The Saw Cleaver actually has pretty decent damage, especially against beasts, and is fast as hell.

The Amygdalan Arm from the DLC is medium speed but wonderful range and quite fun to use.

The Beast Claws from the Ailing Loran Chalice are very fast, but not exceptionally strong, you can get an item from a DLC boss which gives them a new moveset.

The Whirligig Saw from the DLC has the tricked L2 which trivializes many encounters due to its nearly instant stunlock.

In truth, Strength weapons aren't that fast, but they hit hard. Skill weapons can be strong, but are often faster instead of stronger. If you want to go Skill, stop leveling Strength immediately. Leave it at 25, you'll have what's know as a quality build.

Fastest Skill weapons are the Blades of Mercy, but they're sort of mid-late game weapons. You CAN get them earlier by killing Eileen the Crow at any point you meet her, but you'll miss out on gestures are a very useful item. They can deal damage quickly, but are overall pretty weak.

Gems make up a large part of damage potential, honestly.

Not that I don't agree with you, but look at the context of the world it's in. The beast scourge is the church's shame and they know it, who knows what excuses they peddle around to get out of blame, and it's why the entirety of Yharnam isn't a smoking ruin. But the ashen blood plague was clearly a very serious problem, enough to burn Old Yharnam and shut it up tight forever.

I agree that the larger beasts are too far gone to be anything other than monsters, but the little beast patients seem different. The ones in Old Yharnam have clearly developed a society complete with religious practices and gender roles. They've even managed to rebuild parts of the city from salvaged scrap wood.

Most of the ones in the Hunter's Nightmare have been abused so much that they are completely docile.

As for the Hunter's Nightmare, we can't expect things to work there the way we think they should. It's an ironic hell where hunters hunt for ever and ever, there's even a bloodstarved beast in a river of blood. The whole thing is a cruel inversion probably set up or will by the Orphan. The beasts don't really attack anything, but the hunter's attack everything and are even described by Simon as slavering beasts. The beasts we see might not even be actual beasts, just things from the Nightmare to act in their place in this prison the Orphan has set up.

Bloodtinge is not a hybrid stat, the split scaling on all the weapons is literally split between the forms, meaning that one form will benefit from bt and the other won't

The Old Yharnam incident happened many years, possibly decades ago. The beast patients there are already full beasts, they're not progressing anymore and it's unlikely they'll go through any significant behavioral changes at this point.

I doubt that the beasts in the Nightmare are just fabrications since everything else, from the research hall patients and the fishing hamlet villagers, to the named npcs like Maria, Brador, and Laurence were implied to have been alive in the real world at some point in time. Not to mention it doesn't explain why Djura's ally would go through all the trouble of protecting them if they weren't real.

There are two main types of chalices: story and root.

Story are now shared, which means it's like any zone from the main game where you can cross other people, summon etc. You need to do those story CD to go lower and unlock the root chalices.

Once completed you can farm gems and the like into the deepest CDs

It means you created a Chalice Dungeons, monotany and Blood Gems await! Shared Fixed Dungeon means its a pre-made dungeon that is always the same, everyone has to do it. "Root" dungeons are random and a new one is made whenever you use a Root Chalice.

Basically the best way to do things is to do all the Fixed chalices as soon as you can (if it gets too hard or boring, go back to the main game for a while) and oonce you've done them all is when you start doing Root Dungeons (or most likely just joining others) to find the best loot.

It would make Beast Claw and Burial Blade playthroughs possible, but Tradeable Gems would ruin the game. You remember that one 32.6% Blood ATK up gem someone found? That would get duped 1000s of times and everyone with a +6 Chikage would have them. Not to mention, being able to offload a rakuyo or a bloodletter to a low level would be absolutely retarded

Go quality first playthrough. Pure Arcane, Pure Bloodtinge or a hybrid involving Strength next. Start with Military Veteran and disregard Arcane and Bloodtinge for now. Try soloing every boss first until you wanna summon. Do chalice dungeons anytime after killing Amelia. Leave and play blind, doesn't matter if you miss anything there's always NG+. Endurance is kinda useless, keep it at most 20 or below.

HMS has a 16/12 Str/Skl requirement so you can't even hold it on that build. If you did level up to hold it, it wouldn't be as good as a 25/50 Str/Arc HMS. The beams might hit a little harder though.

Thats the problem with Defiled, you wont get to heal because most of the time a single hit means death, and he has a LOT of health so you need to not screw up for an extended peroid of time, and its much harder to keep him quisi-stunlocked by breaking legs over and over.

I did, my best stuff is on my two main weapons, my Hunter's Axe+5 and my Threaded Cane+5, as well as my Ludwig's Holy Sword+3, Saw Spear is more just something to mess around with(and to murder enemies particularly weak to fire that I don't want to waste a Molotov or Fire Paper on, or don't feel like using the Quicksilver Bullets to Flamesprayer them), oddly enough the only R-Hand weapon I have that I haven't upgraded to at least +1 is my Saw Cleaver(heck even my Flamesprayer is at +3 and my Blunderbuss at +1)

Im not sure how to look at Chalice's from a Lore perspective. It seems a very abstract interpretation of actual places in the lore. I highly doubt the Pthumruian Civilisation was made up of the same hallways and rooms placed together in a formulaic pattern over and over. Same with stuff like Old Yharnam beasts in Loran, im sure there was *similar* beasts, but I doubt pthumrian-beasts would have the same tattered hoods as beasts that were once human.

Also timeline is questionable, is it meant to be all happening now? Or is Eribritas in the dungeons more of a reference to "this is where she came from", same with Queen Yharnam, I really have no idea how to connect her boss fight to her other apperiations. Also Rom in dungeons is fucking stupid, since she is 100% definetly meant to be unique, they didnt even rename her to "Vaccous Spider" like they did with Paarl, to imply it was a different being that looked the same.

The games biggest failing is the fact that The Tomb of the Gods is not a handbuild location thats a part of the main game. Chalice Dungeons should have been 100% non-cannon, everything important should have been handcrafted.

The cynic in me beleives that there's no lore significance to recurring bosses you find in the dungeons, its just the ones they finalised and made compatible with every arena.

Raise STR and ARC as much as you can. But once you reach 25 STR it becomes better to start leveling SKL instead due to softcaps/diminishing returns outweighing the scaling difference.

If you dont care about stopping at a certain level you want to eventually aim for STR/SKL/ARC all at 50. But while at low levels, just keep upping STR and ARC equally whilst making sure you have enough VIT.
