Technically it doesn't matter, whenever you feed the exact same weapon it says something about "level limit increased" right after.
I've always feed it at +30 though, gets approximately 1 level every time, not sure if it's the same at lower levels.

Saiki would be cheaper to get done up. For Austere; you'll be paying a good amount of Meseta for the two most useful unit pieces (rear + weapon set is just tank stats and dex), not to mention 150 nero and 150 other stone.

Saiki will do you well until you eventually want pick up Austere units.

Barebones tree. HU tree is whatever your personal taste would be (Automate, Iron Will, MH etc).

FI tree depends on what you want to focus on.
Stronger mobbing? Pick up Chase.
Small increase overall? PP Slayer

PD is mostly just heavily using Fall Nocturne (webm) since PD's parts don't really move too much and are large. It's real safe as well because almost nothing can hit you if you're at the top of their hitboxes. Double is entirely Knuckle w/ Flicker+BHS (Knuckle Chase too) until the tongue comes out and then I swap to TD. If the spinning wall attack happens then I swap to DS and do what I did in the webm posted before. I usually stick to the Wise Stance parts on Double because most MPAs tend to smother the Brave ones and it's pointless being there, a personal damage loss since I only have 5/10 Wise but I don't really care too much.

I mean, if I want to be super broad I can say that Knuckle is Flicker>BHS, TD is Rhapsody>Orchestra and DS (mobbing) is Tornado Dance and Chaos Riser spam but that's obviously not the case most of the time. If a PA can hit a part that most other PAs can't, then you would use that. An example being BHS or Deadly Archer on Banther's face.

Knuckle Sway (weapon action) is mostly a newbie trap because it's better to use Step, Ducking Blow, Pendulum Roll or Heartless Impact to avoid attacks. The only time you ever want to use it is to cancel your PAs or anytime you want to avoid something without moving from your spot (almost never). You can Sway into a BHS on Elder's palm push and counter-attack instantly instead of using something else to avoid it.

I would recommend using every PA just to learn what their hitboxes and general utility are like even if it's a DPS loss because eventually you will find out what can be used. For example, a lot of people tend to avoid Slide Upper (Type-0 included) because of BHS or other PAs but you can hit something like De Malmoth's weakpoint with it because the hitbox extends upwards and it's the only Knuckle PA that does.

It's just a matter of trying things out and not trying to copy what everyone else is doing. Like in this webm, I always thought to myself that it kinda sucked that I was losing Tech Arts when Magatsu falls down so I tried a bunch of things and eventually found a good way to deal with it that isn't very hard to do. This doesn't apply to FI specifically as well, the same thing can be done with any other class. I've never really asked anyone for FI help because I always tried to work around any problems I had myself.

Double Saber can do great damage (lowest out of the 3 FI weapons most of the time) and is very efficient on bosses but there's a ton of issues. A good chunk of damage is from Illusion Rave and canceling that at anytime is a huge DPS loss so Massive Hunter would be something that can help there. Double Saber's gapclosing outside of Charged Tornado Dance's range is shitty and somewhat slow. Aerial play is kinda annoying as well because there's no proper height gainer except for canceled Surprise Dunks which eats your gear but it's usually fine if you don't need height. It feels very clunky and it can be hard to tell if you're doing decent damage when needed because of all the fucking numbers everywhere.

Don't be afraid of picking up HU's defensive stuff, they don't really affect how you play except for Massive Hunter.

Step attack with Knuckle Chase. If you're getting hit, try to look at what Double is doing before acting, I usually run straight under it if I feel like it's about to spin. I try to keep an ear out for the cars but sometimes there's nothing that can be done if they decide to explode on you and spawn a panic pool just as they reach you.

I used it a lot when I first started with Knuckle but I eventually realized that it's sorta pointless to do. I saw that most of the time I would use Step right after a Sway because whatever attack I was trying to avoid moved the boss somewhere outside of Knuckle's range so it was redundant. Why risk using Sway when Step's i-frames are 3x longer? It does depend on the boss though, Banther and Dragon Ex are bosses where Sway is generally okay to use.

Nothing stopping you from using Sway if you want to use it. I still do it a lot even if it's during a stupid time because it feels great being stupid.

Could you go in depth on how to properly use TDs? I recently picked them up, but sm finding it difficult to use. I seem to constantly fail to home in certain targets with Symphonic Drive, particularly Ragne's head core, I even try Z-target it's general location but that rarely ever works. Regularly miss JAs between PAs like Wild Rhapsody-0 > Orchestra and missing my attacks in general since I end up elevating above my target with Symphonic.

Besides my shitty, play, are there any particular bosses that TD would be ideal to use?

General rule is that if you can't use BHS without too much effort then TD or DS will be better and the other most obvious rule being if you need to hit something that's higher than you can jump then TD is best. Anything that attacks at a somewhat frequent rate will benefit Knuckle more than the other two. TD does have guard frames on everything but it's unreliable and unreasonable to try to utilize.

I obviously can't help if you are missing JAs but I personally never use my eyes to time my JAs for any weapon. I rely purely on muscle memory and the SFX from the PAs themselves but the former is mostly from having lots of playtime.

This webm is a bit extreme for someone that just started but this is basically how TD Chase is meant to be used. Might be a bit hard to catch but it's the lock-on just after Ragne stops. Fall Nocturne in the webm is a flub so ignore that.

When you fight Ragne, you want to lock-on to the flat platform and use S.Drive there instead of firing it at the core. It will still hit the core but it will put you in a much better position no matter which side you come from. You usually want to stay near the center of Ragne and trying not to hug the core because being too close to the core will hit the head mantle thing instead.

Rhapsody mostly takes care of any small movements that you need to do. TD Chase is generally used as a free gapclose or when something is out of S.Drive range.

Z-targeting S.Drive is also very useful and I suggest you keep trying it. Magatsu is a very good practise dummy for Z-target S.Drives so you should try it on him if you ever get the chance to. You don't have to hit the target directly, you only need to reach the target. Don't be scared to cancel out of S.Drive's backwards launch with Spin even if it drops Tech Arts, eventually you will know when and where you can let it run the full duration.

Zesh's head is a nice place to practise most things TD related, equip a terrible TD and don't use stances.

Most of your time is spent positioning yourself but TD also does damage at the same time, it's a strong weapon because of this. There's not really anything in the game that is comparable to what TD Chase can do because of the lock-on mechanic.

S.Drive or Quick March are generally what you use as a starter. Jump > Spin > S.Drive/Quick March or double Spin > S.Drive/March while grounded for full gear.

I would ignore Fall Nocturne at first until you get used to controlling your height with March or S.Drive for your Orchestra and Rhapsody positioning but Fall Nocturne is incredible for the weapon as a whole and definitely try to get to it as soon as possible. It's mostly because Fall Nocturne is affected by TD Chase so it gives TD a reasonable follow-up after S.Drive if something is moving constantly. The rest is knowing the PA hitboxes and finding out what should be used. There's way too many things to list so I can't really type them out, sorry.

Use this Wonda at the start of Amd TA (pull him to the rock) if you want to practise JA timings but try not to hit it through the shield.

The majority of them I actually came across them while playing regularly in random quests. I don't really have a specific place where I try them. When I was doing any sort of quest, I would use the PA and try to guard with it where I think it would be after having it accidentally happen beforehand. Most TD guard frames are only 2-4F long and none of them are at the very start of the PA like Heartless Impact is so it's way too hard to time properly.

Dragon Ex attacks are easy to time so sometimes I would use him and intentionally use a PA early or delay it to get a general gist of the area.

S.Drive if you want to instantly go back to where you started but it's usually a DPS loss. If you're not going straight to the floor then you don't actually lose much height at all, you can see it here >>151810352. One Quick March + Shoot Polka is enough to regain all the height you lost after a usual use of it and most of the time you do follow-up with a Quick March but you don't have to. Fall Nocturne can put you at the very lowest point of the ground (depending on when you JA) that you can be where using a normal attack will ground you, PAs will never do it so you can beat up something real low like Ringahda's core somewhat easily while not actually being on the floor.

Knuckle is better for Double because it does keep moving. Knuckle's speed is amazing, TD and DS can't really compare. The ball hitboxes aren't that small, they're not any worse than hitting an Oodan or anything similar.

Any tips for locking on? I always lock the wrong part and never seen to get the right part even after tabbing a few times. Meduna for example. I'm having problem with locking on the neck/heart part even when he's down. It always goes to the hands or other parts.

If lock-on fails, use TPS to put yourself in a better position where lock-on will work. Meduna is something where you can TPS S.Drive pretty much anywhere on the top-half and get a good chance at getting the head lock-on.

You mentioned it but Tab is decent when you find out what it's going to cycle to. Gamepads have it way easier because they can cycle through the all parts with the Analog stick lock-on whereas Tab only cycles between the 2 closest ones.
