this was prob posted in previous thread but there is an experimental beta patch available on steam

https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/7/360672304897578119/

just in game's properties on steam enter private beta access code: 3xperimental

click check code and then select experimental from the drop down menu to opt in

You weren't very smart in 2013, were you?
>>
>>151727167
an unfair reply, there's a discrepancy between the milestones, if it takes 30 minutes to get the sentinel/words ones maxed, and takes about 3 hours to get the walking one maxed, but takes 10+ hours of standing to get the hostile planet milestone, that's poor design
on a game with already minimal design

It's extremely unlikely that one would finish this milestone in normal gameplay due to it's literal time based mechanic. It doesn't even tell you how long a fucking sol is.
>>
Reminder that maximum amount of units one can have is 2,147,483,647 before it overflows into the negatives. This means that adding freighters with more storage capacity seems like a lie because that would probably put them in the 500m to 1000m unit range if you compare with 48 slot ships. The margin until overflow is just too low.

Honestly the only thing that could save this game would be steam workshop mod support.

Did you try using one of those beam outposts that find shelters etc? That freezes hazard meters. Not sure if it stops time. If it doesn't stop in game time then just use one of those outposts and go to sleep.
>>
>>151727503
yes you're gonna want the ending and pass.
>>
>>151727564
You need to be under the effects of the the hazard for it to count, meaning it has to be able to decrease one of your meters.
So the only way I've found for this to work is sadly walking into a hut for a few seconds to regain my meter then walking back out
>>
PSA: Launching from landing pads and beacons doesn't consume plutonium, so if you're hard up for the red stuff it might be worth calling your ship to one before taking off.
>>
>>151727675
You sure? I get milestones while refiling hazard shield every other minute or so depending on how extreme the world is.
>>
>>151727765
PSA, landing on pads is hard because you can't see down so 80% of the time you land 10 feet off from the pad.
>>
>>151727503
Yes. It has a separate ending so it doesn't interfere with the story after you finish it. Plus you get a shittonne of words at every interface.

Atlas Path spoiler: it's fucking nothing

Literally, I followed 10 Atlas bases till I got the 10 stones then went to the 11th base and It used up my stones to create a new "star", then pointed me to a black hole which didn't even take me to the centre or a new galaxy, it seem to be like any other black hole you'd get from any standard space anomaly.

>sell my goods in the hold, can't go anywhere else without a mulitpass that I can't buy or craft anyway
>fly off again
>land on the next planet

Uh, so what is the point of this? Do I endlessly crawl around mining shit to sell?

I also haven't figured out how to bring up a map, but that's just because I was too lazy. The retarded game should definitely show me the keybind during the beginning though.

Word of advice, don't try shooting at planes that are in atmosphere. THey just stay there and start circling you and call in sentinels after you. Fighting them in atmosphere also quite hard as you can't look down at their height, have to come in high at them and blast at them with the beam.
Killing them rewards zilch too.

higher tier stars have better planets, and you need warp drive upgrades to access them

you slot upgrades of same time connected to eachother for some kind of bonus (like all mining laser upgrades connected)

this is why the inventories of ships and multitools have different layout where the slots are, it can actually affect what you can link for bonuses

In what direction do you link the items? Horizontal, vertical, diagonal? And any guides on what you should do and shouldn't?
>>
>>151730681

No but heres a neat trick. If you let go of firing the mining beam for a moment after it heats up and then fire it again, the heat will bug out and reset back to 0 instead of picking up where it was. So when mining, just wait until heat builds up and the bar turns red, let go for half a second for the laser to turn off, then continue mining abd rinse repeat.

As a turbo autist for space sims I was so hyped for this

but the developers have missed the foundation of what makes the genre great, deep exploration mechanics and multiplayer interactivity/economies. A solo atmospheric experience is great in theory and all, but not that fun. Never mind the fact they've exposed that as a shoddy excuse by adding NPCs everywhere anyway
>>
>>151732521
I like the game but not as much as I hoped I would. I just wish there was something to break up the monotony at times like radiant quests or missions that can be obtained on spacestation bulletin boards. Another cool idea would be having the ability to send out probes to nearby star systems and report back on not-too-distant planets so you can see at a glance what kind of elements you might find. The ability to communicate with nearby ships in space would be cool. Also make certain items 'illegal' so that it's more of a risk smuggling them, with an appropriate payoff if you don't get caught.

The game is inherently flawed because

I really wish we could just build our own ships with advantages to all the parts. >>
>>151735752
You can just give it parameters that will make something that looks good most of the time.

The problems that arise with creatures, guns, vehicles, etc are that you have to actually have a bunch of parts that both look cool/interesting AND can be matched with a wide variety of other parts while still looking good (which is probably the real reason the aesthetic of Spore went from being so neat to being some cartoon garbage, that stylisation is easier to work with, and failure to meet this point is why 95% of the ships in NMS look like trash), you need either good processor-heavy procedural animation or a set list of skeletons which makes creatures end up looking kind of samey no matter what, and the more you limit what parts can coincide with other parts the less variety there is, partially defeating the point of procedural generation. As this goes (at least for creatures) I think Starbound (despite being a 2d pixel game) actually went in the right direction, introducing a bunch of presprited monsters that have a lot of character and are distinctive and recognisable, and making those about half the animal life in the game, while leaving the other half procedurally generated.

The problems with landscape mostly boil down to glitchy appearances. You either have a very "conservative" generator that makes nothing but gentle rolling hills or you have an extreme one that makes shit that is just tacky, visually unappealing and nonsensical, it's really hard to find a happy medium. That said, I would have preferred more of the latter for NMS since there's no building so no reason to really have areas that would be conducive to building on rather than just really crazy bizarre shit everywhere. Also the ribbon mountains in NMS are a really good example of a good midpoint, though those and the square plateaus are the only things like that I've seen.

I wouldn't consider that a bug or really even an exploit. It's just good movement tech. It's clearly WAD that melee moves you forward in a short charge that stacks with sprinting and also WAD that the jetpack preserves your momentum, especially as without using the boost your jetpack lasts just long enough for sprint to recharge and vice versa so it makes for effectively infinite sprinting (not to mention how angling off a rock can cause you to jetpack diagonally).

I just wish there were skiing like in Tribes. Imagine a companion module that let you ski and another that prevented falldamage

I imagine in either case the idea is that the two work in tandem but I want to know if I can use it without boltcaster. Love railguns and just using the laser and basic or damage enhanced grenades seems more efficient than using a boltcaster at all.

How did you guys setup your controls?

I'm using keaboard/mouse for exploration, with grenades on right click, and switch to Controller for flight. works farely well since you have to wait 2 secs before you are able to fly anyway. made a macro than when I press Y it holds forwards/thrust (w) 3 seconds for me. So i get in, press y and then swtich to controller and I'm in the air.

Also changed LT to Boost, RT to Shooting, and A and B for Thrust and Break. Much better flight control this way.

How would you fix No Man's Sky?

- Your own planet you can warp to at any time to decorate with all your discoveries, mixing and matching plant and animal parts yourself.

- The milestone system implemented into an XP whereby you unlock skills on a skill tree by accomplishing the milestone and then buy them with XP which you get by murdering hostile creatures. (Journey milestone = Run faster, Spacefight milestone = stronger ship cannons etc.)
This would add a little layer of extra depth on top of the artificial fucking milestone system which does nothing.
The ability to upgrade your warp drive so you can go through two or three different systems at a time.
No "This blueprint already received" messages. Instead of that message, you get 1,000 units or a higher standing with a faction or a new word.

There, it's not fixed but it's no longer awful.
>>
I pre ordered Dark souls 3, and I loved every second of it.
>>
>>151745576
Surely just having rooms inside a ship would be easier and still fit with the whole 'no fixed abode' feeling.

For me, markers you can lay down yourself. Maybe some quick keys. Some way freelook from the cockpit, or maybe a screen to show where you;re going to land.

The large asteroids can contain any rare element (one or two will predominate per system, and it's as far as I know the only place to get iridium other than trading for it) and the small asteroids contain huge amounts of thamium, which is a great fuel. Go railgun and drop the scanner (which is neat but basically useless anyway) and you can stop at like 16 or 18 and still be fully kitted. It replaces the pellet pewer and benefits from mining laser upgrades while also enhancing the laser's mining speed and damage and turning it red. Don't even need grenades, railgun blasts down doors and at that point you'll be doing fuckloads of damage anyway.

>if the game would've actually kept the promises about the multiplayer part i can maybe see $60, taken the novelity factor into account heavily
bullshit, multiplayer would barely add anything to the game. The problem with it not having multiplayer is that the lead dev explicitly stated several times across different interviews that it would, lying through his teeth. It's vile misconduct.

I'm not optimistic about future updates. I guess you can say the PS4 being a limited platform might be part of the reason the game is so feature light and the generation so boring but it took them 3 years just to get to this point, how long will it take them to add new features and any amount of depth?

The only way I can see it happening is if their Sony masters are satisfied with the cash it's already brought in and don't push for feature parity between the two platforms which will slow everything down and keep it limited. That clause probably already in the contract if it exists.

First of all they need to fix the PC version up so it performs to a minimum standard regardless.

Just random, I've gotten it numerous times. Finally got mine installed and now sentinel drones die to my laser before they can fire a shot while their dogs can only get one laser of their own off first, pretty slick.

Don't know if there's multiple levels, if there are I have level 1 and it's already that strong (stacked with some combat modules, but those on their own took like three times as long to kill shit).

>How is the spelunking, and is there a point to exploring caves
Spelunking doesn't really have any special mechanics. There's an electric torch but I've yet to run into a place where caves weren't full of bioluminescence and nights outdoors weren't pretty bright. However, caves are the prettiest places in the game and have the best generated terrain most of the time imo. You end up with a lot of things like the cave eventually coming out in a basin where a lot of other caves drain that kind of give you a feeling that you're in a real place that could have formed by some natural geological phenomena.

As for the practicality of exploring caves, they usually have a fuckload of rare metals (used in modules to upgrade your shit and also sell for a high price) and ship fuel, as well as a higher chance of spawning special items associated with the planet (there's various relics, like some gravity ball, pearls that appear in fleshy green pods, tron cubes and some other shit that will only spawn on certain planets and make the local robots mad if you take them; you can tell if a planet has them if you are warned upon landing that the sentinels there are "extreme," caves on those planets will usually contain clusters of them).

>and how about deep sea diving
Also looks nicer than a lot if not most of the rest of the game, not much point as far as I can tell though. You can find sea life on some planets (and cataloging all the animals on a planet gets you a pretty hefty bit of money so that can be worth it) and sometimes there will be buildings or landmarks on the sea floor, but there's not really anything that doesn't also appear on the surface afaik.

there's a space station called "space anomaly" that looks like the death star. Nada the renegade korvax and his friend polo the renegade gek are inside. Nada is very helpful, he gives you directions to the next atlas waypoint or the closest black hole if you need them or if you don't he can also give you a new tech. Polo gives you the atlas pass v1 if you show him enough creature data, which means you should start scanning creatures if you haven't been before you meet him. Subsequent times you meet him he'll ask for other types of info but I've yet to have him give me anything but tech I already had since the pass.

Dead rocks with little to no fauna and flora
Lush jungle planets with plenty of fauna or flora

Nothing in NMS makes sense. The physics, the chemistry, the biology, any of it. It's a completely atavistic depiction of space, like a dinosaur movie where a t-rex drags its tail. If anyone finds the solar system, it'll probably have green women on venus.

How, then, is this an outlet for people who want to explore space? It's a complete waste of time.

I guess you don't know what atavistic means, because i said that.

To me, there's zero point in just exploring another world based on shit we've known is wrong for over a century now. Why not make the T-rex in jurassic park drag its tail, if people would find that more comforting and less likely to challenge them?

Why can't space games move past the 1800's? Why can't gamers?

It is in its current depiction. So we lose nothing there. But i think that it could be very interesting, but not for everyone. Almost the polar opposite of the "mobile gaming market" that NMS aims for as it's consumer base.

>Also we have zero idea what exoplanets look like in person
Uh, what, lol? Planets are pretty homogenous. Rock planets are made mostly of silicas, gas giants of lighter shit. Atmospheres vary but mostly chemicals that stick around for a while unless there's life to replenish shit like methane or oxygen. We've detected them using spectroscopy, and we know what planets have to be made of because stellar nucleosynthesis only spits out certain elements in sufficient quantities. How the sky looks on an alien world is easy, since we can know what the gas mixture is and how light is absorbed and re-emitted by that gas.

Again, all stuff we've known for the better part of the century. Why not apply that knowledge instead of just pretending that we don't know what the universe is like?

Oh right. because people don't like reality.
>>

I'm not sure they can do this, at least not easily. The generated planets are probably not stored in the save file, so opening a map of one would mean regenerating it. The explored parts could be saved as a simple texture (piss easy to do), but then there would be a lot of detail sacrificed. It all depends on how much information there needs to be on them.

>and give us a fucking planetary map
Since all the maps are different each time, I'd expect some sort of super basic map that just shows where i've unlocked places, or places of interest, like the (?) spots or the other many places. Since I doubt anyones gonna stay longer than a few hours on each planet it doesn't make much sense than to have it be really complex.

OR, just add it to our ships navigation map. Let us even set planetary waypoints of some sort

>I just want the floating icons gone to be honest
yea thats a major pain. I don't know why they constantly show up everywhere. The current system I'm in has 6 planets, 5 of them I've discovered, and most of the time I see 3 or more "outposts" ive already been to showing that they are up in space, off planet.

Launch thrusters (what you use to take off) takes Plutonium, not Thanium. Thanium is only for pulse jumps. Also, taking off from launch pads like when you're on a space station doesn't consume fuel, so even if you're empty you should be able to leave.

I had issues with my SSD that I only use for certain games, and Fallout 4 crashed on it all the time, moving Fo4 to the HDD worked great for me, although witcher 3 still works flawlessly on the SSD.
