I’ll be honest, I’m quite a bit blown away by the attempts at rationalizing and downplaying the blatant misogynistic and apparent sub-par quality of this game. I haven’t played it, but the screenshots and videos I’ve seen have made me cringe and nearly gag.

They rely too much on crowdfunding, pick up too many projects at once then end up having delayed releases on basically evertything that isn't OELVNs.

They also try really hard to push all ages releases (see: Maitetsu, Baldr Sky) because they want to sell stuff in steam so we end up getting censored stuff and if we do get restoration patches or the 18+ versions they take ages to release them (see: Grisaia).

Finally, their CEO is a complete autist who does nothing but whine on twitter, (see: the outburst from the last couple of days).

Their are basically just keeping themselves in the industry by means of announcing big titles and nothing else.

Flat fee + Cuts. Cut amounts aren't know obviously, but generally speaking publisher cuts range from 30-50%, it really depends.

Lore is Nasu's forte. If there is one thing he is good at, it's world building. Notes and Tsukihime have some of the best. Tsukihime isn't voiced, has dated art and music, doesn't have the best pacing in the world, and also has a thick translation--but I would still say that the whole is greater than the parts.

Otherwise go read another Butcher (the Saya author) VN like Kikokugai if you want more of his style. It's just as well paced.

If you want something more recent, try Fata Morgana. It's gothic-horror mystery. Filled with metaphysics and a world where nothing ever goes right. Top tier OST. No voices. Polarizing art, but the style fits the game.

For eroge Rance has a really strong supporting cast.

Oddly enough the males in particular.

Rance IX put a lot of attention in developing all the male characters. Patton was pretty much the secondary protagonist with his own romance arc, Rick had a whole thing trying to get over a sudden lack of confidence and faith in his abilities (oddly enough Rance was the only person still openly supportive of Rick), Hubert had the whole thing about living in his fathers shadow and considiring himself inferior to the other guys in the group, Rolex had the whole thing with his dead wife and Freak had all of his regrets of his student/best friend becoming literally Hitler in the past.
Lelyukov was theoretically an antagonist but had great presence and Aristoles died well.

Abert in VI is one of the best characters in the series. Patton was actually more popular than Kanami, Sill and Maria in VI.

Then again given they've spent nearly 3 decades on the series it's not surprising they can do that.

Unlike a lot of other eroge series it defintely does come across as being an actual world rather than the implausible thing of a protagonist interacting with 5 girls and only one male friend he sees less and less over the course of the series.

That said, bar Kentarou and the rival characters the male characters do tend to be older than Rance and the other female characters.

Reimi is such a boring and bland class president stereotype. All of her dating events is like talking to a cardboard cutout. Honestly True Love is an old and shallow dating sim. It's fun and popular for the genre, but it's really lacking in character events. Most girls only have 3 or so unique events (other than passing them in the hallway or whatever). The only substantial thing in Reimi's route is the kidnapping. Also Reimi's route is more or less isolated excepting the (false) Reimi-Mikae dichotomy. Arisa on the other hand has a bunch of events that include others like Mikae, Chiemi, and her brother (??). Really a tier list for this game is kind of silly, as there's not much to it. There's a guide out there that gets you every ending in a single game after all. Arisa's personality is so much nicer anyway, it's like you're talking to a person and not a cheap robot.
