I wish this was posting earlier. My cousin got upset when I started winning after asking him how to tech throws and the running dash things since he lost the playing manual and didn't give me time to look anything up.

He switched to the dark Jin and the other characters that have the full-screen ranged attacks and started spamming them afterwards. I wish they mapped jumping/crouch or the move up/down vertically to different buttons so it wouldn't mix the two when trying to avoid those ranged attacks.

Why couldn't they have just mapped jump and crouch to different buttons? Half the time I was trying to move to avoid the ranged spam, it ended up just being empty jumps and crouching.

I'm not going to play competitively, so I'm not going to spend hours in the training room, mind you; just wanted to learn enough to avoid getting meme'd on. I was doing fine anyhow after the first ~30 min of playing until he started abusing the ranged skills, albeit I wasn't actually doing combos due to not knowing almost any of them.

in general, you just tap stuff. i assume you're on pad, so honestly that should be pretty natural, just tapping directions like buttons. i'd tell you that the game was designed with pad in mind being a 4 buttons fighter (with 4 face buttons being standard for consoles), but that's just a coincidence.

the obvious solution, as other 3d fighters have, is to map a guard button and allow you to change states (stand by default, crouch, jump) by guarding first; this way, it doesn't matter how long you hold it, you will be in that state once you opt into it via guarding and pressing up or down. dedicated buttons for changing your character's state sounds incredibly weird. could work, but it's never how any fighting game has ever done it, to my knowledge.

dead or alive has the option to change the sidestep method to a dash input (up, up and down, down) instead of a tap input (up, neutral and down, neutral).

I own one and yes, although I'd encourage you to consider the TE2+ as well since it's effectively the same price and offers some really nice features the Omni doesn't like mappable L3/R3 buttons, tool-less opening, no-slip felt on the bottom, and modular cord (this esp I am jelly of. The omni has no compartment to store the cord in or anything, you just have to shove it in a wad or something when transporting it). The advantages of the Omni are the Noir layout: different curve to the buttons and wider distance between the stick and buttons which I prefer, the mod-ability (fully modular internals in the newest revision, support for all stick and button manufactures, super easy art swaps, etc) and obviously the all-metal construction and understated aesthetics. Smaller form factor as well.
