Make all that junk flying past further back, so it's very clear that it's not part of the foreground. And make the ship's bullet at least 3 times bigger and 2 times faster.

Still fucking me up every time I play it though, it really triggers some kind of primal panic in me

I'm still looking for cute grills to voice act for the lamb, so far I have gotten one really good response so feels kinda douchy looking for more but hey if i'm gonna invest money in this I want it to be as good as humanly possible.

Also, are there any like freelance sound-engineers out there I could hire to add soundeffects to my game? I find it really hard to make/find good fitting ones.

Not specified in Revelations which is what I'm referencing, and it also isn't a true "god", the whole point of it is that the lamb is tainted, so it being a female makes sense in the context.

1. Get a pack of ice.

3. Stop eating a varied diet
4. Get hypothermia by bathing in ice way to long
5. Get high fever
6. Put cardboard on

I posted in here a few days ago about how to make a function callback that could work with non-static objects, but I couldn't get it to work. Because my buttons use function callbacks, and they can only work with static objects; I cannot make a button that changes a non-static object. I have a text field that displays a number, which I need to change upon pressing a button. Since I can't update the text when the button is pressed, my only choice is to update it every frame.
I know, that's my fault, I really need to work on getting those callbacks fixed, but that still doesn't explain why this function would take up 10 megs of RAM, but only once.

Yeah, that. Maybe make it so that nothing casts a shadow on the surface, everything does, or maybe just show that the island is in fact a tall column, that was jus invisible under the darkness. Either way, the way it looks now seems weird.

It's the responses that seem to have completely ignored the "This is a work in progress" bit I put in the top of the post that bug me. I try to keep the text short, and all the relevant bits are right under the image, so it's frustrating when it's ignored.

Well this is the code for the callbacks and buttons. I learned it from a gamedev book, it seems to work fine, except for the fact that it can only work with static objects. http://hastebin.com/ocasovuvaq.vala
In another file, I create some static functions, then push them into a vector. Then I create some buttons, and loop through the callback vector and call buttons->setCallback();
In the button's "update" function I check if the mouse is down, then I just write "callback()"

(ignore the blood position, they are not tied together)

So what I do is that I have a parameter collection for the grass mat, and the grass is normal foliage actors.
The parameter collection then has a value "Death Z" and "Z Width".

It then compares(using an IF node) the Death Z to the absolute world position of the pixel/vertex, if Death Z is higher than the AWP then the IF node returns 0.

If however Death Z is lower, it returns a value clamped between 0 and 1 by dividing the difference in Z with the Z Width.

So with this output from the IF node you can drive this kind of effect, for me it both drives the blending between to mats to make the grass browner as it "dies" aswell as a world position offset value (Object position - AWP) * (If out value).

Looks really shitty if you "Pause it" due to me not bothering with something smarter with the WPO but, as with all good materials, you can cheat if you can and the fact it looks shitty doesn't show up in VR when it moves, just looks like the grass is wilting. And when the IF node returns 1 the WPO always make it collapse into nothingness.

To fix it to look better if it moves slower etc you could just scale the WPO's x/y/z differently

Yeah, what sucks though is that you can't drive parameter collections from sequencer, I have to call an event in the level blueprint which has a separate timeline.

The shadow issue is odd, it works in-editor, but not otherwise. I think it has to due with it being a masked material, currently just using a second island under the first one with a opaque mat which casts the shadow properly, which looks alright for now.

MUTEKI dev here.

I fixed a bug that made voxels randomly disappear or fall off after being added to your ship. Turns out that my floodfill/continuity check co-routine did have a causality issue. It just comes up when building as opposed to destroying. I'm still trying to put all my ideas for the debris grabbing interface down on paper, so no progress there yet.

Tactical turn based RPG, the theme is mecha. You maintain a squad of pilots and mechs. Each pilot has their own strengths and weaknesses, and each mech can be customized similar to many other mech games.
Game play is similar to Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, position your units, attack enemies, use abilities, etc. And outside of battle you can work on your team.

Honestly, this looks like something you should just get close to done then steam greenlight.

Kickstarter is for really ambitious projects in my opinion. Projects you wouldn't be able to complete without more resources then you currently have.

alright this feels really cool, I think i've figured out a nice feeling system that still looks organic. basically when you aren't upright, you have really high friction. what this means is that it's both easy to correct your orientation, and it's also likely to happen on its own

It looks like your tank sticks a bit to the green wall during the jump, maybe consider tweaking how far off from upright you have to be to trigger the higher friction.

Or if there is a way to set the walls that you don't want to be sticky, with a material that has zero or close to it friction.

How does one write nice, loosely-coupled code?
I'm working on an engine in C++ and SDL and I always end up writing code where modules depend on each other and need to know about the workings of the others to function correctly.

Do I need to make more interfaces such that the actual working of modules is irrelevant as long as its conforms to an interface?

Gosh, it's a lot. I'm getting caught up on writing beautiful code.

class State {
private:
function<void()> updateText();
};
And then in the .cpp file:
function<void()> State::updateText = [=](){

I don't know the specifics, but if you already have the GameObject it probably wouldn't be too bad, but it's stupid. A much more efficient way would be by using GetComponent in the Awake() function and setting to a class variable, then acting on that variable in update.

From what I understand, you want to avoid doing it by caching the result on Start or Awake. It won't kill performance if you need to do it, though.

Well they're not exactly something you can compare, you can compare opengl to d3d if you want. In which case it's the same concepts, just different API functions, it wasn't too hard to transition from GL to that especially with all the documentation.

If you're just looking to use C++ for 2D games I'd recommend SFML, SDL's default renderer isn't good which pretty much forces you to use OpenGL, in which case you end up doing the same as SFML.

You could go different directions for that, depending on what you mean.

Is it designed just for holding as many people as possible? Then look at prisons, factory farms, maybe capsule hotels. Look at brutalist architecture. Use hard angles, lots of rectangles and cubes, absolutely no detail that would have cost the builders extra. Maybe also look at 19th-20th century ships, and Ellis Island immigration photos.

Or you could trying to keep the people inside as happy as possible, like a human zoo. Then go for softer shapes.

I also have a thread worth of commieblock images, I think.

I see a lot of game where 'going fast' is a theme.

If you had to pick one over the other, do you feel that 2D or 3D lends to better going fast experiences, and why?

3D because you can see what's in front of you and plan accordingly, which is not possible with 2D view

If you get momentum, it feels fucking amazing to breeze trough a level of SMW or DKC. In 3D, when you can go fast, you usually can only do that for a limited time, and it's mostly a tactical thing. It doesn't feel fun, you just do it because you have to do it.

I prefer 3D for fast, because obviously you can see further.
2D can work in some instances. Super Meat Boy felt fast and controller well. But even games like Sonic, it felt like you never knew what was ahead of you, so you never really had a sense of control. But I guess with widescreens of today that may be less of a problem than old 4:3 ratio.

So yesterday I set up a second top-down camera to try and generate a minimap, but it didn't work at all because the camera was using a perspective matrix. There is no way to set that specific camera (scene capture 2d) to orthographic, so I thought I was screwed. Luckily, someone had posted on Unreal Answers some code modifications to add ortho to the camera. Unfortunately, I spent basically all last night downloading the UE4 source, compiling, etc.

It does work though. I'm not exactly sure how I should tweak settings to get a better minimap (other than making less crappy levels). I'll probably have to hide all dynamic objects. I'm not sure what to do about the trees... I don't want to turn them off but maybe I could just make everything half as dense or something. Not sure how to do that yet though.

Still a lot of placeholder art but I've got a working demo of my game. It's a 1-4 player twin-stick game where you compete for points - the bigger the enemy, the more points you get. You can time it to blow them up at the right moment for more points, or concentrate on blasting your opponents to reduce theirs.

What I need to do next is introduce a broader enemy variety with projectile attacks - ideally the larger you make the enemy, the larger/stronger their attack patterns get as well.

We already know that he didn't make the assests for the enviroments himself. It's still extremely impressive work no matter how you try to pull it. Putting things together and making them work is the hardest thing in game development and that's by far not the only things he has done. This general should be able to appreciate that effort the best, seeing how people show off single screenshots where you can see even in that one screenshot the game is completely unfinished. Maybe it's because the people in here are very low skill that they can't appreciate the effort.

the problem is we don't know the quality of the things he purchased. he may have purchased the entire combat system for all we know, including animations and effects, and he put them in a landscape which he also purchased. or he made everything. it's either not impressive at all, or really impressive. we all already know that money can get you things that look great, but none of us here have thousands of dollars to buy this stuff, so until we know more about it, you have to view it a bit conservatively.

that said, the end goal is to make a good-looking game that is fun to play, and it seems like he's on track to do that.
>>

>>
>>150123996
There are all kind of assets you can get for free or pirate. Naturally you don't have anything to show me. Hell, not too long ago crytek sold a shitload of their assets for pennies. In 10 years you couldn't create something on that level of the trailer.

Sorry bro but you can't just buy a AAA game to your specifications for $10,000. The delusion that quality games come from people who have money is a dangerous one.

Just because you can buy some nice looking trees and rocks (every AAA dev has resources like these (and you can get some similar stuff for cheap or even free), just like every serious music/audio producer has collections of recordings and sampled instruments), doesn't mean that you suddenly have a game. There is massively more that goes into creating a cohesive game than that.
>>
>>150123686
>the helmet looks weird this big.

Its fine man. Maybe still too small even. Most games with helmets make the helmet impossibly small to look good, but you have to remember that the helmet needs to fit over a human head. Its gonna look big proportionally.
>>
>>150124602

If it has a a beginning, middle, and an end, it's a complete game. Doesn't matter if it doesn't have the same 400 hours of content as a game made by like 500 people in a company with many more resources most indie devs will ever have in their lifetimes.

The armatures represent a two meter tall person, the big cube is the whole season, the little cube is per relation. I wouldn't want an unplanned encounter with either amount, but the smaller cube is a lot less then I thought.

Somewhere around six single whales worth looks like it might be viable for debuff/status ailment though, so multiple whale might be the direction I go.

Blue whales tend to be solitary compared to humpback and sperm whales that travel in groups of 10+ and the names offer more in the way of puns. (As I wrote that I thought, huh, if I name it a Blueballs whale that could be pretty funny too).
>>
>>150124738
It is. I'm not trying to say what he's done isn't good or anything. But I do think people should be a little more realistic in their praise. He's done a great job, but to say he's made a game is objectively false. People see the trailer and are going "wow he made an entire game by himself and it's better than FFXV" and that's not the case at all.

The most default basic fluid setup in blender.

(The default cube is considered to be one cubic meter for simulations)

Create one cube, scale as appropriate.(This one represents your volume of liquid)

Create a second cube, scale up such that it is larger then the other one (think of this as your fish tank so to speak)

Fish tank cube gets a fluid modifier of type Domain.

Fluid cube gets modifier of type fluid. Bake the simulation and then ctrl + A and enjoy!

Oh I'm so sorry I didn't think you where actually retarded!
And since you are so new, let me let you in on a secret: People often explain scenarios in third person because it makes it way clearer what they are talking about, see this is how it would have looked if I spoke in first person:

>The guy asking how to compare 2 numbers in an game dev general calls me, that is the guy that called him out for shitposting, a shitposter himself

See how much harder that sentence was to understand? And how many letters I saved by writing out the scenario in third person while still containing all the information?

And no, you can tell your mommy I'm not interested to come to your dress up party.

yes
Source(s): I am a retired police officer. I retired as a sergeant, after 29 years, from a very large department, about 12,000 officers. I was a patrol officer for 4 years in a very diverse area. I was a tactical officer in the high rise project areas of my city. We called it vertical patrol in that we walked the the stairways of the high rises most of the time. I did that for 5 years and was promoted by test to detective. I worked violent crime (homicide, sex, officer involved shootings, robbery, kidnapping, serious non property incidents) for 11 years until I was promoted to sergeant. I worked as a street supervisor, a bicycle patrol supervisor and a desk sergeant/watch commander.
During my time as a tactical officer and a detective I was a unit representative for the police union.
I have a B.A in English and an M.S. in Law Enforcement Administration

I've been trying to avoid using built in events if I don't need to, but I'll give it a try. Thanks anon.

You must really like writing me long winded responses. Keep going if it makes you happy Anon. I know I shouldn't respond to shitposters but it's funny to watch you attempt to act all cool and shit.

We are anonymous mate, no point in acting cool. I'm just having a laugh at you is all.

You have to understand its satisfying for most people, schadenfreude, to see people like yourself be so extremely triggered when you get called out for being so madingly dumb and childish.

But hey since you are new to 4chan this whole anon thing hasn't quite caught with you yet.

>Hurr i'm not triggered

I'm just a shitposter and you got so mad you replied 4 times mate

Wew lad, the irony. Got any more awesome responses for me? Had a bad day? Just venting?
Either that or you're just a cunt. :^)

I should probably let you know, if you're looking to get the last word in the thread it's not going to happen. There's usually some rando who posts the same anime girl image at the near end of every thread, and if people post after that then he starts spamming posts until the archive.
>>
>>150133452
trial and error D&D yourself
then convert shit to code using the manual

Who the fuck tries to get the last post in a thread?
The first I can get, but the last?
>>
>>150134125
>Who the fuck tries to get the last post in a thread?

Usually people in an argument who want the last word (and have their opponent/s be unable to respond back like it makes them magically 'win' that argument), like what's going on right now.
>>
>>150134125
A weeb with literally no life. There was a good couple months where they ended every thread with the shush anime girl and started every thread with the disgust disney girl. That weeb was pretty obsessed with rotatedev's penis. Making these posts was very important for him.

I believe it was proven to be dogposter. We see so much less dogposting these days.
>>
>>150133902
What would be the point of moving it over to code if it already works with D&D?
Aren't there things in code that immediately only exist within code and not D&D?
