialest person who ever fucking lived and the source of all the magic in everyone you know including the previous game's Big Deals".

Taris and Manaan being really interesting and unique places is another reason to replay. Both games had good locations and settings to explore.

And lastly the game balance doesn't get QUITE as ridiculously busted as in the sequel, but neither is particularly salvagable in that department due to mass-disables whose DCs scale 1:1 with level and by two attributes together (against defenses that AT BEST will scale by 1 per 2 levels and by 1 attribute).
