I've finally admitted to myself that Xcom 2 is not what I thought it would be. It just isn't good.

Fuck Advent. They're dull and boring as shit. I hate fighting them and they're not satisfying. I want to kill aliens not humans. Killing a single sectoid in Xcom EU is more satisfying than killing an entire levels worth of Advent. I'm sick of killing the same 3 faggots every single mission.

Different teams are better at different things, some have a better understanding of the engine, some simply have different feature sets, XCOM 2 was inefficient at launch, but it wasn't unfinished.

It's definitely LW, equipment is from it and the colored health bars indicate it

Late game base defense in LW is a nightmare and a half. Very first wave dumps sectoids to eat some overwatch shots, followed by lids, a few mechtoids, and commanders out of LOS. You need to get damn lucky clearing that out, because if things go bad and things take time, before you know it the flier wave of disks, floaters, heavy floaters, and seekers come at you while you're unprepared.

Yeah it sucks, I do expect eventually the code will be cracked. Maybe Firaxis will have mercy on us and release more faces with the expansion, or prefereably release more faces and fix things up so modders can start importing/making their own.

Sort of how like they made the extra customization slots for Anarchy's children, but also released those customization slots for everybody as a general patch. This was extra the greatest value of that DLC everyone forgets.

If you're playing LW, next time look into enabling Ironman and then ticking off Bronzeman in the second wave options. It allows you to restart missions, which Ironman disables. It's a really great tool to cure savescumming. If something goes wrong at the start, sure, restart. If the mission is nearly done and a guy gets crit to death, you're not going to go for the restart button because you have to re-do the entire mission.

Assault gets the Viper Armor. With the insanely good crit boosting perks, I can go balls out with a run and gun, incapacitate a guy with the armor, crit another to death with the axe, then murder another with a shotgun

RAGE armor is a tough one, but I slapped it on my Gunner. Since the ability doesn't cost any actions, I can use it to reposition my gunner in balls out assaults for better shots. One of the last perks the gunner can get is fucking monstrous but requires both actions and has an aim penalty, so being able to reposition close to the enemy with this armor is really good.

Icarus armor went on my ranger. Since they have light em up as well as a lot of other shit, you can really fuck over ayy positions. Fly behind them to flank them all, take out an isolated ayy, and then sat fire the rest.

I tried 94Com. I can't get into it at all. It's just so freaking slow having to move 14+ dudes one at a time, and you can't move anyone else in the interim. So you have 14+ actions that take like 10 seconds each turn. Then the reaction fire rules always just seem to fuck me. My dudes don't move, but never seem to get reaction shots. Meanwhile my dude farts next to an alien, and he unloads his whole clip in them.

Meh. I'll give it a shot again at some point, but god damn is it tedious compared to EW/XCOM 2. As for what I'm playing instead, replaying games I've beaten already like Ori and the Blind Forest, and some weeb shit for fun.

Just squad wiped on a clutch facility assault because of a stupid mistake and a 1 hp left sectopod wrecked my team and lead to a squadwipe. First playthrough with Legend Ironman. Probably should have played commander but I honestly almost made it through despite all my wrong choices with research and buildings.

Reaction fire is a risk I never take in 94com. The mechanics of it are consistent if you know the game rules, but if you know the game rules you know that relying on it is a fools errand.

In perfectly optimal play, you will never see an alien on their turn, and only on yours. Yes, the ultimate tactic really is break los. Its way easier to achieve in og x-com though and you should be abusing smoke grendades since they are the most powerful item in the entire game.

Also make sure to turn up friendly unit speed, watching the animation for you're guys walking around takes a suprising amount of time.

If you did any .ini editing for Long War it's pretty much the exact same thing. Just finding the correct value and changing them. Just remember that when you want to edit mods you need to find the actual mod ini files, not the standard ones kept in the steam folder.

Honestly I'd say you still got alot of stuff to still uncover in the game from equipment, to tech, to plot, to world-building. Make sure to read everything, it helps you play the game and understand what is going; definitely more fun.

No technically nothing is going to rewrite the entire formula, but tech advances will significantly change how you fight battles.
Personally I found the plot stuff to be pretty cool, was actually a big part of what kept me going.

Hyperwave decoder extends your radar range and tells you:
a) Size of ship
b)Type of ship
c) What faction
d) Mission type

Once you have the hyperwave decoder, the game really changes. You can play much more strategically, picking and choosing your battles. Who do you want to fight that month? What kind of missions do you want to prevent? Who's just a little too tough for you right now? Who or what would be a waste of your time? What equipment should I bring vs. this faction?
etc etc etc

Definitely great in my opinion, you can start to really decide what you want to do and why. The more you read up and understand everything in the game (factions strengths and weaknesses, ,mission types, what type of units are on each ship, what tech/supplies and hostages you currently need) the better you can evaluate which missions to go on, and which to pass by and how you should approach them.

A surprising number of missions in PirateZ are really 100% optional.

I threw a mimic beacon out too far and a turret in the fog killed it instead of distracting the sectopod. The sectopod was meant to die eitherway but I rolled min damage and it was left with 1 health which the mimic should have protected against.

Silencer's don't stop all noise, and most of the time when a silencer is used to disguise the noise of a firearm, they have to use subsonic ammunition, this is reflected in the damage loss in the mod. Not that guy but conventional rounds are supersonic and a sizable portion of the noise comes from the shockwave hence why for covert ops in the real world it's common to pair subsonic rounds with suppressors.

Now mag weapons are coilguns and wouldn't produce the same amount of noise gunpowder weapons do (unless a small powder charge is used to boost the round through the coils initially I guess) and would probably be inherently quieter even with the supersonic round causing a cracking noise. Maybe a faint electrical whine from the rather large charges needed to propel a round at such speeds.

Still, one of the main things to remember is suppressors don't actually completely silence a weapon, especially high caliber shots. But they do make it significantly harder to determine the origin point of the shot.

Now how it works for a highly visible beam of plasma is anyones guess.

It's 5AM here so I missed the obvious conclusion that since a coilgun would probably be quieter than a conventional firearm due to the lack of explosive chemical propellant and less visible due to the resulting lack of muzzle flash they'd probably be automatically suppressed, at least compared to gunpowder weapons, and a fitted suppressor wouldn't actually do shit and making the round subsonic still wouldn't need a separate muzzle attachment since it'd just be a power toggle you could flip on the side.

IS there a guide or anything for XPiratez? I just started and it's kind of offputting. I can get used to no ranged weapons to begin with, but watching all the ships sail over my base being unable to effectively follow them outside of radar or shoot them down with my crappy airbus already makes me feel like I've fucked the game.

I don't know of any guides, but honestly you can play it blind just fine. I'm stumbled my way through the entire game. It purposefully actually has alot of info build into the game.

Shooting down faction craft is not the standard operating procdure for early game. Stalk ships and see if you can get them when you land. You'll know when you should start shooting down ships because you will actually start developing related tech (fights, weapons, thrustsers).

I'll give a few tips though. Never sell anything, or at least not completely. Almost everything in the game can be researched and can be used to manufacture other things. If you only have a few of an item, try not to sell them all if you can.
Get captives. Lot's of them. Good for research and slaves. Read everything in the Bootypaedia. Everything.

Also to add to this, shooting down ships makes factions more angry and more likely to launch base assaults. Those are very difficult early when they bust out the power armor and plasma weapons.

To be more helpful, for the first few months to a year, you're not going to be able to intercept ships, only to land at the area they land at.

The airbus has one major advantage: a door. Use it. Be cowardly.

If you want to sell something, maybe ask here first. There are a bunch of things you can sell, but all of us who have played have been fucked by at least one thing where we sold it and then needed it later. The tech tree is convoluted as all hell.

Feel free to ask questions if you are ever curious about something, I or one of the other players will probably answer you.

I think the most fair tweak, is the a mod that basically tweaks everything so it takes twice as long, so everything happens in slower increments. Interceptions last twice as long and hits do half as much damage, something like that. Pretty sure its on Nexus. If I start another campaign i might try it out.

Depends on your playstyle really.

I like specializing my troops towards 1-2 things, so bringing along one of each class was usually the best move for me. Sometimes I'd drop the medic for more firepower, until psi hit anyway and I needed to train medics to be gods.

Others like generalizing troops into performing multiple tasks, so for them bringing along one of each wouldn't really have much of an effect.

There's other variables as well, such as if you like certain classes or not. Some people hate rocketeers because of their early shit aim and the need to setup with steady aim, but I loved them because thanks to HEAT shredders, they were my Fuck Off button when it came to swarms of drones and seekers.

It's pretty safe to just roll with one of each, but you can go deeper and really optimize squads for missions if you want. I looked at Beagle's squad spreadsheet for longwar once and the level of planning blew my mind, he had precise build combinations for every single map/mission combo.

The only missions you should be doing initially are the monthy watch tower, ratman rodeo, radscorpion hunt, etc

Yeah EMP is extremely strong. AOE damage on a cooldown and disables all mechanical units for a turn. You can alternate with other emp and disabling shots to prevent sectopods from getting anything done while everyone else smacks at its 50% damage resistance.

>Many of my Mass Effect ports are just gonna be outfit ports, like Jack, Miranda, Kasumi, Shepard's N7 armor for M and F, but many others will be more complex. I figured this all out while working on my Legion model. I found that assigning some of the facial rig bones from the xcom armature (Blender lingo) onto the Legion mesh, it animated in-game quite beautifully. For example, I assigned the vertex groups of the side flip thingies on Legion's head, to the bones "MouthCornerR" and "MouthCornerL". In-game, the animation is still the same base set for soldiers, so whenever an animation moves those vertices, the flips moved accordingly. Applied the same mechanic to the top flips, side flips, and jaw flips, and they all move differently depending on what Attitude you select. It's awesome. Not only in and of itself, but also because it tells me that with enough patience, we can actually port ANY head mesh from ANY game or anywhere really, and apply the proper vertex groups (I'm currently testing this on my Garrus model).

Is it just one specific mission that crashes? If so, what type of mission is it and what type of terrain are you on? If you have save scumming enabled, you can load a geoscape autosave and play the mission again hopefully sans whatever element is causing the crash. Try toggling options like auto-end battles or anything else that might trigger at the end of a mission.

I just get this when I try to run it from dosbox. Been a long time since I've done anything with dosbox so I'm a bit confused. I mounted the Spellcross folder to drive F and am running the exe from there. The readme says

"To install the game in DOS type in:

install <RETURN>

at the Dos CD ROM prompt."

but when I try that I just get an "Illegal command" error. Blarg.

Alot of stuff actually works with the DLC and FUTURE OPS should include this line:

MOD TROUBLE SHOOTING #1 STEP: Delete all ini files inside "My Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config" folder, make sure you have the mods selected in launcher and run the game. This fixed my issue when any mod stopped working.

I'm assuming you are on version .99? Probably at this point, if your confident you followed all the install instructions you are gonna have to make a forum post.

Alternatively, just install an entire different instance of the game somewhere else and test skirmish mode. Sorry you are having so much trouble. If you still can't get it to work, I noticed you said you hadn't played any og x-com, which is definitely worth your time, maybe while you wait for the forum response. That's all I got.

Just that after ironman legending 2 I went back to EW and I'm having trouble even beating the first mission. I only beat it on ironman commander when it first came out.

Not even sure what would make it harder for me. Maybe the maps. They are a lot more open in 2 I guess. I guess I just have to get used to it again. Learning all the air game and build order again is gonna be a pain. Especially since I never played EW more than once.
