Eh, to each their own. It's not that I think it's a technical marvel, I just like it in the same sense someone would say something is "catchy".
To be fair though, as a guitarist/bassist, I can tell when a composer is having difficulty trying to capture the "image" of a song but the instrumentals don't quite make it, or they're just trying too hard. Not like these guys actually live in the limited niche genre that they're trying to write, since a metal song is a far cry from electronic pop or even light rock. I think Platinum Stars is a decent first-game purchase for anyone who hasn't played the other games before because its not like you would have access to the old songs/choreography anyways. And it's even better in this game with the engine and all that, so its worth purchasing over the older titles. Thats gameplay aside, and assumes that you only cared about the music and idols. And that you enjoy the rhythm aspect.
If you're looking for an iM@S game more in line with the older titles and/or a management/raising sim though definitely skip this one. Or even if you bought any previous iM@S game actually. Consider just waiting for 3rd vision. I'm sure none of you are surprised to hear this though what with all the content and previews that were available pre-release.
That is my verdict after 20 hours of the vanilla game for those who are on the fence. Who knows what the DLC will bring though so I would still follow the game if you dont have it.

Alright, I finally managed to clear an idol's route in Platinum Stars.
I can now confirm that you must clear the game with at least one idol to unlock Master difficulty.
Here's some tips for the other players here who haven't reached this point yet (or don't have their copy of the game yet):
The worst part of the grind is bridging the 100k+ fan gap between C and B rank.
The fastest way to bridge this gap is to get to 3-4 memory appeals (easy if you have a memory +1 costume) and then just spam the level 2 paid job/dice minigame. You'll get 11k fans for a Good, at least 16k for a Perfect (I was getting 17.6k). And with 4 dice it's trivially easy to get a Perfect.
Thankfully you do not have to get to A rank (which requires another 800k fans) to beat the game. You just have to EX clear all 5 lives in the EX Road to do the Extreme Live. And at that point, the final performance is more or less a victory lap.
Once you've cleared the game at least once, clear a song on Pro to unlock its Master version (previous clears don't count). If you played a song on Pro during your final performance, Master difficulty will unlock for that song after the credits roll.
That being said, WOW, is this the most fucking nothing game in the mainline. I think even Shiny Festa had more content than this.
The next mainline game better step it up big time because, I'm sorry to say, Platinum Stars really is not worth the price tag in its current state.
