Let's be real. The Vita got off to a great start with HENkaku, but how many people/groups are actually contributing? 10, 15? Maybe a handful more.

I don't mean the guys on Reddit making custom themes, or undubbing their games.

I mean progress in the actual exploit.

Shit, most of us here don't know what the fuck's going on, and are relying on a small amount of people.

This is why I think that HENkaku will be unlikely to lead to anything other than the current homebrew we've got currently, maybe a few other apps that are only good in certain situations.

It's a shame, but it can't be helped.

Honestly, since this is my first time making a guide like this, I never really considered it, but I do have my reasons.

One, I suck ass at both drawing and using Photoshop, so this is one of the few ways I can make OC for the site. I feel like adding my name to it is like watermarking an image macro, but I guess that's really more silly of a reason.

Second, if I were to leave /hbg/ for any reason, another anon could pick up the torch if he or she so wished.

I may consider creating an account now since multiple people have suggested it already.

Hey man. I'm decently versed in console exploits, and from what I can see this exploit will allow piracy. Waiting on the two who are reverse engineering it to post more of their findings in order to have a solid answer. But it is highly likely piracy is possible.

The only thing that'll stop us now is the protection on games. Sony isn't as lazy as Nintendo, and learned from their mistakes with the PSP and PS3.

The Vita is very well protected, so it might take even longer than two months to crack protection on games.

At the very least, we'll see PSP ISO loading soon. Just enjoy the emulators for now, dick around with custom themes and play with what you have.

>>151033957
Being able to pirate games doesn't mean you pirate all games, or don't purchase anything from PSN and so on. As an example, I would never have bought a 3DS if piracy was not possible. Which means I would have bought zero games. But since I've then I've bought several games, and even an n3DS. Which never would have been possible if something hadn't spurred me on to buy the console.

In Sony's case they'd come out ahead immediately after I bought a Vita because of how they monopolize and gouge the memory card prices. I bought a Vita just for HENkaku, so it has already been a positive for them, at least in some regard

Also no, just turn your system off and put the backup there.
>>
>>151035791

You need to use VUB to connect your Vita to your PS3.
>>
>>151035664
Not necessarily. Piracy gets people talking about a console. Even in ways that are not about piracy. If you're talking to someone about what you're playing on the Vita they might consider purchasing one. And they might not pirate. Or if they do, they might still buy games. Bit even if they do pirate, its not like its a lost sale because they never would have bought anything in the first place.

Right now word of mouth is the only advertising the Vita has. I've never seen an ad for one. People are still under the impression there are no worthwhile gamed for it (something that hasn't been true for a long time) because they never hear about them.

I've posted this a couple of times the past few days, and unfortunately my problem is somehow getting worse:
A few days ago, I went from booting A9LH perfectly, to it not always working. I figured it was my sd card, so I formatted it (didn't format the emunand though), which didn't fix anything. I then replaced the emunand on the sd card with a backup I made when I first created the emunand, and that worked fine for a few boots but was back to the same issue the next day. Whether the 3ds managed to boot the emunand seemed to be chance, however a few hours ago (I played it earlier today) it turned on, but when I tried to run a game it black screened. Since then, I've tried booting it many times and it hasn't worked. I've also tried putting the backup emunand on another sd card and that also isn't working. Holding select however always allows me to bring up the Luma3ds settings and I can run A9LH programs such as decrypt9.

TL;DR - A9LH 3ds - Luma3ds settings work, emunand doesn't even with backup and another sd card

Sorry about the wall of text, but I'm sort of at a loss now what to do. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have no idea, but you can still pull XMLs (which contain links to PUPs) off of Google's cache if you google for

>>
>>151046672
>either you're fresh off /vitagen/ or just fishing for (You)s.

This same shit happens to the 3DS all the time. If you buy a Vita used, it may or may not be updated. If you buy it new, it won't have the new firmware in the near future.
>>
>>151047071
Every homebrew scene since the PSP has had to deal with dodging updates in order to keep homebrew working, this is nothing new and was even expected. Every Vita/PSTV that exists on the market is under 3.61 and can easily be brought to 3.60 thanks to update files being available so nothing has actually changed.

What can we do to prevent any vita updates? Don't know how the update process works on vita, but I just deleted the downloaded. Not sure what else it can do to try and update.

So is the only way to get games now is to purchase then transfer it through a ps3?
>>
>>151046981
no one will ever be able to fully decrypt a game because you need the key to do that. it'd be like bruteforcing a 128 characters-long .RAR password.

disabling supervisors and security checks on the other hand is very doable with kernel access.
>>
>>151047586
>What can we do to prevent any vita updates?
Don't update. That's it. You don't get update nags like the 3DS while you're on the home menu, it won't automatically update like the Wii U while in sleep mode or turned off.

As long as you don't go into the system settings and click update, you're fine.
>>
>>151047623
Well they already managed to decrypt savedata, so clearly they found a way to crack the keys. Whether or not it's possible to crack the full game encryption is up in the air though.
>>
Just finished step 3!

Why does the paste bin say its possible to stop here? surely there's no benefits from stopping her right?
>>
>>151047623
You've got it backwards. Nobody will be able to sign games because you need Sony's private key to do that. Historically, they don't have a good track record of keeping those keys under wraps (the PSP and PS3 keys leaked) bit that's besides the point. The public key is stored on all Vitas because they need to be able to decrypt the game to play it. So you can either extract the key or extract the unencrypted game after the Vita decrypts it.
>>
Sometimes I really wish I could contribute to these scenes, but fuck if it isn't rocket science.
>>
>>151047803
Once you get to 9.2 and set up a way to boot into an emuNAND, you're technically done and have CFW and can pirate games. There are no benefits to stopping there since A9LH boots instantly and has a 100% bootrate, unlike Menuhax into CFW which has like a 60~70% bootrate and takes over 20 seconds. You also don't need an emuNAND on A9LH, and can use your sysNAND freely.

There's some other reasons to switch to A9LH, but those are the big two reasons.
>>
>>151047586
just disable the auto download so you don't get a nag. but even then I don't think it can update itself without your consent.

I keep it on airplane mode at all times just to be sure. if you do go online though, you might need to restart the system on airplane mode because it automatically checks for updates, and if it finds one, stuff like content manager will nag you until you restart.

for now you can probably still use updateblocker but yes, the only way to transfer content is through a PS3.
>>
>>151047860

I have an O3DS. I already cracked it successfully a long time ago, always worked fine, played lots of games etc

Today I wanted to install a custom theme.
I placed a theme in the Themes folder, loaded up the Homebrew menu, went into CHMM2, and installed it.

When I turned the 3DS off and then back on, the theme was installed successfully ( even the music ) but the Homebrew launcher and rxTools were completely gone. It was like a normal 3DS.

What do I do?

I'm thinking of Softmodding my original Xbox. I have MechAssault (a game that apparently has an exploit), and I need to find a USB-to-Xbox adapter, as well as an IDE HDD.

Is it worth it? All I want to do is put shitloads of original Xbox games on an HDD and play them.
>>
>>151055776

Also, Vita cards are encrypted.
>>
>>151055870
>>151055831
Not exactly, apparently.

It booted me into sysNand. I checked the System Settings and it was at version 9.2.0

I used Browserhax and it booted me into the usual list where I can pick rxTools, Homebrew Launcher, etc. From there I was able to boot again into emuNand.

I think the only thing that broke is the one that made me boot into that menu. I forgot what it was, could you lads help me out?
>>

I think it's worth it. Though if you have an IDE compatible mobo I heard you can mod it with a hotswap rather than a save exploit.
>>

>Is it worth it? All I want to do is put shitloads of original Xbox games on an HDD and play them.
If that's seriously all you want to do, then yes, go for it. It's cheap as hell and easy to do, and takes maybe an hour tops.

If you don't care about not being able to play Metal Wolf Chaos, you could also look into doing a RGH on a 360 to cover OG Xbox titles as well as 360 titles.
>>
>>151056596
What's the RGH process like?
>>
>>151056343

Heh. I bought an old xbox for like 10 euros from some kids at a freemarket here half a year ago, and it came with mechassault, the sneaky fucks. I should get that hack for the emulators and what not.
>>
>>151056707
It involves soldering, so it's a lot harder than just softmodding an OG Xbox. But, bigger risks and more effort yields bigger rewards since you can do so much more with a modded 360 than you can with an OG Xbox.

Also, as long as you're opening that Xbox up, if you have anything other than a v1.6 Xbox, make sure you remove the clock capacitor off the motherboard. They're faulty, they leak, and they kill the Xbox. It's not a matter of "Maybe it won't happen to me?", but a matter of "When will it happen to me?"

Yes. Easiest route is to go to a GameStop and ask for a preowned Wii that has GameCube ports. The newer, shittier, models don't even have them. And they cost the same. And they're not as moddable. It's not that a9lh improves battery life, it's that emunand has worse battery life.
Since the system runs off the sd card the constant read/writes to it drain the battery slightly faster.

>>
>>151066075
The vita certainly disagrees. And last I heard the per-game encryption of the eboot is also one of those important things that needs to be addressed.
>>
>>151066209

A Vita with HENkaku doesn't care. As the Adventure Time backup shows, the Vita will run a game that is fully decrpyted. We only need public keys for decryption, not private keys for encryption.
>>
>>151065443
>otg
It's not OTG you computer-illiterate faggot, it's a standard host.
>>
>>151063198
I think decryption is not performed based on activation itself. It's that the DRM checks whether the license matches the activation based on the unencrypted header of the eboot, and if they match, the rest of the eboot gets decrypted by an unrelated another function which doesn't even have to be recreated if you can dump the decrypted eboot from the system RAM.
>>
>>151066361
>as the adventure time backup
The DRM-free version of the game? I don't think you can even use that as a reference as it is the outlier.
>>
>>151066361
yeah and gertting public keys is uber easy...
>>
>>151066637

>The DRM-free version of the game?
Yes, the fully decrypted version of the game. The fact that its eboot.bin is decrypted is what enables us to pirate it.

>>151066579

Well we don't know what that function is, do we? That's the big hurdle as far as I see it. Either we need to dump RAM while the game is executing or we need to reverse engineer the decryption function the DRM engine runs to load an encrypted eboot.bin into memory.
>>
>>151066637
The point is that HENkaku executes unencrypted eboots, which can be created from memory dumps, so there's no need to recreate the whole decryption thing on a PC or elsewhere, you'll just drop 'cracked' eboots in place of legit patches to be able to circumvent DRM.
>>
>>151066956
So then the only obstacle being that literally nobody has an idea on where to even start with the eboot since that's purportedly individually encrypted by game, right?
>>
>>151067068

The keys are stored in license files. Take a look at your Vita, you should have .rif files for all your games.
>>
>>151066870
It is. Do you think they're called "public" for nothing?
>>
>>151067068
The only obstacle is not having unencrypted eboots. Whether we'll get them from dumping the RAM or by recreating the decryption with public keys is not *that* important.
>>
>>151022085
Does Henkaku require specifically 3.6?

I am going to be an extreme latefag here, but I just bought a 3ds and hacked it successfully. So I now want to move on to some older systems that I have. I know that the wii and psp have been fully hacked and would like to give those a shot.

For my wii I did the twilight hack and installed the homebrew channel many years ago, I can inject .wad files to play VC and wiiware games, but I would like to move onto GC and wii games. I read over a guide here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/modify-any-wii-4-3-below.171901/ but it was last updated in 2011. Is there anything more recent to follow, and where should I start since the HBC is already installed on my wii? Also, is GC and wii games still only playable from a USB, or is an SD card usable now?
>>
>>151069029
>just one private key
Actually IIRC they (Sony) didn't implement it (some security measure in reference to the private key) properly which meant that a random number wasn't generated each signature.

Kind of a moot point, all this ps3 stuff seems like it's a different gameplan.

In fact, an OFW PS3 is safer to use than a CFW PS3 simply because it lowers the risk of Sony banning all your consoles.

As for fat vs. slim, all fats can have a CFW while only pre-2012 slims can; on another hand, fats are older, hotter, noiser and generally less reliable in 2016 A.D.

wouldn't know, I have a slim, but I think you /can/ downgrade super slims.

and don't get a fat unless you know how to use a heat gun. due to the power supply and the lead-free solder, they eventually die. all of them. the solder cracks the CPU and GPU warp.

it's fixable but a lot harder than just soldering a couple wires. if have the skills though, get a backwards compatible one. best model by far.

PSN connection is SSL-encrypted with the key needed for the establishing a connection with PSN server stored in the Vita's firmware. A week or so after a new firmware (coming with a new key) is released, Sony changes the keys their servers accept from [current FW] & [previous FW] to [current FW only], thus blocking all older firmwares from accessing PSN. So we need a completely new solution for firmware spoofing which involves injecting new keys from (unhackable!) new firmware into an old one. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this to happen.
