Accuracy/Evasion is implemented. I made them visible as a stat, but not directly modifiable (they're generated based on equipment and dex/speed). Though theoretically I could add potions and stuff to modify them like any other stat if I wanted. I didn't want the effects of evasion/accuracy to be too detrimental (ie you can't hit things that are 10 levels higher than you at all), so right now the algorithm is basically:
PercentToHit = 80 + (Accuracy - Evasion) / 2, where the evasion modifier is clamped from -70 to 20. Accuracy is modified by half of dex, while evasion is half of speed, so values probably won't get above 100 in the game, but who knows.

How do you make a macro photon bubble that doesn't look like shit? Additive blending looks too dull on dark backgrounds, but regular sprites don't give off any glow.

We're starting on the mobile port, and are making some changes to the gameplay based on the feedback from the jam.

The way that planets attract and repel meteors was unclear in the jam game. Now blue planets attract blue meteors and repel red meteors, and vice versa. If a planet has both blue and red layers, its effect is whichever layer it has more of. This tends to cause planets to form single color planets, which are more powerful.

I didn't show the whole screen in this webm.

Level generation is starting to take more than half a second.

Thanks to the kind anon that recommended tree stumps for comfiness, I went ahead and made them indestructible. Going to add ponds or some type of water soon. And actual gameplay too, I swear this time. Will juice it up soon as well.

What's the difference between an actor an a uobject? I know you're using C++ but my BP inventory was horribly cumbersome and did a lot of weird shit

For example, here I was trying to get the name of an inventory object and create a UMG widget to display it, but I had to actually spawn the inventory item in the world just to look at its data

Grappling hook mechanics are finally finished. It now allows grabbing objects and pulling them in, or shooting it at a ceiling and going up or down by reeling the rope in or out. Pretty much it works like a real grappling hook would.
Now I have to figure out a way for the friendly npc to follow the player when moves around like a spiderman, since adding AI code enabling the NPCs to use the grappling hook would be a nightmare and not worth the time.

It's basically what you have except your blueprint's parent should be Object, not Actor. Then you don't have to spawn it. Actors are things which exist in the world, and Actor is a child of Object. Object is the base class for all Unreal classes.

In my game, I have Pickup as a child of Actor and Item as a child of Object. Item stores all the attributes, and Pickup stores an Item variable. Item then has more children like Potion, Weapon, etc.

So if I want to put an Item back in the world, I spawn a Pickup and set the Pickup's Item to the Item I want spawned, then remove the Item from my inventory. To pick it up, I add the Pickup's Item to my inventory, then destroy the Pickup.

Same goes for top-down shooters. They too are very similar to platformers. Only difference is that top-down shooters don't have gravity. When you press "up" characters goes up and doesn't fall down. I have a top view isometric like game. The movement (WASD) currently moves the player relative to the in game world (green arrows). So AD moves along the actual X axis which means that left isn't actually going left on the screen.

Is this a good or worse control scheme? It's still going to have 8 directional movement, but I want to know which seems more logical/better.

Redid the camera a bit so it should be less retarded when it comes to moving vertically. Also I changed my mind on having charge moves so now magic attacks come out on button press instead of release, and redid wall-kicking [again x 4] so now you no longer go in a special wall-jump state that forces you to go forward, and now have full control over your horizontal movement as soon as you do the jumping. It makes wall-jumping off of a single wall way easier but that's fine.

So, I want lore in my game, tons of it. However, reading alot of text in VR is not comfortable at all, even with huge text as this test it sucks. Only other solution I could think of would to have voice actors read it out, which would for me be more expensive than I'd like since I even for just the demo would need maybe 6-7 of them.

Do not worry, most puzzles etc will not involve having to read an essay, but I DO in some cases want to convey ideas in a more direct way. A big design staple in this game will be the player having to watch and comb through the environment and make their own conclusions on what happened etc. Some of the text is intended as a "reward" for players solving side-puzzles etc.

Well i was thinking that maybe the sprite should look a little more like the portrait because the sprite didn't do the portrait justice.
But that thought was around when the portrait portrayed your lady with round glasses, a yellow background and a smirk. I really did liked it but that was my opinion. But know that i look at it, it seems you are very unsure to what portrait to choose. Having to change every sprite to accommodate the portrait that changes ever-so-often might be a nightmare to handle. So the first thing is to finalize the portrait before you change the sprite to fit it.

You have two options of what you can do.

I don't want 2D line art. I want colorful and interesting images. Just not in anime or other cartoon styles. I don't know what the style is called. Kinda like pic related. Painting style? Wizards of the Coast style? I don't know. I aint savvy in art lingo.

Mainly composed of 850 pixel x 200 pixels (plus minus 100 pixels) images which are distributed evenly through. And a few special 850 pixels x 930 pixels images for epic stuff.

You will have a change of drawing cool fantastical stuff. Giant Avatar-like forests. Mushroom trees. Monsters. Various fantasy races. Ancient Greek and Mesopotamia style city states. People in exotic outfits.

These images will go in game.

As a 2d/3d artist who looks for colab projects, god, shifting through the mountains of delusional programmers is goddamn irritating. I would do this but I found it's not really good for this game. Using ABXY or the analog stick or something on a controller would be great though.

In the mean time, I made some progress on the track editor. Now I can save the beatmap to a file and use it though to select the file I have to go through the Inspector.

Each orbit ring is a unity cylinder prefab, as a child of the sun. The planets are children of that cylinder. Mouse presses are detected by raycasting and hitting the correct cylinder, and each orbit ring is slightly farther from the camera. When the player clicks on an orbit ring, it is selected and both the ring and the mouse's current rotation around the sun is measured (they are different). Each update call after that, while the mouse is held down, the mouse's new rotation is calculated. The whole selected orbit ring's rotation is set to the initial orbit rotation plus the difference in the two mouse rotations.

Finally figured out properly calculating muzzle positions based on parts rotations and the length of the barrels. Also very pleased to discover GM:S has a function for creating sprites from surfaces, which is infinitely easier than having the game redraw all of the components of the weapon!

Next its going to be the fun part of properly factoring in all of the weapons parts to calculate damage, recoil, fire rate, capacity, etc.

When I was a kid I used to have a first-generation black and white Mac, and a big box of second hand games on floppies. One of these was called SFS. It was kind of like Space Invaders except the aliens were literally giant sperm coming down from space to bukkake all of humanity.

Back when I discovered AGDG was a thing, my first project was a crude remake of that game, just for weird nostalgia's sake.

It would be somehow comforting, in a way, if there were other devs on AGDG I could pass that torch to.

In GameMaker, is there a way I could lock bottom of my view to a position relative to the player?

I want the bottom of the view to always be roughly 30px or so below where the player is standing, like in the first part of this webm. But once the player starts climbing, I just can't seem to get it to adjust accordingly and the player gets stuck in the center of the screen.

How do I tell GM to lock the view in a way that keeps the player towards the bottom of the screen?
