I never bought into the "Max is Rachel" theory. Even when Chloe said they could wear the same clothes it's clear that Rachel has a different face and body than Max.

Even then it's a long shot. Jefferson had Nathan's phone by the time of the party and there was probably an hour or two before David got together the group of police officers to raid the Dark Room. Plus Chloe says nothing about Nathan turning out to have survived when Max wakes up in the new timeline on the beach. Out of all the characters (aside from Kate and Frank if they already died) Nathan has the lowest probability of survival in the bae ending.

I'm not saying it's definitive proof, but because small changes result in more changes (The real butterfly effect) then Max and Chloe not going to the junkyard may have meant Nathan either died sooner or survived.

Just the fact that the storm is the first thing we see in the game, before Max makes any changes that supposedly cause it, is setting things up to be a lot more interesting than they really were.
I thought the nightmare was good, but went on for too long. The part with the stealth scene and the hallways didn't add anything and could have been omitted. But the scenes with Max in the snowblobe, watching Chloe flirt in the Dark Room, the diner scene, and the final walk up to the lighthouse showing how close she and Chloe are were all adding onto Max's development and the final realization that she loves, wants, and needs Chloe.

As for Chloe "dying constantly", I still don't see it. She dies twice in the game (Without optional deaths included), so does Kate, so does William. The character with the most deaths is Max when you consider how many times the player will have to rewind unless they have quick reflexes or guess things correctly in the Dark Room.

How the hell is that even going to work? Choice based games won't lend well to a series. Unless it's like those old CYOA YouTube videos or FMV games where it's just scenes and the player makes choices that determine which one plays next. But then that's pretty much the game already.
They better not just do something where they pick one set of options from the game and say "This is our story" and recreate it, especially if it's the bullshit Bay ending. The only potential here is that they expand upon some stuff like Nathan and Jefferson, or show what happened to those in the town after the storm.
But I still don't like the idea of live action. All the cosplays I've seen of the characters fail to capture their personality or looks.

That's what I'm hoping, that it's still choice based and isn't just a retelling of one set of choices.
It gives a good opportunity to give more closure, or at least an idea, of what happens to the side characters.
But keep in kind that it doesn't make it canon. There can be different interpretations of source material and one does not need to overwrite the other. LiS has no canon ending or choices and that will not change. It is still fully up the player to see the story how they want and decide what happens to each character if their fates are left vague.

I just finished playing this last night. The writing overall is extremely half-baked and riddled with unaddressed plot holes and awful dialogue. The nominal gameplay elements of the interactive story are shallow albeit fairly original in execution. The concluding episode was the logical trainwreck that almost all time manipulation narratives wind up at, and the Bay ending was a pretty lame attempt at tying the disparate story elements together with a unifying theme of coming of age and learning to make peace with the past, present, and future as it is; learning to make peace with the tragic outcomes inherent in life without burning yourself out fighting the inevitability and absoluteness of the passage of time.

Now, can someone explain to me why this is the most profoundly moving experience I've ever had with a video game and why, despite its flaws its still a more satisfying gaming experience than pretty much anything released.. ever?

I think it's mainly the fact that no video game's really told a story like this before, at least not with such good production value (even if it is PS2 teir, but the art direction makes up for it). So not only is it a novelty, but it allows us to experience a classic story/setting with unrivalled immersion. Especially with the game's liberal usage of pop culture references, like invoking Twin Peaks for portions of the plot.

The experience itself is emphasised beyond anything we've known, even if the content itself is sub-par. Sort of like how the first film reel was simply footage of a train leaving a station, but it was so foreign to the viewers that they jumped away from the screen in fear of being mowed down. That doesn't mean it's history's most brilliant horror movie, it was more just at the right place at the right time.

The experience is further emphasised by the overall lack of actual content. The characters are fairly simple, but create an illusion of complexity by initially presenting as cardboard cliches only to reveal themselves as much more human, so they feel much more complex by comparison to their first impression. From here, very sparing detail is added, but we've been primed to hunt for it, so we start to make it up on our own. This isn't necessarily a dig at the writing being lackluster either, for a long time I thought it was intentional and that it was brilliant. What better way to milk an interactive medium for all it's worth than to play with players' perceptions and entice them to think critically, to play with their perceptions and then see how it impacts the choices they make?

It could have been fucking brilliant if they'd continued this through to episode 5 instead of lazily force feeding us their shitty, tired sci-fi and using it to literally destroy the setting and characters we loved. But it seems like they stumbled into brilliance by accident and simply had no idea how they got there or what to do with it.

Played through this game for the third time now, spending as much time as possible on each playthrough. This is the first thing that made me feel anything in years really and now it's gone, and considering that I know many dialogues by heart the feelings won't be back.

I've stopped being angry at the endings. Or at least to the point I go on rants about how crap they were. I've made as much peace as I can with them.

Kate has a decent amount of depth for a side character but only a few lines. I overlooked it at first until I started seeing Katefriends discussing her.
One thing the game did very well was using the surroundings and objects to tell you who the characters are and what kind of problems they've having.
