Jax's Q outranges Darius' E, so getting back out is never really a problem. Early game trades mostly tend to involves getting in his face and E'ing to minimize Q damage and completely dodge his W, W'ing him back before stunning him and then Q'ing out to safety.

The thing with most champions, and as I find Jax especially, as long as you know what your opponent's abilities do, you can play around them.
Take Akali for example. The combo is Q, ult then E. With Jax, as soon as she Q's, E'ing stops her from auto attacking you, meaning she can't consume the mark. It also means her E does less damage, really fucking the combo.

He is incredibly easy to counter. Anybody which can stay inside his Q (Or outside) will easily win. Kayle is the easiest to play counter, she;s completely safe against him. Fiora is another good one.
