You should aim to be over 300. At 350 you'll find both gems in roughly equal quantities. Bear in mind that every enemy in Farron keep can drop both gem types, so that roomfull of slugs after the 2nd bonfire is a ideal for farming.

I wouldn't try to block the fire attack, it seems the best way to avoid that is to run toward his tail and pray the AoE doesn't mysteriously catch you anyway. But blocking the landing would surely help, since he normally stands around for a bit after landing?

I feel the opposite way. I want to really like it, it's a battle with a giant ancient dragon on a huge arena atop a dragon-infested mountain. The score is great, the setting is great, the design is great, but the actual battle is just 5 minutes of hitting his toes and then running away with your fingers crossed.

The dragon fight before had a similar problem, but it just had way less health and it's AoE attacks were very easy to dodge. They might actually be kind fun if they didn't spend 80% of the fight in the air out of reach.

Tailcuts were a very common complaint. People didn't hate that they existed, but they hated how finnicky and obnoxiously difficult some of them were to perform.

Not a trhread went by anywhere on the internet at any time while DaS1 was relevant that didn't have at least 1 person raging over seath or kalameet's tailcut

It's nice that destroying a part of an enemy is rewarding, but it's just goddamn silly that a weapon which could define an entire build in the way that the MLGS does, would be trapped behind what amounts to an obnoxious and poorly implemented minigame. Dark Souls isn't monster hunter and locking game content behind something as asinine as chasing the arbitrary hitbox roughly around the top of an enemy's tail is not a meaningful mechanic. The only reason people are so fond of it is because autistic challenge-runners jump at any extra hoop to jump through just to give them another excuse to squeeze more pve playtime out of a souls game, even if that means bunch Yhorm to death with bare fists for 2 and a half hours straight, or waiting for Kalameet to do the only move in his set that exposes his tail some 7 times so you can cut it before he dies.

Kalameet's tailcut isn't that bad once you know how to do it. Seath's tailcut is way worse. It's quite obvious that you are supposed to get the tailcut by making Seath break his own crystal to get enough time to reach the tail. Sometimes you just don't have enough DPS to get the tailcut, and you'll end up chashing the tail while it clips through the walls, becoming impossible to reach.

This thing is such a piece of shit. Punishingly accurate hit box compared to everything else in the game which has miles of phantom range. Pretty shit damage even fully upgraded. Attacks are slow as fuck. Weapon art is slow, impossible to fucking hit with and keeps your character frozen in a retarded stance and easy to hit for several seconds. You can't even kick people with it because the kick is replaced with some little space creating back step that is completely unfunctional as a dodge. And if whoever you're fighting is capable of parrying you're cunted because R1 can be parried, R2 can be parried, WA can be parried, shitty kick replacement can be parried, and what retard gets hit by a jumping attack?

I've started playing Dark Souls recently without any previous experience, I've made a warrior and kept putting exp in both STR and DEX thinking this will allow me to make more damage and make my attack faster. 1. Learn spacing.

2. Pretty much never bother with the WA on most Rapiers. Your bread and butter is the R1s with the occasional R2 to mix things up.

3. BE AGGRESSIVE OR PASSIVE. Rapiers excel at close range pressure or acting as a threat for people closing in due to the speed of the R1s.

The AR of a 40/40 Irithyll Rapier should be more then enough to compensate for the few weaknesses it has, even with a lack of a varied moveset.
