With the plessy lbg you can even rapidfire sleep 2 and with the right setup could proc 2 sleep just from the 8 sleep 2 bullets you can bring with you, and can bring enough mats to set 4 LBB+s to blow monsters up.

And no, having visited the maps before doesn't guarantee the hunter would know every nook and cranny of the place, with cartographical detail. That's why you have stuff like the Map skill, to show that you have to go through the trouble of learning this kind of skill to have that knowledge by default.
If accessibility is going to be the top priority for Monster Hunter now, then we should start showing monster health, true damage values, and cryptic shit like that.

Preparing for what? All you ever need for a hunt is your weapon and even if you take the damn drinks you have more than enough inventory space. There is no skill here, no inventory management that makes an actual difference.

Why is the CB allegedly bad in this game?
I never touched it in 4U, and now it seems really good.
Soloed my HR 3 urgent in 15 mins with some blackguard I bought from the shop and upgraded once. It seems really strong, is it just because its not kind of OP anymore like it used to be?

All the Arts do seem a little shitty though, which one is worth using if I only have one slot free? Energy Blade or more phials?
Ohh and does the X+A shield thrust attack do like stun or something if its impact type, I practically forgot about it.

I did it in 7 with the bow, senpai. If you like it, use it. The whole thing that made CB incredible in 4U was the sheer amount of combos it had available and the power of GP. GP'ing was literally the fastest way to make a majority of monsters your bitch if you were good. I'm a ranged shitter, so I never figured out GP.

The one thing CB had to it was versatility. It had a little of everything (top tier shield, two modes of attack, could stun, dealt decent damage, could sidestep and evade, had reach) and more importantly, it was a fluid as hell weapon.

You had Guard Points, which were frames of animation in your moveset where you had Auto-Guard. If you guarded with a GP, you could follow-up with many moves, given you didn't stagger from the guard.

Couple that and the fact that you had the phial AEDs, you could pretty much never stop attacking and rack nice KOs, given you knew how to properly link combos and shit, it was a technical weapon that rewarded you for being good.

But apparently the weapon balancing team deemed that it was too OP (which it wasn't, only TA runners could pull off the crazy insane shit), so they nerfed all moves from 2 to 40% and removed the capability of GPs linking to other moves (now GPs only make you continue the previous action as if nothing happened). Also, in 4U you could get the energy shield from the default sword mode, which is not the case in Gens unless you're using Adept.
tl;dr they picked a good weapon and nerfed it so badly that it isn't nearly the same weapon anymore. It's not fluid nor versatile anymore. You can still kill with it, but it was a weapon which the skill ceiling was proportional with the kill potential, which isn't the case anymore.


For your other questions: for general use, Energy Blade is ok for cutting tails or whatever. The one that gives more phials is gimmicky, but works in isolated cases. And any charged shield attack causes stun/exhaust.
