Quad Bless Edition
Previous thread: >>150907418 → →

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Protip: always name your pretender something like "MAPantest12" or really anything to indicate your own lack of confidence in its quality of design.

Blood Magic is all about the rituals. Its combat magic is powerful as well, but often a bit awkward to use and easily countered (any battlefield spell that kills your blood slaves makes blood magic almost useless). But it has great globals that can fuck over your enemies, it has very useful summons, and most blood nations have great national spells as well.

I'm not stirring anything up. I agreed to a non-aggression pact with Ceasidh to fight the bats, which I still intend to do. I never made any sort of agreement with Ninai and he did take some of my land which I wanted back and took back this turn (with a province extra as payment for the trouble he caused me).

Caesidh however has already broken the pact by attacking me in a capring province the turn after we agreed to it. I assumed he'd do as much, because not only is he playing a backstabbing nation, the player is a backstabber by nature.
>>
>>151585934
My current assumption was the admin was Machaka desu. I could be wrong though. I think he posted something involving the Mictlan/Xibalba struggle, which seems to point to that.
As for me, I'm just your friendly neighborhood squid. And while it might be in my personal best interest to let TNN stale out so I can grab Scotland on the back end, I'd rather not let the game go that way.
If Der Gotter Admin responds before llamabeast does, it's all cool at any rate.
>>
>>151581074

Also, if you're implying I started a war with these two, then you're wrong. They attacked me without warning together, clearly conspiring to kill me ASAP. I've been fighting a defensive war this whole time against the two. I've been more than decent to my other neighbors, just ask Khaer for instance.

Only slightly. Your units are -way- more OP than his and you have almost full diversity through national summons, apart from Blood.

If you had Blood access you would be higher on the removal list than bats are. As it is, you're just a close second.

it depends

The premier blood nations with cost-effective hunters, good blood crosspaths and (besides LA Abysia) national blood summons are EA/LA Mictlan, Lanka, EA/LA Xibalba, LA Ulm and LA Abysia.

As for research priorities, you most definitely need to go Const. 4 for Sanguine Dowsing Rod before you start doing the whole blood hunting thing in earnest (due to the opportunity cost involved, you'd rather use as cheap mages as possible so B1s like Mictlan Priests often make the bulk of your blood hunting force, and Sanguine Dousing Rod increases their chance of finding slaves from 50% to 90% - prior to that you should of course use bigger mages because they find slaves more reliably).

Depending on the in-game situation, you likely want to reach some early combat research targets first because blood magic is top-heavy both in terms of combat spells (some early blood spells like Summon Imps and Agony are workable but not great, the actually good blood combat spells like Harm, Rush of Strength and Leech are much deeper) and summons, which will be the target of the bulk of your slave income. For example, Mictlan might want to reach Alt. 5 for stuff like Wooden Warriors first before going deep into blood but that kind of stuff depends entirely on who you are fighting and how urgently you need something that helps you in combat right now.

Ultimately, you should play what you find interesting, but I think EA Mictlan is the best choice if you want a good overview of blood because Jaguar Warriors should be able to get you to a good position where you can really start focusing on blood (while synergizing with bless you likely want to have for your national blood summon, Ozelotl) and because Mictlan has the best native blood crosspath options (including paths required for summoning Arch and Ice Devils).
>>
>>151599968
Oh, I forgot LA Marignon. As a nation they're not great but if you look at capacity at blood alone, they're also quite respectable with 65g B1F1 Diabolists and Fallen Angel national summons.
>>
>>151586205
I agreed to stop fighting if you could show me that you were close enough to attack bats, even with flying.

You didn't, so...
>>
Are tradings binding in DG?

>>
>>151600228
In a game with anons how do you suppose we could enforce binding trade agreements?
>>
>>151598278
>what race should i try out for this experiment? abysia?
Only if it's LA Abysia. EA and MA have poor blood because it's all cap-only.

Any blood nation would be alright to learn with, but if you really need a suggestion EA Mictlan is the most straightforward blood nation (simple mages). Just remember to check what dying dominion does before playing them so you don't die like Cruxador.

>when should i get into blood? right away? after a few months? it depends?
It depends, but you will almost always want to get some research done before you start hunting for blood slaves. If you start hunting immediately you'll have nothing to do with the slaves you collect and will be unnecessarily harming your income and research.

>>151600381
If someone breaks one you sub/AI them.

There was the entire steam discussion about the bats, it was pretty clear I meant tell me via province numbers in there how you'd be able to attack the bats.

The ceasefire was conditional, you didn't show me or others that you actually could reach the bats, so there was no ceasefire.

You really want to continue playing this game? Alright, I'll humor you. Here was my plan of attack after dealing with a few backyard problems and taking back my capring. I. would be my base of attack into II. which would become my beach head that would eventually have lead into III. which is the bats cap.

But all of that is in the shitter now of course. I'm not sending out my forces, when you wouldn't even give it a turn after agreeing to a ceasefire.
>>
>>151602994

I would've had to go through a couple of provinces that were my provinces originally but were taken to get to II. But isn't that the whole point of cooperating to remove bats? Or do bats not matter to you all the much that you wouldn't want to lose a provinces for a single turn to deal with them? Clearly I was mistaken about this whole bat-removal business you were all crying hysterically about.

My "story"? Explain to me why I would care about proving anything to anyone when someone goes and conspires with another player to destroy me without warning or reason, then agrees to a ceasefire to cooperate against bigger threat but immediately breaks that ceasefire the very next turn. I have nothing at all to prove. I've said all I need to, and that is the war between me and Ceasidhe continues just like he wanted it to. If the bats swallow the world in the meantime, then so be it.

Terribly. Low MR means that my men were absolutely melted by mindblasters and enslave mind.

But nonetheless, fuck y'all, Atlantis for life. I'll bounce back from this.

Hopefully. It's somewhat difficult to determine how to go about dealing with the lack of MR on my troops, especially given that I don't have enough earth mages to spam Iron Will, and not enough astral mages to get Antimagic up.

Ah well. I'll be sure to drag a few squids down to the abyss with me.

Yes, anon, that's a great advice. Really useful. I'm sure mindless jellies will be great help at dealing with mind-targeting spells.
>>
>>151608148
Just use them because they're cool
>>
>>151608148
I mean, Flame Jellys will not be targeted by the spells that are wrecking his units, so that is actually a good thing. If a good chunk of his army is flame jellys, and then a solid number of chaff he can recruit that flame jellys shit on, all he would have to do is field Higher MR commanders and buy some antimagic amulets for his more important ones. If the Flame Jellys and their commanders don't get fucked by the spam, and you made sure flame jellys can hard counter the spell soaking chaff you brought... Just hope flame jellys can deal with his armies?
>>
>>151610904
Flame Jellies are great against the non-mindblasting part of R'lyeh's armies since it's mostly chaff they can burn through rather effectively. As long as the commanders don't get nuked (bring your own chaff to distract the mindblasters!), they're a good unit to use vs R'lyeh.

I have the same problem. A roundabout way that works for me is to Alt-Tab out of the game, then go back in and hit printscreen. For some reason it normally doesn't work, but If I tab in and out first it does.
>>
>>151633542
Every time I take a screenshot with print-screen it's delayed. Like I'd get print-screened stuff from some time ago.

Definitely get Luck.
Luck 3 + Magic 3 = lots of gems
>>
>>151665152

It depends

If you have a regen bless, then Tomb Wyrms are definitely a good amount of bang for your buck. Without a regen bless, tomb chariots are alright too.

A lot of it comes down to expected lifetime, as well. If you're losing a war, then a Wyrm/Chariot factory might not be as useful as something which'll definitely contribute to victory RIGHT NOW. If you're winning, then a reanimator summoned now can be producing stuff for you for the rest of the game.
>>
>>151665152
Summoning dozens of tomb kings and freespawning a hundred tomb wyrms/chariots per turn is a legit C'tis strategy.

I have a side question about quadbless mictlan, how do they prevent being domkilled if they dump all their scales and let better dominion in to keep their income up? Do they just use sacrifices when it's getting precarious or something?
>>
>>151673917

That, pretty much.

As quadbless Mictlan you're always going to want most of your provinces to be hostile dominion, because YOUR dominion will fuck them right up. You need to keep some in white candles, but usually as little as you think you can get away with.

Sometimes this leads to you dying to -dom events. It's a balancing act.
>>
>>151628058
>>151633484
Fear not, I am here.

The new admin is offline right now so I did the extension for him. I've sent him the passwords too in case he needs anything else.
>>
>>151673917
Quadbless Mictlan isn't actually a thing because you'll have to sacrifice dominion to an extent where you can only recruit a few jags a turn and your actual combat potency will be worse than pure scales.

3 majors and a minor is in principle doable and while it's not a viable strategy, if you were to try it regardless, revolves around Mictlan's ability to fully control their dominion spread: High Priest with Jade Knife can generate 5 temple checks wherever you want while your dominion doesn't naturally spread. Simply being domkilled isn't really a concern with the new temple check resolution (you want around 6 dominion anyway to recruit some jags out of your capital), allowing beneficial (or neutral, rather, because you won't get beneficial effects from enemy dominion, but that's still 10+ scales for "free") to take over most of your territory while having a few faithful living in marshes and deserts is, though.
>>
>>151674750
Interesting, seems like a fun playstyle.
I'll have to try it out in some sp.
Is mictlan pretty much THE nation for maximizing your bless at the cost of everything else? Also is quadbless the max is is there a combo where quintbless is possible?
>>
>>151644207
Higher level astral gives a better chance of feebleminding mindhunters (40% per S level). Not sure if multiple astral mages increases the chance.

Generally even a single S1 mage is sufficient to prevent mind hunt. Having 40% of your casters feebleminded is not worth it unless you have widely available healers or GoH.
>>
>>151676117
Quadbless itself is only possible on a few pretender chassis, I think there's some chassis that allow 4 majors and 4 points in one path, but that's with worst possible scales and dominion.

And while they technically have the tools to mitigate the issues, it's not a good idea to play Mictlan in such a way. Dualbless Mictlan would beat tribless (or the largely hypothetical quadbless) because you can afford more stuff.

If you want to play with extremely heavy bless (such that it's actually a good idea, feel free to meme around with tribless Heart Companions if you really want to), MA Ermor is the nation of choice because they WANT to tank their scales anyway and their ability to mass up sacreds isn't dependent on those scales.
>>
>>151676117

For majors, four is the max. Although if you go tri-major you can also pick up two/three minors. Although this said, going that far is counterproductive, since you then can't afford the candles to recruit more than a couple a turn. Six F9N9B9 jags will generally beat three W9F9N9B9.
>>
>>151677168
You can actually get 4 majors and a minor actually, with the smoking mirror.
>>
Is any of: Ur, Hinnom, Marverni, Pan, Helheim, or Agartha around.
Would like to speak to you about the growing concern in the North.
>>
>>151676117
Mictlan is THE nation for three reasons. First of all, recruit anywhere sacreds means you can leverage the bless. Second, blood-saccing means you can not die despite the terrible Dom score. Third, good pretenders for it. This was true even before the re-balance, but now it's possible to have four blesses and not have the lowest possible dominion strength. That's important because it also caps sacreds per fort per turn.
The fourth reason is memes.

Maximum possible bless is four major and one minor. Plain quadbless is better because you're trading off domstrength for that last half-bless, but if you were playing optimally you wouldn't be playing quadbless anyway so do what you want.

Quadbless is not a viable strategy for MP. It's a very memeworthy strategy, but you can't actually win anything using it.

Hell, even Tribless is pushing it unless you really know what you're doing.

I think major blesses are, in general, a waste. Its a major point sink to go from the 5-7 you need to cast the most powerful spells to the 9 you need for a major bless, and most sacreds are crap compared to normal units.

Plus you're only getting 6-10 a turn anyway, and they can only usually only be recruited at the capital.

I'd like blesses a lot more if they didn't just apply to garbage throwaway units that cost twice as much and had a lower buy in, like 7 instead of 9.
>>
>>151688130
yes
only a few sacreds benefit from majors

sometimes 3 or 4 minors get you a lot more value
>>
most combat worthy pretender forms are also a huge point sink. No matter how many HP they have they are still only one unit, and the 2 or 3 provinces you get at the start of the game (if you're lucky) don't make up for the all the summons and combat spells you could be getting.

Also, why are immobile pretenders so expensive? didn't they used to cost less? 150 points is way too much to pay for a dominion 3-4 with a few paths/ specialties.
>>
>>151688130
Blesses are extremely potent on literally any nation with sacred summons.
Especially those with Ozzies.
>>
it also seems like every fifth spell is actually useful, and a lot of the more useful ones can only be cast if you're carrying gems, which wouldn't suck so much if you didn't have to have a lab just to equip them.

It kind of sucks that labs don't do anything on their own, either. a lot of times you see a capitol with like 20 mages in it all doing research cause nobody wants to shell out the 500 gold to recruit mages away from the capital. (Assumming you want to make them useful when they aren't blasting shit)
>>
>>151688130
N9 bless is amazing specifically because it never loses it's value. Same for E4, though to a lesser extent.

>>
>>151688130
Getting a single major usually isn't that expensive and can be more useful than the equivalent points in scales

>>151688675
Good awake expanders can get way more than 2-3 provinces in the first year even in an MP setting
>>
>>151681608
While I agree quadbless is crap, that particular situation only happened because he didn't blood sac at all, and dominion has been made easier to spread since then.

>>151688130
>and most sacreds are crap compared to normal units

>>151689253
>nobody wants to shell out the 500 gold to recruit mages away from the capital
If you only recruit mages in your capital you're going to lose.
>>
>>151689253
Spells are situational. Literally all of them. Some are more niche than others, but there are very few spells which are actually completely worthless.

Labs are useful specifically because you need them to recruit mages, and getting a second mage producing fort up ASAP is literally 1 or 2 on the early game priority list. Every additional mage producing fort is also extremely important, literally the difference between crushing defeat and victory.

>>151688675
Combat pretenders provide a huge bonus to expansion, far more than just 2-3 provinces unless you're not using them right at all. Immobile pretenders are expensive because they provide ample benefit for their cost. Starting domscore of 4 means you spend less on boosting it, they have high starting paths which make a single/duelbless a lot cheaper, and before the point cost was increased a while back the meta consisted almost entirely of 'Well N9E4 Irminsul is so cheap there's no reason not to take it'. These days, pretender diversity is much, much higher, and that's a sign of a healthy meta. Only issue currently is erf snek, which is, ironically enough given your first complaint, a combat pretender, due to it's cheapness combined with it's effectiveness making it extremely ubiquitous.

Alright, you're clearly new to the game, but please, please take the time to learn how to play, and take a brief look at the meta before you comment, because you look like an idiot and the danger is that because you are making statements and not asking questions, somebody might think you know what you are talking about.

It doesn't take long to learn the basics, once you join MP. A couple of games, maybe 10-15 hours of actual playtime.
>>
I don't know man. I think this game has too much filler, not enough crunch.

Every 5th spell actually does something useful, a lot of the nations and units are redundant, even the lore isn't really that consistent with the mythology and its own mythos isn't consistent with itself.

I feel like it would be very easy for a competent modder to cut 25-50% of the content and lose nothing of value.

Its like they say in writing, "Kill you're Darlings," or "Second Draft is you're first draft minus -10%" (Of your word count)"

You spend too much time adding content and not developing enough focus on what you already have, you're game is going to feel shallow.

Point. I mean, I can imagine some uses for them but it seems unlikely that those uses would come up barring extreme edge cases. Very early battlemagic is fairly lackluster beyond fire evos, thug buffs, and scaling spells. They might change the course of a battle if you've ended up at the point where you're throwing the kitchen sink at an extremely early aggressor, I guess? Gives your mages -something- to cast, even if it's not very good.

I don't see how these are not completely valid criticisms. You want the game to suck so you can be an autistic twat and scale through the list of 800 crap spells so you can find the 100 or so that are actually useful.

You like the crappy math behind the scales and blesses because it rewards your autism instead of following a logical chain of progression, and if you think you're going to take more than 2-3 provinces with a solo thug spec you're fucking stupid.

Either admit the game has flaws or allow it to slide into the muck of perpetual bugfixes and overhauls and mod version hell.

dude, read all my previous posts

Like I said, many of the nations are redundant, don't need to exist in all three time periods, or are basically just garbage or should be removed from the game.

There are too many spells that only affect the caster, a single square, or a single unit, all of which are mostly useless when you're in a battle with hundreds of troops.

Most spells that affect the caster are not very good because they only apply to the mages themselves, and mages are generally very weak in combat.

I actually tried using Star Fires once. I had very high protection but low hp enemy undead troops so I used it instead of Solar Rays.

I thought against 5hp 25 protection units that it'd do better, but it was fucking terrible.

>Gives your mages -something- to cast, even if it's not very good.
In my opinion, it's almost always better to just sit in your capital and research a little. Level 3 will usually get you a decent spell, and that's only 350 or so RP. Half a dozen mages can reach that before the enemy breaks your walls.

Woah there, friend!

It seems like you're claiming that your preferences are fact, by automatically assuming the things you don't like about the game are objectively valid criticisms! At the same time, you seem to be dismissing any criticism of your own argument as biased and subjective! Seems a little hypocritical, don't you think? Moreover, you're claiming those objective criticisms of yours based on a clearly beginner-level (Or otherwise very flawed) experience of the game!

And then you go on to claim that because people like the things that you don't, they're autistic and possibly elitist as well.

Now, I don't really know how you expect people to respond to this, but it probably isn't going to be to engage in a debate with you, because it doesn't take an artisan's eye to see that it would be near completely futile. Almost like arguing with a stone cliff face, in fact!

Maybe you should consider being less of an overbearing twit about your opinions!

First is get a little of that magic, 1-3 skill. This is really cheap but doesn't get you much, especially if your nation has the magic already.

Second is get a lot of that magic, 4-7 skill. This is more expensive but gets you access to a wide array of magic from that path.

Third is to take a bless. You don't get more spells than the second choice, but instead you get some strong troops to recruit.

Each new step costs more, because you're getting more out of it. Blesses don't give extra spells but you get benefits from them in other ways.

>Blesses are extremely strong
but they aren't

In fact, they are pretty much terrible. Only a handful of nations have decent sacreds. Most sacreds can only be recruited at the capital and only 6-10 at a time.

They generally have shitty armor and most nations other units they can recruit that are a lot more cost effective.

The blesses themselves aren't even that powerful. Regen on a 10-15 Hp creature is 1 or 2 HP a turn, which is crap. Fire and Death are both underwhelming, the board has commented on this on numerous occasions. Earth is good, but since you can usually recruit units with better armor than sacreds anyway, its kind of a waste.

Strong blesses aren't that good.

What about the 90% of nations who DON'T have sacred summons?
>>
>>151698525
>Only a handful of nations have decent sacreds.
At least half the nations in each era has stuff which can be worth a bless. About a third have sacreds with are so good that basically everyone takes a bless for the nation.

>Most sacreds can only be recruited at the capital and only 6-10 at a time.
So what? With a single major bless many of those sacreds can go toe-to-toe with 10x their number in enemy troops.

Plus there's often sacred commanders, and sacred summons.

>Regen on a 10-15 Hp creature is 1 or 2 HP a turn, which is crap.
N9 isn't amazing on low-hp units, but remember it also nearly doubles their hp. N9 on a 15 hp unit should be 3 hp per turn too, IIRC.

N9 is also a bless with a ton of utility later on in the game. It's good for basically everything, whereas a lot of other blesses are only useful for your sacred units.

>Fire and Death are both underwhelming, the board has commented on this on numerous occasions.
They are underwhelming compared to other blesses. That doesn't mean they're weak.

Fire makes your troops all but guaranteed to hit and gives them a lot more damage. Death makes most troops take twice as much work to kill and gives a little extra damage on attacks.

Fire is only underwhelming because it falls off quite heavily lategame.

>Earth is good, but since you can usually recruit units with better armor than sacreds anyway, its kind of a waste.
Armor isn't everything. In fact, many of the best troops in the game have weak armor.

>>151698891
Dom3mods would probably be just as offended at this as /domg/
>>
>>151697657
Meh. Assuming there is a gun being held to my head, because otherwise I wouldn't actually want to cut content. The issue I have with moving nations to other eras is that magic depth and scale is usually based mostly on era, so it leads to some oddities. Gonna ignore that rule.

EA: Machaka, Ur, Oceania, Kailasa, combine Vanheim and Helheim

MA: Machaka, Vanarus, Oceania, combine Man and Eriu, combine Xibalba and Mictlan

LA: Pythium, Man, Patala, Ragha, combine Xibalba and Mictlan

I feel like anything further would ruin one of the major selling points of the game. Moreso than it's already being ruined, I mean.

Brings up a reasonable point, actually. The devs aren't perfect, a lot of nations are overly same-y or boring.

But at the end of the day, Indie game devs can only do so much, and until they get around to fixing that, we have mods to alleviate it. Look at the nations that summod attempts to overhaul. They generally feel much more unique and flavourful than they otherwise would in vanilla, at least in my opinion.

>>151699517
A lot of mages function well as melee fighters. Like half the nations in the game have mages that can at least pull thug duty, and this isn't even getting into protecting your mages from attacks like rain of stones and earthquake, which ironskin can help immensely with.
>>
>>151699943

Australia. Where else?

Yes, I think that's fine. Not every nation should want to play the same way. Some want blesses, some don't.

Most of that other half can still get decent value out of a bless, they just don't usually take one.

>and thats worth the 100-150 points you have to sink into a strong bless?
Absolutely. There are even nations which like blesses so much people will regularly take two of them.
>>
>>151700105
yeah, usually nations with giants, which are fucking buff as hell anyway, (Aside from getting swamped by tons of little dudes who land lucky shots)

Most mages really aren't suited to combat but a lot of spells are only useful in melee.
>>
>>151699976
Often, yes, it is. This has been proven many times by nations which take a strong bless and have strong sacreds winning games.

And yes, half is a good number. Blesses should be an option to take, not mandatory.

Isn't it less effort to try and reach a compromise than to segregate each player according to his or her playstyle?

I understand that rules are sometimes arbitrary, but shouldn't there at least be some effort into making them fair as well?
>>
>>151700041
Yes. Shift click, then click again on another unit, selects a group to split off from a stack. Click on the commander to assign those units to him as a new stack, or click on a different stack to add the units to a stack.

Dunno what you mean by skirmishers.

Ermor basically wants to spread their dominion, build forts, labs and temples everywhere, and then use their death income to summon mages. Mages are important, and win games.

There are two cardinal ways of playing MA Ermor. Dual/Tribless and rainbow. For the first one you'll need something like N9 + 1 or two other major blesses of your choice. For the second one, something that can function well both as a sitesearcher and supercaster. My favorite is A4E4S6D6 lich queen. Kind of denies you N access, but Soul Drain and Undead Mastery are great for late-game. And you can make astral shields/coins. You can also try going 0 S whatsoever and get N+W for Foul Vapors and summons/globals.

Always build forts close to each other because you don't need to recruit units at all, only indie mages for research and new paths. If you're playin tribless, consider investing in archbishops early on. You'll need to empower your first spectator into D3 for that because your god will be imprisoned. They can produce your strongest sacreds every turn. If you're going for rainbow, research Ench 5 for skelespam (trust me, your skeletons are not a substitute for skelespam. you can thank me when you kill early-game armies with 3 mages), and summon Dusk Elders only. Don't even think about spectators, they suck.

If you're playing tribless, rush the shit out of your weak-ass neighbor almost immediately. Your sacreds should carry you in early-game, and at the time mid-game comes, you should have lictor factories rolling. You should definitely try winning before late-game. As a rainbow build, your end-game is NOT Burden of Time. It's Well of Misery + Utterdark. Your immortal pretender would be able to solo unprepared armies in magic battle phase, and your shitton of dusk elders would rain Wind of Death (and rarely even Rain of Stones) on doomstacks. Your skellies are there as a support for casters.

Ermor's problems are:
People will hate you and would want to remove you right away (and they'd be right)
Magic Duels from cheap-ass S1 mages can fuck up your expensive Dusk Elders.
Nations with banishment communions (bonus points for Sceleria)
SCs fuck skelliesup
>>
>>151700506
I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say with that post. You'll need to elaborate.
>>
>>151700717
Only faggots use banlists. Play what you like, balance is a unicorn, diplomacy and RNG mitigates the issues anyway.
>>
>>151700904
Just use all your skellies as cannon fodder. They have no morale, so doing sparse line + attack rear will kill all indies for you. Consider using soulless as evocatchers against other nations. Move them in the front and set all your skellies to hold and attack rear for mid-late game when you have actual mages.
>>
>>151700904
Oh. Skirmishers aren't really a thing, as MA Ermor you generally just want to chuck all your skeletons into a big block and roll over things or die trying.

Let me just wind up my MP game... There we go.

See, forts should optimally be everywhere. Start a fort in the first province you'll get if you can (yeah, always take Luck3 Magic3 and dump everything else; there's always a chance of getting 2000 gold on your second turn). We're talking about MP games where Pan can get 25 provinces in the very first year easily. You need to get your freespawn to respectable levels ASAP. Always build temples only inside your forts too. And always leave provinces with big population/income alone, as you'll be poor for the whole damn game. Your income will only ramp up when you actually invade someone.
>>
>>151701424
Normally forts take resources from the provinces around them, so building adjacent forts is a no-no unless there are mitigating circumstances.

MA Ermor doesn't care about resources, so they build a fort on every province they can, adjacent or not.

MA Ermor is a pretty bad nation to learn the game with, all told, because there's so many 'Well, normally X, but since you're Ermor, Y.' situations.

It's only really a question of gold efficiency and if you can protect them.
>>
>>151702945
You want to fort ALL thrones you have, maybe build a fort on a really good site, especially when you can hire mages there. Otherwise it's a good idea to leave 1 province between them, especially for nations with high-resource cost troops.
>>
>>151702945
There are extremely important sites in the province that you only found after you already put up an adjacent fort

You're playing a nation which can survive with low resources and there's no other reasonable spot to put it

The province has so many resources that you don't care about the additional resources from adjacent provinces, generally due to a site providing bonus resources for some reason

You got a free fort from a magic site.

>>
>>151704032
Forts at chokes don't really do much to prevent invasion, mind you. Dominions is perhaps a bit like naval game in that regard: forts are bases from which you can project power, but armies are fairly elusive and can keep rampaging through your territory until faced in pitched battle even if you still hold a fort at the old border, and the real defensive advantage comes from the first turn, not fortifications.

Certainly, they still offer defensive value (for example, a forted choke point is always a thorn in an invader's side because if you successfully sally worth and recapture the province, they lose connection to your territory and can no longer claim income while you can keep recruiting forces that start in position to launch a counteroffensive immediately when they are recruited) but in most circumstances a good player will leave a token force to siege the fort while pressing deeper to your territory without stopping to capture the forts.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't fort choke points, but it's just one factor in fort placement. For example, if you could choose between a farmland province with a nice site and 5 connections to high-res provinces and a choke point in marshland, nine times out of then you'd fort the farmland province first.

>I was going to initially just fort off the chokes and then build inward but it looks like I'm going off to war.
Having a secondary fort is extremely critical in an early war, mind you. If you only have your capital and the enemy starts a siege, you've effectively lost. If you expect to be attacked, placing forts in a place where they are the most likely to finish constructing should be your primary concern.

>>
>>151707936
Depends on the nation, but I'm quite confident that every nation has an answer to it. Some even have incidental answers, since soul slay / stellar cascade spam will kill it by accident, as will a lucky T-strike hit.

Also, a large number of elite units (or buffed decent attack density units) will get in enough lucky hits to bring it down eventually. I've seen buffed up vanhere chop up a dai oni SC. When you've got 9 decent damage attacks / turn / square on average, you eventually get the rolls you need to kill a thug.
>>
>>151708162
Using vanheres as an example is straight up cheating though. They're monsters.
>>
>>151708259
True. I'm sure that Se'ir would be cheating too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the tactics that strong nations are using anyways will kill this thing eventually, and every nation should be able to use their national mages to kill it relatively easily.

It might still be worth doing, but even an unprepared army won't straight up die to it and it's relatively easy to field an answer.

>And these are most likely going in with catas or oiors, a max of 10-15 each on guard commander
Two things - first of all, this is fairly expensive since your super-tank thug is meant to soak hits and mixing him with expensive sacreds means that these expensive sacreds take hits and therefore suffer losses too. If anything, I'd say that fielding a significant number of sacreds accomplishes the same purpose as this thug, and you should either invest the gold to have your tanky flanker squad or invest the mage turns to have your tanky flanker thug.

Secondly, with an N9 bless, those sacreds will be evo magnets, which means that stuff like stellar cascades and thunderstrikes etc are more likely to hit the thug incidentally and fuck up your investment.
>>
>>151708661
What you're saying is "it has a 60% chance to work 39% chance to fail and 1% chance to summon a Doom Horror". See, it can and probably will work, but it's just not a solid design. What if an army has cav flankers that kill your soothsayers? What if a single vanherse from 1PD kicks its butt? What if... etc. Be my guest and do it in your MP game and post results. I would never do something like that if I'm not sure it will work in at least 85% of cases.

Mercenaries that are rehired just continue functioning as though they never left. You can't use the rehire to teleport them across your nation.

Light thugs are great for raiding because they let you use gems (often even gem types you aren't using for battle magic) to take provinces. Light thugs that require mage turns in combat basically need to fill a role in the battle. In the case of your thug dudes, they can help clog up an enemy flank or tank while actually also dealing a bit of damage with their AoE brands. That's not useless, but because they are are a single target and can also die just incidentally to battle magic already being deployed, you are spending a lot to do what a regular cavalry squad kinda-sorta already does. If the mage turns are less valuable to you than the gold cost of the sacred squad, then sure, use your thugs. You just need to recognize that they have a decent chance of dying and factor in the expense for the benefit you derive.

that said when you have lot of blood mages and no more 6000 pop provinces to hunt, you can sit 7 blood hunters and a lot of patrollers on an high pop farm and run it dry.
>>
>>151712219
Short Answer: use the 8000 province

Basically, there are three checks for whether or not bloodhunting succeeds.

The first is based off bloodhunter level. It's 40% per level, so a B1 with SDR will succeed 80% of the time.

Second is based off unrest. I can't remember the exact numbers but it's not a major issue if you don't have tons of unrest there.

Third is based off population. It scales linearly up from 0% at 0 population to 100% at 5000 population. You'd always succeed this check in the 8k province, but you'd only have a 80% chance to pass it in the 4k province.

You only get blood slaves if you pass all checks, so using a province with <5k people will somewhat decrease the blood slaves you get.
>>
>>151712458
Unrest will get you much sooner than actual depopulation.

Ur is a weird nation, but the AI is awful so you should be fine.

Your random god is really awful, of course, but you can probably win just based on your battle magic.
>>
>>151712576
I haven't played a ton of niefelheim but I'd go with Jotun Godes for skellyspam (cheap H2) and massed (maybe communioned?) Skrattir casting cleansing water for elite undead.

However, the AI is terrible at the game and probably won't teach you anything beyond the basics. Once you understand basic gameflow, leap into MP so you can get wrecked in a far more productive manner.
>>
>>151712501
It's worth noting that unrest caused by hunting during that particular turn also has to be beaten by subsequent hunters, making each subsequent blood hunter slightly less effective than the previous. Any reasonable amount won't reduce the chance of passing unrest check to 0% (as long as unrest is reduced to 0 at the start of each turn), but for this reason you probably don't want more than ~10 blood levels worth of hunters per province.

Correction: It's 10% +40% per blood level.

>>151712841
Hmm. From personal experience you can stick 20 levels of bloodhunters in a province without major issues.

Looking at the bloodhunting calculator 10 B1 hunters with SDR only drops the chance to get slaves down from 90% to 70%. Your average number of recieved slaves with 10 hunters is also nearly double the amount you get with 5 even with the unrest (27 to 50).

Further hunters might start suffering more severe diminishing returns, though.

Is it worth taking a bless on Marverni? If so, which one? I'm thinking E9 to protect my fragile druids and unarmored boars.

Also I've read the two guides linked in the wiki, but they are vastly different.
One guide suggests scales for fast research and to pump out hordes of mages and troops, amd other suggests one or two major blesses to abuse the freespawn boars.
>>
>>151713891
Go B9 and use your boars as evocatchers/magekillers.
>>
>>151713891
If you're going to take a bless I'd go with B9. It lets your chaff actually damage the enemy when they die.

E9 is a nice bless for mages because of reinvig, but your main mage (the sequani stargazer) isn't sacred. The protection bonus isn't enough to help boars/druids much either.

The scales guide is designed for a very aggressive playstyle where you fight and kill someone early, whereas the bless build wants you to research and build up more. Choose whichever you think fits your preferred strategy better.

Evocation 3 for fireballs and/or Conjuration 5 for elementals.

Possibly a bit of blood after that, or construction 4 for SDR.
>>
>>151718887
Sorry, I misread your post.

With lots of Fire mages, evocation and conjuration are no-brainers. You'll want to break into Blood as well sooner or later, depending on your position. If you need your mages in combat quickly (which shouldn't be the case with your Zhadyedans, but it's possible), fireballs and elementals obviously take priority over blood magic, but if your opposition isn't pressuring you then it doesn't hurt to get some Blood and Construction early on to get your blood economy going faster.
>>
>>151710335
Doesn't stacks.
>>
>>151719059
No worries, thank you for taking the time to respond! I appreciate the advice.
>>
>>151718461
thaumaturgy 2(really quick) for bonds of fire(F1) and bonds of fire ( for fire 3 mages), note that if you get some S randoms on your mages thaumaturgy can make for a small communion.
OR evocation 3 for fireballs(that you can't normally cast and then evocation 4(that's a bit slower than thaum or conj) for bane fire darts. note that it also has spells for your D2 mages. evocation also has usable spells for your air/water mages and astral communions.
AND AFTER THOSE conjuration 3 for small fire elementals. conjuration 3 also has phoenix power: your F1 mages can use 1 gem to get to F2 so they can cast fireballs. i'd rather do bane fire darts, but since their big effect is MR negate they might not always be the best spell.
Choose depending on what the enemy is recruiting and at which time you need to field mages, eventually conjuration 3 will power up both thuamaturgy and evocation.

REGARDLESS Blood 1 and some minor blood hunting is the first thing you should do:while am not a big fan of blood hunting when you are low on research, at blood 1 you can summon fiery imp ( really good if enemy has low prot and no fire res or low attacks per square) as ritual, and flying imp in combat, which are, again, good if the enemy has lot attacks per square, but buy your mages time to cast spells and your sacreds time to eat the enemy in any case.blood 1 cost so little in term of research!.

if you get lot of death and astral gems there will be really good summons at conjuration 5(more sacred troops) and 6 ( cooler mages), but that's in the far future.

given the chance i would cast 3-4 rounds of spells such as bane fire darts then go to 150 fatigue by casting summon imps OR fire elementals( and air elementals too if you can).
after your war plan is stabilized you want construciton 6 to get a lot of lightless lanterns.
>>
>>151719896
>>151719224
>>151718461
ofc if you are under no pressure to use your mages in combat then do small blood hunt->construction 4->build sanguine dawsin rod->build up a more decent blood hunting->construction 6 spam lightless lanterns->conjuration 5 or 6 to summon more troops or mages.
>>
>>151719896

Dominions is a shit game really, but it's the only one of its kind.

>Every 5th spell actually does something useful
Try every 10th. You could argue they can all be useful at some point in some way if the planets align, but you could argue a spoon that doesn't resist high temperatures and melts after one use could also be useful if for some reason you don' want anyone after you using it, that doesn't make it not shit.

The nations themselves aren't redundant but they are made in a way they are. Nations need more unique summons and interesting troops, instead of adding more nations Illwinter should focus on this.

Game is far from shallow, but it's designed like ass. I'm not saying to cut shit down to 6 nations or some shit, but if Illwinter cut out 50% of the nations and worked on making them more unique and interesting (and only started adding nations after, once the first batch are done) in Dom5, I don't think anyone would complain.

Except we're not talking about cutting down 6 nations to 4 like usually happens, we're talking Illwinter cutting some shit that is basically the same with some path differences and 2-3 national spells. You'd go down from 75 nations to something like 35, all of which would get much more work put into them. The others can be released afterwards, like they are doing now.

Also they WILL cut stuff for Dom5, there is no question about it. They already said they want it to be a big change. The only way they won't cut stuff for 5 is that it's another 4, which is basically an expansion to 3, however they've already said that won't be the case and we will likely get a lot of new shit like 3D terrain. There is no way Illwinter will be able to recreate 75+ nations at the launch of 5 unless they are the same (same sprites too).

If you look at other illwinter titles like CoE, you'll see that illwinter tends to reuse sprites as much as possible. Whatever dom5 changes to, it's very unlikely they're just going to toss away all the sprites from dom4 and start anew.

So, assuming they keep the sprites, it's not going to be a ton of work to move nations to dom5.

Realistically what would you expect out of Dominions 5 considering that it's supposed to be a significant change compared to the jump from 3 to 4?

Will we keep the sprites-on-tiles battle system? Will the map-screen management mechanics change at all? Will we need to research advanced basket-weaving before we can recruit sacreds? Will magic be overhauled? Will the equipment values be revised to more accurately reflect the difference between furs and plate mail?

The thought of losing sprites-on-tiles is terrifying but interesting at the same time. 3d battles with Dominions' scale and depth would be awesome, but I've been looking at sprites for so long that I don't know if I would be able to handle it.

What nation is this for?

It has some pretty major issues regardless of nation, though. Those scales are terrible and an awake rainbow is dumb.

>>151726556
These are looking like they might be old builds. E6 cyclops with those scales can get dom7 with current pretender design system. It's either that or the dude who made them is a complete scrub and left 30 points just sitting there for no reason.

For the build itself, E6 cyclops is very expensive for what you get compared to an E6 earth snake (for example). It does have the benefit of being able to become a SC with a bit of gear, but I don't think that's worth the cost.

>>151726772
>dom9 dragon for expansion
Yep, definitely looking like old builds.

With the new monster pretenders, dragons as an awake expander are outdated.

>>151726880
Can't really tell without the astral level information, but looks like a fairly standard scales oracle. Oddly enough, it includes water magic, which was one of the changes during the pretender rework, so that's some evidence against the builds being from before then.

Unlikely we will lose the sprites, unlikely it will go towards a 3D battlescape Total War style. It will however definitely feature 3D terrain and it's likely we will see the end of provinces as they are now.

The manual itself for Dom4 says:
>After Conquest of Elysium 3 was finished, working on Dominions sounded like a fun idea again, so we started to plan a Dominions 4. We had a few really major changes that we wanted to see: one was the 3D world map from Trade and Taint. Here you would get line of sight for armies and movement speed would be meters per day with exact distances between cities. Also, you would have changing terrain and lineofsight for magic rituals. Another idea was realtime battles, with everyone moving at once and spells having different casting times. The third idea was team play with a team consisting of one god and his disciples. Then we made a list of all the little changes we also wanted to make and it got very long. So long that we thought it was enough with that list to make a new game. So we scrapped some of the major ideas that had the potential of making Dominions 4 a worse game than its predecessor.
>Thus, we decided against the 3D map and the realtime battles. We have experienced a few games that got worse with their updates and we didn't want that with Dominions 4. Maybe with a Dominions 5.
>>
>>151727416
Order with luck gives some really good gold events tho. If you're going full scales, why not?
>>
>>151727451
It also says a bit about another game they wanted to make instead of Dom4:

>Trade & Taint was just a preliminary name, but we never figured out a better one. It was a real time multiplayer online game, like a MMORPG, but not massive and with no 3d characters. The game took a lot of inspiration from Star Sonata, a great little game by the way.
>The concept was to buy a party of soldiers and donkeys and then transport goods between villages, making money by buying cheap and selling were the demand was high. After a while you would be rich enough to start your own colonies and create mines there if the place is mineralrich or maybe plant fields and sell oats. It was still an Illwinter game, so we had magic and horrors, too. When you had a colony you could create a wizard's tower and have your mages perform magic rituals, craft items, and enchant your surroundings. We had global rituals too, like meteor storms that made a meteor crash down on the world every minute or so. The meteor storms looked very apocalyptic and were devastating for everyone but the horrors. Performing magic made the world more tainted and enough taint resulted in horrors appearing. First came a few, then came some more, and finally there was an apocalypse of horrors that destroyed settlements, player colonies, and eventually the entire world.
>It was, however, a bit too ambitious and it felt impossible to finish, so it got laid aside. Instead, we decided to make something easier and that was to create a modern Conquest of Elysium

Trade and Taint sounded interesting.
>>

Sprites are guaranteed to stay because there's nobody who's going to rework graphics when even dom3 assets are still being reworked slowly.
I have mild hope for engine rework (given that Johan needs to fucking do something to keep himself busy) or rework of some of the key combat mechanics.
>>
>>151727451
>exact distances
>meters per day
That sounds like it could be awkward as hell to deal with. Could it be possible for armies to be 5 meters short of clashing in certain circumstances?

Though the idea of being able to truly outmaneuver people on that scale does sound fun. I'll need to look into Trade and Taint to get a better idea of what that means.

And as for real time battles, that sounds cool but I'm having trouble imagining it.

>reword of key combat mechanics
beyond being able to move mages around in the scripting order I can't think of anything hugely wrong but I'm very interested in hearing.
>>
Jap wiki is actually a pretty good source of beginner knowledge. It explains spells well, for example.

>Rain of Stones
>Earthquake relatives. Unlike the whole attack of combat curse Supplementary type there are two in the same level, only once at the moment of fires, but immediately attack is carried out. For strongly affected by the defense force, it is used for the hordes of mainly diatomaceous enemy. While exhibiting a truly devastating effect on the well work partner, the probability that survive even in human beings if armed to the teeth is high. Immediately the entire battlefield, and it is possible to reliably attack, known as a magician killer. Communion becomes a strong counter to the other party to come to mobilize a large number of magician for. However, because of the physical attack treatment, weak to Mistform and Ethereal. Fog Warriors light infantry if that would be used even even not kill. Effective for these protective ally side. Because if so used normally to the human magician in question himself die, the reinforcing of the defense force to keep doing properly. Previously Ironskin and Temper Flesh good just keep using, for example, but, since the magician of taking the time about enemy in preparation would give the corresponding time, trigger would be better that as much as possible hurry. In fact, magician, such as cut is called from if to use without first being killed instantly in the high HP is the best. Easy to be obtained will about God and Shito, but also in other Tartarian Gate brought into rampage and givin affordable magician from.

What are some non-balance related changes you'd like to see in Dom4? (Or even Dom5)

Personally :
-More fucking songs, they should hire this guy since his music fits http://adrianvonziegler.bandcamp.com/
-Better/Improved sound effects, every time a dozen elephants charge my entire apartment hears it, and I can distinctly remember another kind of unit making a really horrible screeching sound, some lizard or something
-More ways for the game and environmental art to reflect the current state of the world, especially with globals (when Astral Corruption is up make it play very faint whispers sound, darken everything when Utterdark is in effect, etc.)
-It would be also really cool if events had more ramifications, like say someone winning 3 tournaments becomes a worldwide hero and gets his own magic site named after or related with him. (Mage unit gets a library, commander with a lot of leadership gets a training ground, druid gets his own grove, gladiator gets an arena, assassin gets a guild, etc.)

Just random fluff that they'll probably never implement because it doesn't improve gameplay and thus be a waste of money.
>>
>>151733234
My biggest would probably be your point about the music. I eventually muted the music to just play my own over the top because the one battle theme gets kind of grating after the first hundred hours. And I'm Dergot Berytos fighting an elephant based war with Machaka so holy hell do I understand what you mean about their trumpeting. That sound x40 in one turn is almost enough to knock you out.

My personal biggest desire would be being a name assigned to each individual unit in each army along with a history tracker. I think it's neat that you can see where they were recruited, if they have experience and if they've been wounded, but I'd love it if they had commander-tier depth.

I'd want to occasionally be able to click on a random infantry man and see what his name is, how long he's been serving, which battles he's fought in, what he's killed and what took his eye out. A separate Hall of Fame just for infantry wouldn't be necessary but I'd appreciate that too.

And an idea I just had now, that could play into the intelligence game for other players. Spies could have the ability to look at specific units in a province they're hiding in with some kind of action which when executed successfully gives you the history of a unit in the province. It could be useful for telling you where an army's been in the past.

And this has given me another idea, prisoners. Maybe you could be able to take prisoners when an army is forced to route into your territory rather than having them all drop dead. I'd imagine most players would sooner eat the loss than pay a ransom but maybe there could be some kind of benefit worked out for the victor in achieving this result.

Thanks to these two happening in the same turn in which Asphodel decided to take a province and declare war (in that order), my assault on the other kind of skeletons will be delayed for a couple of months until I've at least reclaimed what I've lost so far.

Getting sandwiched between undead here, I hope the rest of you are at least scrapping some provinces from them.

Battlefield terrain is a sticky problem because the battle system doesn't really support planning for it. Spells creating terrain (i.e., enduring spell-effect zones) would be cool but it would take a lot of new battlefield AI. Aesthetic things like putting a river/the sea at your back when that's all you could retreat into would be nice but not at all important.

>>151741247
Support for layers is basically what CoE has. Except that we'd also need a way to define aspects of provinces in new ways, like elemental affinities or something. I'd really like this, actually. It would be great for making some maps with cool locations drawn on more fun/mechanically consistent, and it would make meme games even more insane.

>Battlefield terrain is a sticky problem because the battle system doesn't really support planning for it

Then let us plan for it! Allow us to see the terrain in a given province by having a scout spend a turn investigating. Update the formation system so that you can see where you are placing things relative to actual positions on the battlefield. Add elevation and line of sight, with AP costs and minor atk/def/dmg bonuses, maybe even some special terrain that has heat/cold/poison auras, acid clouds, MR related effects, that sort of thing. It's a fantasy setting, why the hell not? Link it to magic sites, even. Graveyard of the Damned in the province? It appears on the battlefield, spawning hostile longdead each turn. Witches Bog? A section of swamp on the battlefield that starts with a small number of Bog Beasts. Tar Pit? Watch as infantry that try to charge through it get bogged down and potentially drown. Should have checked the terrain and accounted for it! Even boring sites like Dolmens could be represented, even if they don't do much.

Expand on this. Change the fort system so that forts aren't simply giant areas with walls that divide a battlefield in half. Make them huge, yes, but allow us to choose where they are placed in the province when construction begins! Let us build fort improvements that are actually worthwhile and have an effect on the battlefield! Give each nation it's own style of fort!

You want to have a giant wizard's tower on an island surrounded by a lake of lava that spawns neutral fire elementals? You want to build a fortress in the middle of a massive, scorching hot wasteland that saps the strength of troops trying to cross it? Imagine if you could do that? Having strong recon and intel is ten times more important now. Imagine the increased tactical and strategic depth it would provide.

>>151766660
As what nation? It's generally not a very viable plan because of their natural 22 MR and horrifying ability to rape any mages you send their way. If you must do it, you'll need an S4 mage with every penetration booster in the game, IE Rune Smasher, Eye of the Void, Spell Focus. Even then, your chances of successfully enslaving it before it obliterates your mage is extremely low. For higher penetration, you can use a higher power S mage, but your chances are still going to be low, and the relative cost is a lot higher. You could commune, but that just introduces a whole ton of tasty new mages for the God Vessel/Legion to obliterate.

For reference, an S9 mage with full penetration gear still has a 95%~ chance of failing.

It's even more pointless because even if you do take control, you still need to spend gems to GoR or Divine Name it if you want to get it's magic paths back (Not that it isn't terrifying without them, but you know), and they act as Eater of the Dead in that even if you do control them, they fuck off again after a few turns.

Kill them, or wait until they leave.
>>
>>151767753
That won't work, you can't confirm anything useful. What you can confirm could easily be seen by the fake with spies.

Only way is to use the ingame messages.
>>
>>151768078
I have all paths except blood, so maybe charm or control of the dead is an option. What about a communion of golems?
Perhaps I'm better off just killing them, but that itself even seems like a risky endeavor. Soul Slay probably don't work, so maybe massed air elementals? The poor man's Slyphs. My armies are 1/3 vine ogre, 1/3 dust walkers, and 1/3 lamias at this point some maybe I can just crush them.

>>
>>151769497
It's a poor idea because they also have damage reversal.

Better to just get a bunch of SCs to attack all at once and stomp them.
>>
>>151770917

Of the reasons why it's a bad idea, damage reversal really isn't one of them. If you have anti-magic up (and there's no reason not to, if you've a half-dozen astral casters spamming Soul Slay) then most of your mages are gonna be sitting in the high teens for MR. Minimal chance to trigger it, if they make the Slay stick.

Significantly less effort than gearing multiple SCs, who have considerably worse odds on the Reversal MR checks, because they're going to have to hit the thing more than once, while tanking it's damage.

Admittedly, my own S1 supply was from a mobilized research corps, it being quite late game by that juncture.

So I haven't played in about 2 years, I think the last patch was the Caelum rework and the fire/ice faction added. What else has been added since then?

can I join some multiplayer games?
>>
>>151777303
Xibala, Therodos and Ys have been added since then
Xibala is a nation of stealthy size 2 flying bat people (and frog/atlanteans from MA onwards) that are really strong in EA and LA, when they have blood magic and blood hunters with +1 innate bloodsearcher and very good sacred demon summons.

Therodos is basically underwater spoopy ghosts with popkill, some freespawn ghosts, strong cap only mages and what used to be pretty good sacreds before they got nerfed into the ground.

Ys is underwater elves with some pretty ridiculous sacred firebreathing cavalry, they're basically diet Marverni in every other aspect with respect to their magic, their land units are based off them as well.
>>
>>151778013
Ys also has a unit that summons swan allies, and the swans have no upkeep so you can do 1000 swans in a fort.

I played significantly with the Goons, there was diplomacy there like anywhere else. But there were also plenty of players with histories of breaking deals, and a kind of "tryhards are nerds" attitude that could make some players impossible to deal with.

Also the community was kinda split, players who joined the IRC and players who just went to the forums, so anyone that didn't join IRC was essentially void in diplomatic terms(and there used to be a bunch of really autistic members of the IRC, which made less people willing to come there)

Is there any good way of just speeding up late-age games? Bogarus is my fav faction (Magic, chassis, summons, non-fort units, fort units are serviceable) but the games pace due to the really fort level is a fucking immense drag for most of my friends.

You could just run those same nations, but in EA or MA instead so forts are simpler. It shouldn't be a difficult mod to make.

If I did that, I'd have to stale my turn.
Can't turn in turns for two different nations. And I'm not sure who natgen deadbirds sent them off too, but I'd assume no one.

I've half considered spreading them evenly or picking a nation but i've had no real idea for politics so i didn't send them to anyone.
