I'm about to get into this franchise - already own the Fate/Extra game and have played quite a bit of it. ...So, I got to thinking about creating my own set of Servants... however, looking for mythical/historical people to fill the classes is quite difficult. Even for a library assistant like me. Can anyone point me to a few good sites that actually LIST famous spear users, swordsmen, archers, assassins, etc.?

So far, my list contains these guys:

Saber – Rhydderch Hael (uses Dyrnwyn) / not changing this one as it's perfect.

Archer – Wilhelm Tell / I could change this if I find a better one, but for now Tell should do.

Lancer – Lugh (uses Brionac) / I kind of dislike using gods. Need moar spearmen.

Rider – El Cid (Babieca), Manfred von Richthofen / Either of these two, or someone better. Can't figure out who to use.

Caster – Beethoven, Count of St. Germain / Either of these two. I personally like the latter idea a lot. Could also pick someone better? idk

Berserker – Kullervo / Berserkers are hard to find, but at least I know Kullervo is completely postal.

Assassin – Simo Häyhä / I really want an older assassin... Typemoon tends to use ancient people (the newest one is from the late 1800s or something). But this type is the HARDEST to find...

Avenger - Izanami / Well... her husband basically went "Wow, you ugly!" at her and shut her in a cave. She's pretty close to Angra Mainyu in hate level.

Saver - Ahura Mazda. / Why the heck hasn't Typemoon used him yet?

How many tickets/quartz are you willing to sacrifice tomorrow?

My main issue is that I tend to roll everything I want within the first hour of playing.
Think I am going to spread them to 3-4 rolls a day.
Will probably use only 15-18 of my tickets in total though.

That's my point exactly. OVA isn't a good system in the least, and I would still prefer it to the mess of Exalted. Then again, I also think THAC0 and attack matrices are good systems, so my opinion is generally considered wrong by the current generation of faggots.

Whatever system you came up with or used would definitely need a heavy narrative focus and a very , though. It would be impossible to adapt every possible spell or ability.

You aren't permitted to go beyond that extreme, because the game is designed within that limit. The idea is that there is a limitation to power. No matter how great a Level 17 Fighter is, he should never be able to hit 100% of the time. There has to be at least a 5% chance that he can miss. The idea of unlimited statistical growth is a meme born about from campaigns where the DM would shoe-horn in +10 Magic Swords and let Level 100 Magic-Users run around because the players wanted to see bigger and better numbers, and people actually serious about the role-playing aspect of the genre have been mocking it since the earliest Dragon magazine articles.

I was referring more to matrices, which is AD&D1E specific. The THAC0 system of course is more easily broken because it permits things outside of certain parameters, but that boils down more to the GM than it does to anything else. If you intend to let campaigns get into the higher degrees of power, then of course things will start to get messy. For my part, I tend to not like campaigns past the point where players begin to get access to 7th Order spells. It's better to keep the higher levels of stuff in the hands of NPCs.

I also have no interest in addressing World of Darkness because it's not a system that has ever interested me enough to look into it, and commenting on it would be done out of ignorance.

There are two ways to do it that I've found moderately successful.

The first is to just go with something extremely rules-light, like the coincidentally-named FATE system.

The second is to use something like Mutants and Masterminds, which gives you a lot of flexibility in what you can do without being too strict on how you can do it. The downside with Mutants and Masterminds is that combat pretty much always becomes a slugfest, since it's supposed to be a superhero system. You could maybe present the combat mechanics as an even greater abstraction of the action than most RPGs do, or you could maybe mod it into a more straightforward HP system. Or just use a different system with a similar degree of flexibility. GURPS might work better, but I've never actually played it so I can't say.
