Its definitely playable, and you could even have fun, but there are a lot of qualities to the server that just don't make it worth playing on (non-1.12 itemization and progression is the biggest one).

It turns raiding into something even more trivial, and with only BWL coming out in the near future you'll probably raid for one day then be done for the rest of the week.

If you're looking for something to really dive into, Dominions 4 is absolute top-tier turn-based strategy where games against other players last for literal months and there are ~1000 different units, spells, and items to craft strategies with. For reference, the last game I played had ~28 players and lasted 5 full months. About two months into the game, a nation of underwater lovecraftian horrors widely considered to be the worst nation in the game blotted out the sun and began raining armageddon on the world, permanently nullifying all forms of conventional income, killing mostly everything but the bulky giant races and other more powerful summoned units, and permanently wounding those that were left alive.

Trying to stop him before he fucked the world up beyond repair, but being unable to get enough troops underwater with water breathing to do it in time, I spent hours testing and theory-crafting the ultimate assassin to take the powerful mage-god he had casting these spells.

The god had massive amounts of health and was such a strong death mage that if he got one turn to cast a spell, my assassin would immediately die. The only counter to this was a one-of-a-kind sword that would instantly knock any mage out on its first swing, but the assassin would still have to be able to breathe underwater and be fast enough to traverse an entire battlefield in one turn, so I had to also give him boots of speed and a magical trident that gave him faster aquatic movement and underwater breathing. To equip both a trident and the artifact sword, I had to graft a magical third arm onto my assassin. Since the defending side gets the first turn, I still had to withstand one turn of spells, so I equipped him with a magical amulet that negated the first hit against him and made all future hits critical.
Testing this, my assassin would successfully reach and knock out the death god, but would then turn tail and run because of a powerful fear aura, so I had to forge even more one-of-a-kind artifacts that had the ability to boost his morale to levels high enough that he wouldn't pussy out.

Working with several nations to get everything I needed, the assassin then immediately died to armageddon.

The way the game works is that all turns are conducted simultaneously, so you load your save file, script your armies for everything you want them to do in battle, do everything else you need to do for your turn, and then email the turn file into a server, which spits out a new turn file for you once everyone has sent their turns in. Quests are irrelevant at max level. Dungeons are irrelevant once you have pre-bis. Farming gold for an epic mount isn't really worthwhile. Trying to rank in pvp is pointless unless you like being gy farmed by premades.
The only part I enjoyed was leveling, and even then you keep getting cucked by skull level players.
