BIG QUESTION:

What firmware should we expect the new small N3DS to be, especially now that 11.0's have been confirmed in the wild in Japan AND America?

Should I just buy a copy of fieldrunners right now to prepare for it in case it's 11.0?
>>
>>151210279
Bug endrift, we can't do shit about it here.
>>
>>151210892
They're obviously going to be on 11.0, and if you're stupid enough to think any different for even a second, you're probably too stupid to undertake this downgrading process anyways.

>Should I just buy a copy of fieldrunners right now to prepare for it in case it's 11.0?
Yes, because it's going to be 11.0
>>
>>151210758

Fuck, that's a good question.

N3DS --> 2/o3DS = NO

Install mednafen_pce-fast.vpk from the Retroarch nightlies, put syscard.pce in your BIOS folder, and that's it.

yes you do the dsiware downgrade with that

Why options, right?

The official one can't FF, savestates/rewind, use generic bin/cues/simple memory cards. Specifically on the PSTV it also lacks scaling options and controller remapping.

I guess that's why even with all the VCs and "native" on 3DS they get dupes too.

Also worth mentioning there's basically no loss in bring it over (and they've already started/tried).

The N3DS gets "reasonable" performance purely via the CPU with dynarec. Currently the Vita dynarec is the hold up, but one thing it also has over the N3DS is a NEON-graphics capable CPU which, surprise, PCSX ReARMed is optimized for (and ARM).

There's no reason to not have it.

10.7 or lower generally.

There's yet to be a confirmed case of a wild 11.0 in Europe, though with both NA and Japan having wild and special edition 11.0's, respectively, it's now possible and you should definitely be careful.

>>
Desmume Vita is pretty good considering age and that the base is shit and was never intended for toaster specs.
>>
>>151216653
they each have their merits, though i'd say go with the 3000. to break it down, the 1000 is guaranteed to be able to have permanent cfw flashed to it and some people like the bulky form factor better, but it has less powerful hardware that can hurt the performance of some homebrew software. some 2000s can also have cfw flashed but most can't, and some people say the screen is better than the 3000's screen. the 3000 has a brighter screen with less muted colors, is the easiest to get a hold of and has a microphone in it that nothing uses, but the screen can have visible interlacing artifacts and it can only use temporary cfw or infinity (slightly shittier than older permanent cfw). psp go is uncomfortable to hold imo, but some people like it and it comes with internal storage, whereas with other models you have to buy a memory stick or a micrrosd adapter, but be aware that it doesn't have a umd drive. avoid the e1000.
>>
>>151218089
last I checked 2000's are cfw flashable; 2001's are not
>>
>>151218089
>some 2000s can also have cfw flashed but most can't
Does that mean that it will have to be loaded each time? What is a good price for a 3000?
>>
>>151218242
that's not right, the last digit just tells what region it's from. i'm not sure what does indicate whether it can be flashed, though.
>>151218298
it used to mean that, but earlier this year a new method of permanently installing cfw for late model 2000s and 3000s was released, so it's not really an issue anymore. i'd pay between 50 and 80 bucks for a used one, i guess.

I've been sitting on 10.1 and an older version of Menu Hax for months, but am only now trying to downgrade. I'm starting from step 1 and tried changing Mhax's trigger to d-pad down, but it's not working afterwards. It doesn't matter if I delete all of the config files and retry setting the trigger; the system just won't recognize the input, either when starting up or when trying to reach mhax from the power button menu. But the l-button (the original trigger) works every time. Should I delete everything and reinstall? I initialized themes after deleting my old config files.

Freeshop is an easier way of pirating stuff. The UI is better, and is more stable in my experience. You don't need to use it, it would just probably make your experience better. What issue are you having?

I'm trying to do this before downgrading, since I read that not doing a system restore when you have DSi data has a chance to lock up the system until you recover and update to current firmware. I can't use CIAs yet.
>>
>>151239387
homebrew-wise? it's impossible to tell at the moment but past ePSP exploits relied on exploitable PSP releases on PSP, meaning updating to 3.60 and activating your account would be wise. then again, by the time an exploit is found, UpdateBlocker probably won't be working anymore, so whatever. in this case a PS3 would be the only way to transfer the game.

if you still wanna activate your account or download something off the store though, you better act fast. you got a week, maybe two before the change the keys and you're locked out.
>>
>>151239387
You've got access to PSP and PS1 games on your current firmware. Those are the advantages you've currently got. If you don't mind losing that support (at least until someone works it out for 3.60) then you should probably upgrade. HENkaku does everything else better. Plus, if you're not planning on getting a PS3, you've only got a limited time to do that PSN shit before Sony blocks 3.60.

not really. you might wanna update and activate your account still just to avoid the hassle of doing it though your PS3 later on, but it really makes no difference.

you don't need a hacked PS3 to activate or transfer content to your Vita and it has to be fully updated regardless (the PS3, obliviously). there are tutorials on wololo on how to do it.

I'm assuming I can't just use a friends ps3 or else I would just end up on their account or something, right? If I get one and format it, can I create an account and then send that to the pstv or something along those lines?
>>
>>151239764
Just do an SD card backup if you can't figure out how to back it up. Also, idk if you can backup dsiware data using svdt.
>>
>>151240083
you can, just make a new profile on their PS3 and sign in to your account. PS3 supports multiple profiles/accounts.

you can create an account here if you want https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/liquid/reg/account/create-account!input.action

it really doesn't matter where you create it.

The downgrade process won't affect your saves, you should be able to just downgrade and setup emunand. Then you can use emunand with cfw to back everything up with JKSM if you want

I know that, but the guide and its linked discussion threads say that whatever causes the downgrader to fail is tied to DSiWare and that if it gets triggered, it's guaranteed to break things every single time. Since I obviously don't want to get locked into 11.0, I figured I'd follow their suggestion that the only way to guarantee it won't happen is with a system restore. But I don't want to lose my saves, hence SVDT.

My only DSiWare is Four Swords. Is that a documented problem, or should I just bite the bullet and skip back-ups?

Yes the hack will work with a 3.60 pstv. iirc you need something like qcma to update directly to 3.6.

You might be the only person playing sega cd, but if no one else responds try making a new save with the vita emulator and renaming your old save to the same file name if they're the same format.
If it's a different format or size open it in notepad and compare them, i had a problem with 8kb DS saves vs 512kb savs and found the 512kb save was 98% the same character in a big block so i deleted that and it ended up being the right 8kb format and worked after that.

They do have poor control over temperature and clunky tips. That doesn't matter though as long as you're not retarded and leave the iron in contact with your hardware for long enough to burn it. I'm about to attempt Browserhax. My 3DS version is 10.4 so I've read that I need to do the clock change workaround. I'd like to clear something up; I've read that you need to do it quickly, but which parts actually have a time limit? From my understanding, as long as I initialize the save data in my browser before a page loads, I'm good for 24 hours from my clock change. Is this correct?

If this is the case, can I simply disable my internet connection while I initialize, then re-enable my net and go to the site at my leisure?

Hey /hbg/, same anon with the 9.2 Sys, 11 Emu and already got my OTP from a previous thing. I got a new SD card since that was the only option after some files not being detected, but I forgot the steps to follow and don't fucking up everything about A9LH.

look up some old tutorials on wololo. I believe you need Tekken 2 to install TN-X, will allow you to play PSP, PSX and PSP emulators.

do note that Retroarch and native emulators will soon perform far better than anything in 3.18. on the other hand, it's also the only firmware thus far that allows perfect PS1 emulation.

>>
>>151260387
If you don't have any intention of buying and playing Vita games immediately then you have absolutely no reason to update to 3.6. Firmwares like 3.18 currently enable ePSP hacks and such. 3.60 has the most current development, but there's no telling what will happen on others. Also no telling if Henkaku (or anything else) will enable Vita piracy, or when. No need to rush to update, you can literally update to any firmware you want whenever you want.

Plus, even on 3.60, you'll still be locked out of PSN features. So unless you're buying legit Vita games or REALLY, REALLY want the emulators on Vita, then there's no downside to stay. Up to you though, just remember to not update via the Vita itself since we're on 3.61 now.

Think of the few games we got as legit .cia games, we can play them without cfw because there is no DRM on them. Once there is a public way to decrypt the eboots, the floodgates will open.

Not him, but stating that

>buying an entirely different 3DS system is almost as cheap

Is completely not true. At least in Europe.

Sky3DS cost around 50% of price of fresh N3DS and a litle more than N3DS XL.
>>
>>151264056
Not in a way you can play, no. The eboot is still encrypted. Also, the group that dumped it either isn't aware of or understand vpk files, which leaks me to believe its probably the same guys if that dump isn't a vpk.
>>
What version N3DS can I hack.

Can I hack 11.0 or is there a cut off?

place vita in aircraft mode off, ( your psn account must obv still be tied to it )

power vita on in airplane mode, post purchase (via psn on pc)

look in settings of vita, there is an option to sync purchases ( make sure auto software updates is off )

Handhelds run on battery. Unlike consoles who run on electricity provided by sockets that have standardised voltage regulations or colour space.
Also, until the 2011, all major handhelds were region free (the 3DS is the first of its kind to not be).
>>

>>
>>151267458
No, its not nice to have even if you have one. I have one, it sits in a box. Why? Because you need to keep the red card in to use any of their shit. And you're better off keeping a DS flash cart in your 3DS so you can play DS games, rather than a DRM dongle for your CFW.

Also, apparently their downgraded that I used forever ago is a piece of shit and I needed to do some manual cleanup to get a9lh and luma to work because Gateway leaves traces from previous firmwares when downgrading. Fuck Gateway.

Considering the way you quoted me, I might be actually older not even jokingly but seriously.
But, the DSi slipped my mind. It's not its own handheld but rather an improved version and it wasn't even fully region-locked. Only DSi enhanced games were and even all games were, e.g. non-Japanese B2/W2 iirc, and it was still able to play out-of region DS games.
So, what other (but please original hardware, and no improvement) handheld was region-locked before that?

>>
>>151268528
Not sure about the first one, but I assume you could just crop it shorter than what you would if you wanted one to be joined without counting the seperator of the 3DS hinges.

If you're making a theme with Usagi, as long as you have "use custom BGM/SFX" unchecked, your sounds will be default, and what Usagi outputs will be what you use. I think it's a Bin file and a preview.png.

Aside from desmume no. You're way better off spending 10 bucks for a flashcard and have everything running full speed, on native hardware with the option of AR codes depending on your card.

DS emulation hasn't been perfected on PC yet. It still boggles my mind how people believe there's a good emulator for it if it hasn't been completed yet on the strongest system imaginable.

People in this very thread can go and buy a brand new Vita still on 2.0x, and it doesn't look like Vitas are being actively produced, so you won't run out of hackable Vitas for quite some time. On another hand, Sony can easily prevent activation of new Vitas via PS3, and at that point only a yet-to-be-written CFW will help.

Not enough processing power. o3DS has to reboot itself to play some of it's own games because of a lack of available resources.

Hello retard here.
Can someone explain why an encrypted eboot is stopping us from playing vita games? How does the vita care if it's encrypted or not. Or does it have a way to verify if the game is original or pirated based on the encryption? It plays encrypted original software fine.

Pls. someone explain.

>>151281243

>>
>>151281441

With HENkaku, the Vita will happily play a decrypted eboot.bin.
All homebrews are basically that.

When the Vita wants to play an original game, it uses license data to decrypt the eboot.bin. This license data is specific to your Vita and PSN account.

A Vita on an original firmware will only use license data for itself. The PS3 uses the same system, but with CFW it will happily use license data from other consoles.

Not 100% sure, there's a complicated protocol where the Vita has to prove to the cart that it is a Vita, and that the cart has to prove to the Vita that it is a proper cart. Take a look at the Blackfin to see how difficult this is to get around.

Can somebody with an N3DS try this?
Pokemon Crystal for me gets ~200-220FPS on Vita. I'd assume RA is running at the 444MHz.
My O3DS caps around 70-75FPS and as expected can barely keep a stable framerate with the menu open.

It just seems like a weird metric to use, but why not crunch the numbers anyway?
>>
>>151284068
I really hope they figure out a work around on that because the cartridge slot is the only port big enough to possibly allow a microsd storage expansion at least without sticking out of the console.

You do know the N3DS has native wireless file transfer support, right? I mean, transferring a file that big wouldn't be ideal, but it's still faster than asking for a titlekey over and over again with no answer.

If you're on 3.60 you might still be able to get it directly with VitaUpdateBlocker.

It's not difficult to do with a PS3 though. You just have to connect your Vita to VitaUpdateBlocker again, then use content manager to copy the game. It's impossible to fuck up, there's no real pitfalls.

>>151284398

Basically yeah. That's how most CFW work.

Back when I used my n3ds regularly that was a hassle to get running on linux and it was incredibly slow. I mean, hours for a singel file slow. Why are you hating on titlekeys so much?
>>
>>151284253
A single vita core at 444MHz is probably faster than a n3ds core since it's ARM11 vs a cortex A9.
cortex A8 and A9 are about twice as fast clock to clock to stock ARM11 cpus

It'd be more like writing a custom driver (like GW)
The card is a black box to the system, it has its own controller that does initial negotiation, communication encryption and likely has something to do with license data as well.
Wouldn't be surprised if it generates a new license every time.

Well, there are some things that could be improved, like not requiring files on the SD card for a9lh (which I think is available in a test build). I don't see why you would be against making this easier.

>My original problem is that I have the H&S app in sysNAND, but not in emuNAND.
Why don't you? Try injecting the basic hs.app into emu and then inject FBI.

>>
>>151289074
If you were a qt grill you could probably take some kickass homebrewer cock and make them write whatever you wanted

I'm not the one insisting that you must be a diehard fan to spend 40 eurobucks on a game. You will literally get 80 hours worth of entertainment for 40 eurobucks, and I've told you that much money is nothing in the long run.

And I'm doubting that.

Do you like Digimon?
Do you like Persona-esque JRPGs?
If you like these then you'll get 80 hours out of it easily, if you don't then this isn't a game for you.

Eh, some of it does. If you're actually running BSD you accept that lots of things don't run well and place a higher regard on security instead.
