Southern Empires by Cataph adds new units to Tilea, Estalia and the Border Princes. There's also a faction unlocker to allow you to play as them but their campaigns have no victory conditions so you can't truly win.

Chaos Divided adds the more occult side to Chaos. Cultists, daemons, god themed units, etc. Some stuff is pretty OP but that's good for Chaos imo. It's a good mod, breaks up the monotony of the Chaos campaign and makes their invasion a good bit harder.

Why don't they make a neural network based AI and let it learn from online PvP games? Then it could become like Google's DeepMind and actually become good.
They could have a different AI depending on game type, like if it's a gunpowder game or melee-based. That way it wouldn't try to charge with cannons or some shit. Don't know if it's actually necessary.

Rangers/Coureurs de Bois/Frontiersmen (?/the Spanish ones) absolutely shred early game troops, and should be rushed in the Americas ASAP. Unlike regular light infantry, they can fire all at once without needing to be set to light infantry stance (needs to be researched as a tech like bayonet types/fire-by-rank) and will murder most things you point them at. Their stats are good enough that you'll keep them for the entire campaign.

Pandours do the same and carry an early Austrian campaign, but need to be babysat because their reload is dogshit. Get a few units round the back of already engaged enemy infantry and you've won. Swap them out for Jägers/Grenzers/regular LI when you can; Windbüchse Jäger are garbage -- don't bother.

Abuse the hell out of your starting units' ability to plant stakes (Spanish get one regular light infantry in Flanders, and the Austrians get one in Transylvania; I think France might start with Coureurs de Bois in NA).

When available, walls are your friend, especially with Pandours.

greenskins aren't fun until you can get giants and arachnoroks and that is so late that you end up steamrolling everything anyway.

Empire is really fun to me no matter how you play. I've had a lot of fun blitzing Vampire Counts and using the gold mines to have more money than I know what to do with, I have had a hell of a lot of fun going and colonizing Praag early so that when chaos comes I get a bunch of really fun sieges against 4 chaos stacks right off the back, with the added bonus of keeping chaos from destroying everything north of the reik. My next one I'm going to try to stay in the reikland and get most my money from raiding Norsica and attempting to form human nato instead of conquer them.

Going back to M2 after glutting on Warhammer is jarring as hell

Looking at the massive building lists for your cities is weird, but you do have a different spec for each settlement because it takes a lot of time and money to build one castle to produce super sords, and one to produce uber cav, and another to produce fuck cannons.

But the UI changes are such a relief, not knowing my firing ranges, not being able to move all my guys in a precise formation is welcome.

I like how Med2 is a lot more solid in it's physics. Big formations can get slow and cumbersome to maneuver, and infantry engagements get much slower and more grindy as you use heavier troops.

The skull takers were shitting on wissenland so I confederated them. I'm bringing down what troops I can, I had to leave some forces in reikland. I have a tier 2 cav building that will be complete in 2 turns. I'm wondeirng If I should wait for some empire knights before I engage the orcs. They are pooping everywhere. Out of those i guess Bugman for Bugmans rangers, and Grimm Burlockson since he is a master engineer and adds new gameplay mechanics.

Fear and terror are both ridiculous traits, yeah.
The units who have both of those traits do so much for their cost that it's almost silly.

I managed to beat the skulltaker army then their waagh since they attacked me one after the other. THen a bray herd spawned and chased the orcs south into the dwarven mountains. I have absolutely nothing to gain from warring them as well as not being able to efficiently spread corruption is game breaking.

When they add Tombs Kings, I wish they'd add "Khemri Undead" as a mountain-settling undead faction. Then they could add Neferata as well so they'd spread out a bit.

Then Vampire Counts would have an incentive to wage war there to spread vampiric corruption as well as gaining trading partners.

The orcs and the dwarfs as well would have another faction to wage war against instead of just themselves.

One, Med 2 and Rome 1 have been out for a very long time, so they're going to have a lot of big projects finished for them.
Two, there are big mods out there in progress for Rome 2 and Atilla, namely ancient empires and Medieval Kingdoms 1212AD.

Warhammer is hardly moddable, no way to import new models or textures, all mods pretty much are limited to whatever assests are already ingame. Rome 2 and Attilla on the other hand are more moddable in that sense, but still less so in the older games in the sense that the map and its regions cant be altered, so you really cant do something like say third age for Attilla, unless its battle only, because the campaign map would still be europe

Finally completed my empire long campaign! Was only on hard, but whatever. I spent early game working on diplomacy, knowing that Chaos was coming, and ended up allied with damn near every single faction when Archaon came. Got everyone to unite and smash them back super easily.

Sadly entering the Age of Peace, my alliances started to fail so I had to bum rush capture the last few settlements I needed. Felt kinda shitty just storming the last 2-3 turns all the people who used to be allies, but in my defense they did break the alliance first.

Feels good, and now I can move onto something else. Maybe try a Beastmen VH or go back to work on my Dwarf VH, though the Dwarf one was getting boring
