My favorite movie is Vanilla Sky. I like the movie because I feel that I can relate with the main character a lot. One comment that will stick with me for life would be one thing a friend told me. He said that I would push off a girl when she has her vagina eight on my dick, right before penetration, because of some bullshit reason I choose to believe at the moment. He said I had a perfect life and I would never get married because I was the type of guy to just sleep with women as I pleased. I took a bit of offense to that because I thought he meant I would never find a woman who would want to marry me. Yet, here I am, nearly 30 years old with no wife and living alone.

That was mainly due to deep seated psychological issues that took a few years with a few years help a rather expensive psychatrist. I was not disfigured from a crazy fuck buddy, but she help destroy my life from the past 2 years and I became a recluse as a result. This was also a bit of a part of a love triangle where the woman I really cared about ended up going for a good friend of mine.

At any rate I really like the movie. If I could I would choose to live in stasis until technology improves enough to get rid of my mental illness with a shot to the arm. Unfortunately I am not ultra rich. Perhaps I will be when may parents die. Until then I'll just drown all my sorrows in booze.

So what is quantum tunnelling percisely? Well, quantum tunelling is the phenomenon of a particle seeemingly magically transporting through a barrier. On the macroscopically improbable scale, id would be you literally warping through a wall. This does not occur on the macroscopic level so why does it happen with tiny particles? Well, this is due to particle-wave duality (which is a rather shit explination of how things work in our world, IMO, but it is the best we got). I will not go into the particle wave duality and the famous dual slit experiment, but after like a quick 5 second youtube search I found a video that I *think* explains it without being ultra dry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ORLN_KwAgs I'm being honest because I did skip through it but the author doesn't appear to be ultra formal with its sources and shit, and focused on making the material interesting while still teaching the lesson. Something that I found very effective in my few years of teaching. Formality is only for peers, and is part of the whole convoluted system that kinda kills the purity of the scientific process. But that is a rant for another day...

Since so many people thought imaginary numbers were nonesense for many years, many people didnt think much of them. However it wasnt until about 2 centuries ago where people started taking imaginary numbers seriously in mathematics, and a century ago where people started using them in physics. Electrical engineers use imaginary numbers to explain electromagnetic phenomenon (the imaginary plane can be thought of the magnetic field and the real is the eletric field in a way), and video game developers use quaternions to rotate stuff in 3d space. I think quaternions and higher dimensioal rotations are ultra sweet (quaternions use 3 dimensions in the imaginary world!), but I said I'll chill on the math.

Lets go back to a particle hitting a barrier. Since our particles are represented by these wave functions, it would make sense that when the particle hits the barrier, the amplitude of the wave function will decrease expontentially, right? However, we cannot make the wave function 0 because cos(x) + i*sin(x) does not equal 0 in the domain of the Z. Since the wave function does not actually ever reach an amplitude of zero, the wave fucntion will be nonzero on the other side of the barrier. ONce the function exits the barrier, the wave function doesnt decay, which results in a nonzero probability of the particle existing on the other side of the barrier. This may seem like some hocus pocus mathematical bullshit, but experiments verify that the mathematics explain reality. The reason I love this phenomenon is that seemingly exploits a quirk in mathematics to make weird real life results. I liek to use quantum tunnelling as an example of how math helps explain the world as we know it, but since mathematics is just a tool for insight, it alone doesn't explain what really is going on.

I hate how people say mathematics is something the universe owns and we just discover the math one peice at a time. No, that is bullshit. We learn more about the universe and use math to help prove our findings. If you find some weird stuff that makes sense in math and the real world it is still up to you to find out how the fuck any of that shit makes sense.
