My preferred way is that you have Real World Map as default, but also have the option to randomize the "New World". That way you can perhaps build upon the generator.

Shuffle the location of "new world" factions

>Proc Gen 2:
Randomize the factions that can appear. Add the default factions and also some "fictional" nations. For example if your "new world" is Americas, include "Norse Tribe" as a rare possible faction. Or a "New Egypt" (one Egyptian pharao made an exodus to god knows where IRL, perhaps he went to America in that possible scenario).

Simulate a bit of history for them to make their situation look more "logical" and "believable".

Found a way to reduce the amount of platforms in the game, while keeping the levels look exactly the same. Before, each level contained an average of about 850 platforms. With this new method, I've reduced it to about half that, and the level still looks the exact same.

Fuck Autodesk software. It's the most buggy, resource hogging and unintuitive professional software I've ever used, and I've used a lot from a variety of different media industries. I'm seriously just going to learn Blender and be done with it no subscription there either.

Not really. People use GLFW instead of SDL to set up their context and get basic input/window events because SDL does too much, GLFW just does the basics.

It's unintuitive and it looks cluttered, that's probably the main reason for me.

The left-click doesn't do what you'd normally assume, neither does the right-click.
Just starting it up now, I can't even resize the a basic cube in one direction without googling how to do so.

What about the setting first over a mechanic? For example what style will the game be, what will be the general architecture, looks etc. Will there be indoor levels, outdoor ones. what enemies? Mechanical, humanoid, beasts etc. What will the theme be.

Should I atleast get a rough estimate of this before doing mechanics, or again, just worry about the mechanics first and then try to build a setting around it?

Never said it's a bad program. It's as good as any 3D modelling program for all I know.

If a new user starts up a program can't use it for basic functionality, it's probably because the program wasn't designed to function intuitively.

Once you master it, sure, it might be great. But you're going to put off a lot of people with just having unintuitive design.

My personal mentality is "Each project is an excuse to learn and grow".
I don't really go in planning to finish them so much as to at least take something new from the project, after I've learned to use it pretty well, that I can carry on to future projects.

How about a larger transparent texture that sits right on the sprite you have there. When that particular animation is played, it also attaches the larger frame with just the ribbon extension, and gets removed when the animation ends. To that end, you can then use that rope at the end as a separate layer, and the char will simply spin around on the layer over.

Layering the rope will allow you to freely adjust long it can get.

Layering the ribbon just past the hand will allow you to go wild with the motion.

It might not look pretty in a gif as 3 parts, but you're definitely going to use it in a 2d game, so it won't stay a .gif forever right?

Progress, finally settled on a bullet pattern for my skull enemies. They fire randomly in a 180 degree arc behind them and then the bullets snap directly downwards. Took a while to balance them, but right now it's at a point where they're scary in groups or mixed with other things but fairly trivial on their own

I don't want to make a game that is just helping run the shop and shitty home improvement. I have tried to think of a third aspect, something to latch onto, and most of my ideas feel retarded. They include:

>character is a med student anyway so essentially a trauma surgeon section where you try and save the lives of injured members of the cell

I have actually put some thought into the second. Fucking up and letting them die means they are gone, and thus you can not complete their story arcs. You sometimes have to help people caught in the crossfire.

My other thought is doing A BIT OF BOTH.

Honestly please tell me I am retarded, or tell me which to go with, because I have been doing documentation for both and it is hurting my actual dev (writing character dialogue).

Improved turret targeting for ballistics, it now calculates lead to target accurately and shoots a lot more aggressively. It also takes weapon spread into account and tries to avoid targets with a very low chance of hitting.

It's not great at predicting target movement, but then again it's not really possible to do perfectly. The autocannons still manage to kill a few fighters now, when before they were basically useless against fast targets. Beam targeting is also a bit broken now, they try to fire at targets past their maximum range.

You, the player, must explore and dig into the city you're in to take photos. Over time you uncover the horrible conspiracy plaguing the town. During this you receive mysterious letters asking for specific pictures, promising large spikes in followers.

The gameplay of Silent Hill isn't unique to the series. You just need to think of a really good story to tell and avoid setting it in a contemporary, abandoned spooky town.

Your best bet (imo) is to set it in the past. Victorian/Industrial revolution/whatever. Instant unique flair to a genre that has been beaten into the fucking ground. Silent HIll did Past Life which has some interesting imagery in a generic SH2 ripoff story if you want some inspiration.

From there you have to navigate the great game and make hard choices, such as bonding with your own parasite. This leads into the higher stakes of an international war brewing, and then what lies behind that of a manipulating puppet force trying to cause the downfall of both. Literally the preface with this was VN story elevator pitches. Where the fuck else am I supposed to post about VN dev.

And I have written books before, three finished manuscripts under my belt. I'm writing one right now. I honestly don't think I am good enough for novel format, and honestly? Most publishers put you in debt and have you sign away your entire creative soul. VN dev is more fun, has more waifus, and lets me do things for myself in an industry where self-publishing isn't suicide.

Both ideas are OK.
Although i cant see it being executed without having your main character being dragged in to a story and not actually experiencing and influencing it.

The first one smells like it shared an elevator with Mirrors edge and Normality.

The second one sounds like a dark brotherhood quest line for an Elder Scrolls game. Why would I play this game when Oblivion is already out?

I can definitely see that. There is a difference between feeling you're in the back seat for THE RIDE, and being at the steer wheel.

Honestly I have some ideas for the minimal amounts of gameplay. On one end I don't want too much gameplay as it is a VN, on the other I still want to gamedev. For the first one I looked towards resource management for the terrorist group you are a part of. Forced to make hard decisions on who lives or dies & what not. For the other turn based combat system and making it more RPG like rather than a VN.

Only reason I can think of is because Elder Scroll's writing is absolute horse shit. Or because you prefer turn based play or the VN format.

You should at least read up on formalities plot,an adventure game it was released in like 1996 and ran on DOS. I don't recommended actually playing it since I'm sure 2.5 D causes bowel cancer in millennial.
Mirrors edge is basically the same thing but a bit less 90s and a bit more if the Queen still ruled over the United States. As it stands you might want to read up on said plot as well. maybe read some George Orwell if you haven't already. Read up on Shadowrun .Watch Equilibrium, V is for Vendetta get you fix of oppressive governments and than world build. Because the core idea seems kinda samey and the field topic is kinda saturated.

As it stands I think the second idea is stronger and more original. But i'd like to hear more abut it.

Does anyone here use MakeHuman? Is there any reason not to?

It's not the end solution for character creation of course, but it's a great starting point that avoids a lot of bullshit steps in modeling. Also for stuff like making a bunch of enemy variations and then retargeting them it would be pretty quick.
