Aside from the obvious balance issues I also don't like summoning because it shifts the aesthetic of the game unpleasantly.
Like runescape is initially medieval with fantasy elements. We have combat magic but it's expensive and subdued; not rare but cutting people up still has its place. There's a lot of fantasy but it's kind of in the background.
Then hunter comes out and there's implings flying around everywhere. I don't like it, it makes the world noisier, but it's not some terrible plague. Then summoning comes out and there's giant birds walking around everywhere. I don't know how to eloquently express it but it breaks the harmony of the game.

Pretty much no matter how you're doing NMZ you're going to want to learn how to abuse the absorb potions.
1) Guzzle/eat rock cake to 51 hp
2) Drink overload so you're at 1 hp
3) Drink absorbs to get a bunch of absorption
4) Flash Rapid Heal every 20 seconds or so so you don't go back up to 2 hp
So long as you are at 1 hp, bosses can only do 1 damage to you, so one dose of absorb potion can absorb up to 50 entire hits (since they'll all do a max 1 damage)

It was evident in tournament worlds. I purposely gimped myself in rune or worse with non-AGS spec weapons and maintained close to a 95% duel win ratio against players in the absolute best gear money can buy simply because I bothered using hotkeys/properly efficient switching setup inventory/and general knowledge of how switching and ticks work.
The majority of people who play this game are really, really, really bad. Just because the game is simple doesn't mean it's easily mastered.

It's basically what brids do when they cast ice barrage and then click around the mini map so their character runs around a lot.
