Thanks man. I'm building in hills, but if not for the resources, I'd flee to the plains. I guess my settlement will just have to look like a mess for a while. Pity we can't get some verticality going, as walkways in ramshackle space-colonies are the best.

I actually quite like this idea, but besides taking loads of resources it would be labor intensive as fuck. Unfortunately, getting more labor means more settlers which means more houses, so I just don't see it ever being an option.

this is a cheap copy, not df - moods and personalities dont influence crafts - only skill level and rng do, so there is no need for that.

just set the min max skill levels in details of bill at workshop, max 5 for say making rock blocks and whatever your highest craft lvl is as minimum for weapons armor and whatever else can have quality modifiers.

and use a mod to disable the fucking skill decay, its utterly moronic - i had a base with max pop, constant hunting via manager and 15 was my highest lvl shooter after six years. same shit with no decay - couple twenties in three years.

df does all things rimworld only on a much larger scale with much deeper interactions, a good bit of fun is to just read the combat log or item descriptions. whether you like it depends on your tolerance for a poor learning curve, but there is a lot of fun to be had defending against sieges and building self sufficient bases over multiple z levels and making deadly traps which actually work.

I like going in tactical, last siege I was outgunned and outnumbered but still won. I rushed in with my sniper to get their attention while they were building, secretly I sent in the rest of my men to their backs and caught them by surprise. 2 melee cunts with shields that were building there noticed us and charged at us, so I unleashed my boar minions to deal with them while the rest of the men fired on them. I sent my grenadier so he can love grenades at their snipers that are behind cover. He hits one of them and they break but by this time the men that were fighting their melees had dealt with them and rushed in to cut their retreat. Everyone is gunned down as they try to run and I claim all their loot. I leave the boddies of the dead to feed my pig minions.

gore was not about the graphics - it was something new in fighting games where you directly interact with another player, somewhat "forbidden".
and while df looks much messier with its tileset visuals and nonlinear movement the liquid physics and blood / vomit smearing all over everything are quite the sight.

df doesnt have a proper fast forward button, fastdwarf in dfhack is just a cheat, so these days every time i start a new run i just end up going fastdwarf 1 because of the snail pace and then its an impregnable fort couple hours later.

i for one love building 30 z levels deep chasms under my entrance draw bridges and then checking out which body parts end up where after a caravan wants to leave.

i too had a couple of fun gunfights ALEPPO KOTEL style, but its a shame those are not all too viable considering encounter rate and how much effort the positioning takes. in the end there is nothing better than m24s from behind a sandwall-wall-sandwall line.

drm free and pirate extract into mods folder and run. For both pirate and steam, if you want to stay vanilla, enable only CCL and phi.
Pirate will find a textfile called phiserver in game directory, steam will find at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld
Open file and replace whatevers in it with 73.171.215.80.
Run game as normal, in game you should see a new tab near the right that says server.

They killed me more than the raiders did. At least the second raiders actually (really) killed zombies with some plasma weapons, but the friendlies and traders with their clubs and pistols are just more bodies for the Horde.

And to elaborate, I feel like the character creator is the most important decision you can make in the game. The difference between the best and the worst characters is absolutely staggering. Hell, even something like 4 flames compared to faggots with 1 flame and some maluses is already incredible. You just gain mountains of productivity with the right guys. Wood is super renewable. You can grow orchards of them in a growing zone, just click it and designate plant. They take a while to grow, but colonists automatically cut them when they're matured.

If you're having a wood problem (and you're not on a desert or whatever) you're probably relying on the wood burning furnace too much. Technologically beeline to the Geothermal research and dismantle your wood furnace to save your wood

Everyone should be able to haul, firefight, and clean, and nobody should have lingering wounds or a trait that reduces movement or work speed. I'll bend on those somewhat if someone is really good, though. And never, ever anyone with a negative mood trait, ex: depressive.

Growing and cooking is for access to the skill level restricted crops and recipes, medicine is to install prosthetics later without killing people, and construction is for comfy beds. Two shooters is because I've found hoping for my 4th or 5th colonist to have high shooting is too unreliable, and it makes holding off early raids easier.

Listed in order of importance;

This guy sits in your base and makes sure everyone stays alive. Level 6+ cooking is mandatory.

This guy is your Handyman, he does most of the basebuilding tasks. Getting Crafting skills or Green Thumb is definitely a plus but not mandatory.

This guy spends most of your time hauling shit around. Honestly, as long as he can shoot and haul shit, the other stats are irrelevant, although I use him to handle the usually low social of the other two colonists.

This will give you a strong early game. Pay attention to raiders and recruit based on what skills you are missing. Your general priority is going to be research > growing > crafting > animals > artistic if none of your starters have these attributes. Is it just me, or has the game gotten a fair bit harder since the last few versions?

I seem to either get wrecked by a sudden case of bad events slapping my shit, or suddenly a huge raid comes along and murders all my shit right as my primary guys decide it's time to wander around in a daze.

I used to be fine playing on Randy extreme but now I'm regularly getting my ass kicked on Randy challenge. Partially I have my self to blame for this since I decided I wanted to make the game take longer so I tripled research times, also flashstorms that can last half a day and are more frequent. Advanced bionics takes 60000 research on a tribal start. Maybe I need to do some rebalancing.

Simple meals are just fine for the early game. Besides, it's also a skill that grows like hell because it's done en masse every day, so someone who starts low but has 1-2 flames of passion will be level 5-10 by the time you fine or lavish meals.

In my opinions orks are just NPC race like mechanoids with it's own challenge. I've made then twice health of a human and some fancy guns with huge bullet spread - so they can hit your colonists only accidently. And each second or third shot is special - like frag rocket or flametrower. Or make their weapon melee so they charge into the close combat.
Tanks also special NPC enemy with fornt/side/rear armor wich ignores damage that is less than it's armor. So you need some powerful cannon to shot it in the face or to flank it with common weapon. While tank shoots at your positions with HEAT rounds and machinegun.

I've come into ownership of a rhino. The rhino is not happy about it.

He attacked my people as he is a man manhunting type, and I managed to lure him into a courtyard while another guy built walls to block the doors.

Is there a clean way of bringing him carcasses while he's sleeping? I figure if I get into a tight raider spot I can just let him out and barricade my guys indoors.

I think you've misunderstood how the temperature works in this game. Trust me though you aren't alone. I still struggle with it. As far as I know temperature leaks into other rooms as doors are opened. When there's a cold room and a hot room next to each other they try to even out if the walls are not thick. Someone mentioned you can insulate heat with a cold empty corridoor as a buffer. I have no idea what that means.

The important thing is that you can easily know where an escapee would go. That's why it's a good idea to have your prison deep within your base, so you know an escapee would likely meet colonists on his way out.

Tribe is hard in that it takes forever to unlock science shit and they are friends with only other tribes so your trading partners show up with fucking wooden clubs to trade and that's it.

I went Phoebe Chillax and tribe and I ended up putting over 50 hours into that save. She still hits hard enough to try and ruin your colony, but the worst part is I never see traders in comm range and my trading partners are terrible.

If only you could persuade one of the pirate factions to just fucking chill up so you can trade tech with them. I was always in need of bionic limbs and arms and the raids happened so seldom that I hardly had prisoners to recruit.

Phoebe, Rough and Tribe is by far the comfiest setting I've had with challenge involved and fun.

Well, since my colony has been ruined by this 50% casualty rate, I decided to breach the wall to the strange room that was located just next to the cave my tribe lived in.
This was my first time opening such a room.

Inside, I found a scyther, a pair of psychic devices, and a cryostasis pod. I had my chief fight the robot in an honourable duel : he managed to kill it with the shotgun he got from the defeated mercenaries. He was hit once though, and lost a foot from the attack.

I then opened the pod. What was inside ?

It was a man. A space soldier, of the reject class. He wasn't hostile. I couldn't interact with him in any way. i was tempted to attack him and try to capture him, but I realized he was carrying a very advanced weapon. So I let him go. He got out of the room, ventured into the wild, threw up, and left the map.

That was weird as fuck.

They're different numbers for spacers, because apparently in 3500 years, we couldn't figure out some decent fucking FTL, so everyone has to ride between the stars in suspended animation for years, decades or centuries and the distance between stars is at its furthest in the rim.

So i've been continuing work on the save editor and i've gotten it to a presentable state

Fun tip. Always have a 1x1 critical storage zone near every entrance to your base for stone or steel. In emergencies you can rapidly wall off your entire colony and most shit will leave you alone

I tried the more Vanilla Turrets mod and it's great for surviving end-game where your Vulcan Turrets just mows down the savages. This inspired me to make a primitive defense mod which have low tech turrets/traps that are more resource intensive than vanilla

An Alpaca Wool duster I have gives -15C and +15C tolerance I just checked, same as Muffalo Wool
But I also checked a cloth duster and it gave the exact same amounts so I've no idea if it's accurate

But a tuque gives -2C heat tolerance (makes it worse) whereas a Cowboy hat gives +8C
But the tuque also gives -10C for the cold whereas Cowboy hat does not help for the cold at all

Then I made a bill at the furnace to burn any clothes below 50% durability.

Tip: Remember if you roof a geyser, even if enclosed into a geothermal generator, will exert insane amounts of heat if roofed in and will cook colonists alive.

Use wider areas, or a vent leading to a small 1x1 room with no roof to vent out excess heat or simply leave it completely unroofed. A chimney is a good way to push out unwanted heat but it also lets in unwanted cold, so it's a good idea to make a vent lead to an unroofed area or a "chimney".

In Zones you can tell your colonists which areas to not build roofs on or where to remove them. Some mountain edge areas can be unroofed but not deep mountain roofing.

What are the pros and cons of building your base inside a mountain compared to simply making buildings outside ?

Pros:
Safer from raids, requires fewer resources, as you mine to expand you'll naturally discover more resource nodes, smoothed stone floors are some of the highest beauty

Cons:
Slower to build, power generation and farming are hard to do indoors, infestations, accidentally discovering ancient gribblies

It may seem like a good idea but so many things can go wrong...
Have a few emergency exits but make sure the main one is more attractive to attackers.

Watch out for room temps when there is a fire and dont even think about burnin the bugs out, no matter how cool that idea may be.

I just made a bionic ear with 40 plasteel or so and installed it on Susy, who had her ear blown off by friendly fire last season

It went very smoothly, no ill effects at all

Feels good man, I'll try doing it again when I get more plasteel.
I have a 75 year old guy with cataract in both eyes, a frail torso and a bad spine. Maybe I can fix him up.

Just got infestation with only 5 overhead mountain. thought they only spawn at over 50 overhead mountain. 2 hives spawned left to the sunlamps with 3 of thos megacarab things.
Atleast only McLean lost a leg and a Muffalo died.

Is it possible to change your tech level ? If you're a tribe, you have terrible modifiers to research time. Is it possible tog et rid of these ?
