You know the sad thing is that I read Esther's journal after she gave it to me just to see if it answered any of the various questions I have about her. It didn't and I wasted my time. I don't mind The Ruin. In fact, I kinda like it because of all the enemies that rush you. I ran around the surface for a long time just to see what was up there, then dug down and enjoyed it more.

It reminded me that I actually missed the tentacle biomes from three years ago. I haven't seen one at all outside of The Ruin so I assume(d) the tentacle planets and their music got removed. I liked the boss fight, too.

Just found a stray cat that resembles the ship cat in a random challenge portal.

Weakened it with bullets and caught it with a capture pod

Man, imagine if they did something interesting with the whole personal ship mechanic.

This stupid story is getting in the way of everything, they should have had the game start with you crashed on a planet and stuck using what was left of your ship as a temporary shelter so the transition from "starting out" to "exploring planets" was more natural. As you explore the planet and listen to your on-board AI, you'd fix your ship and take your temporary home to the stars and already have it outfitted with storage and crafting tables and whatnot.

Then make a whole progression system about how you go to / from planets. Early on you're landing your small, shuttle sized ship, then when you're ship gets bigger and not very atmospheric friendly, you upgrade to personal drop pods with a SSTO engine, so you always have to return to your entry vehicle to leave. Then once you get far enough up the tech tree, now you can teleport up and down (and maybe select your landing zone), and eventually get weaponized drop ships that can provide air support and follow you around the planet, or act as a short range teleportion relay so you can travel planets quickly.

It's easier to do in Starbound if you actually have a server for it. But the servers suck right now so that'll be a bit of a wait still. Starbound has a lot to it for roleplaying, not as much as it could but with racial diversity, "lore" in the form of codexes and a variety of planets you have room to work with on top of your house and ship. Yeah, what they've done is left in a ton of the past hostility as past events, on top of the Hylotl almost being wiped out. You can find a few past tales of human hostilities with other races, and same for the Avians. But in the present, races are generally at peace, so all hostilities come from outlaws, cultists and other factions that either get referenced in the missions or get referenced and take part in missions. Or their hostile faction landmarks.

It's still gutted, but it could also have been worse. At least the references are still there.

I had some trouble with Big Ape the first time because my brain couldn't comprehend that you could touch him and that the turrets are the only things that deal contact damage. He wasn't very hard though, that was just me being complete shit.

I had a lot of trouble dodging Bone Dragon's fireballs for whatever reason, I legitimately ate like 80% of them and healed the entire time.

Ruin did have a fuckton of health but I had an Electric Swarm staff and that took out decent chunks of its health every time. The eye beam is telegraphed so there's no way you're getting hit by it unless you're trying to. The tentacles caught me off-guard but they don't hurt that bad. The enemies it spawned were way more menacing than it was.

And which trees are the objective best for farming? I know some drop logs and fibre, I know some only drop giant petals, some just drop eyeballs..some drop striped wood and alien fruit. Alien tree farming didn't seem to give as many pixels as I'd like, although each tree would drop 3-4 fruits each, but each fruit still isnt worth that much...and no stacking kinda sucks.

I haven't actually been trying to make pixels, but I've been at 70k for a while even after buying a vehicle. Which just came from selling the excess food I had in my storage before redesigning my ship, quest pixels, colony tenants and enemy pixel drops.

The issue is there's nothing to actually spend pixels on in large quantities because the most you can really spend is from pixel printing stuff. I guess if you buy ship licenses, that'd be an expense but I fully upgraded my ship with crew members.

Instead of nerfing pixel gain exploits, they should add more pixel sinks.

I just mined all the Durasteel I needed, or found some in quest reward bags or crates in settlements. Everything on my ship's fully upgraded, so all I could really do if I wanted to spend my pixels now is buy solarium I don't need since I have my armour. Still bothers me I can only craft Solarium armour and not upgrade an Aegisalt/Violum/Ferozium weapon with Solarium, too.

They really shouldn't have reduced all the blocks to 0 pixels, they could have just handled it in a different way. But at this point I'm just hoping they're going to come up with something that actually makes use of the currency outside of building new colonies and using the pixel printer to get all the racial gear. That said, I've still yet to find an Avian airship, so maybe their guns are "expensive" enough. None of the merchant tenants I got in my main colony had anything I could sink a ton of pixels into, either.
