It's really not a hard job, but like any healer it depends a lot on your squad. Trust your fairy, be sure you keep Rouse on cooldown, eye for an eye and virus are crucial, and learn how damage flows in a fight so you can mitigate properly. Don't worry about dealing a lot of damage until you're comfortable with the job or with a particular fight (if it's more serious content). By the same token, don't duplicate effort and waste GCDs overhealing. Let your fairy top people off, it's your job to just make sure they don't die outright.

Be sure you always have the boss focus targeted. Do NOT "save" things unless you are absolutely sure you are going to need them before their cooldown would be up. Nothing wrong with virusing a big mob with a nasty cleave on a dungeon pull. The more you mitigate, the less you have to heal, the more time you can spend in clerics. The more damage that goes out, the faster a fight ends and the less healing that needs to be done.

Keep Aetherflow on cooldown, you should never ever be sitting on stacks with the skill off CD unless it's right off a pull. You can hold one for a lustrate or something, but do not sit on your stacks that's how you run out of MP on a job that has literally infinite MP if played properly. Indom and Lustrate are god tier healing moves and E. tacs will help you in a tight spot if your co-healer dies or is incompetent. For damage it's like level 50 summoner, keep all your dots up and spam broil/ed/ruin II otherwise.

Some people like mouseover embrace macros or macro embrace to their damage skills. I do not macro any healing or damage skills, but it's a matter of preference I suppose. I would be very wary of using them though because the macro command will override your fairy's AI, so if you've got it acting under macros it won't go around topping the raid off like it does normally.

MNK's really fun from the get go, and once you hit level 40 and get Fists of Fire and GL3 it's insanely rewarding to play.
DRG's a pain in the ass to level, but once you hit 50 it starts becoming more enjoyable, and is really flashy looking.
Haven't bother with NIN myself because Straya but I hear it's a lot of fun once you get the hang of your mudras.

Yes and no, regardless the person you shove a card into, its always a buff. If you shove a arrow/balance on the shitter, it will be slightly less shit balancing both dps. Not ideal but the difference isn't something to use parse for.

The basic concept of casters is to always be casting and to get as many casts done as possible in the duration of the fight. If you translate this concept over to melee, it's to try and get as many GCDs done as possible in the duration of the encounter. Your global cooldown is ~2.5 seconds, during which you cannot use any other global cooldown skills (weaponskills), however, you're free to use any off the global cooldown skills (abilities). Essentially that means that if you're delaying your GCD skill "casts" you're going to do less DPS overall than if you were to not delay it.

You're on the right track. In general yes, you do want to get as many GCDs as possible, which would mean the lower your GCD, the better it gets. However, there's a point where your off the global cooldowns' animations start clipping into your GCDs, delaying when the actual GCD skill goes off. This is the most noticeable on NIN, where the mudra cast animations take forever to finish and then you still need to fire the actual ninjutsu too. Even with extremely good latency, your 2 part (mainly raiton, katon) and especially 3 (mainly suiton, doton) part ninjutsus clip into your next GCD. This in turn brings down the stat weight of Skill Speed.

Skill Speed lowers your GCD yes, but oGCDs have a tiny animation lock (you can't use two at once, there will be a small delay). So the lower your GCD becomes the harder it becomes to weave in your oGCDs, especially double weaving.

Additionally, a job like DRG or WAR only wants a specific amount of Skill Speed to hit certain break points, a specific number of skill usages in a given buff window. Any more is a waste or can even fuck up your rotation.
